Hello thanks for this video that's very helpful I have a question ❓
I have the same motor with 9 lead but my source it's 380 volts so what is the best connection thanks

Thank you! A LONG time ago (40 yrs ago) I was a 4th yr apprentice. I recently bought a motor and VFD for my shop. For the life of me I could not remember how to do this! If only my instructors back then had taught like this.

Thanks for the video! I have basic knowledge and trying to get my 3phase lathe connected to a vfd. My 9wire motor low voltage setting is wye like this one. My question is about 4,5,6. After wiring L1,L2,L3, do I just leave 4,5,6 capped together inside ? Also if the motor has no ground would it be acceptable to wire my own ground to the chassis?

Hello, I have a 3 phase 9 lead dual voltage 230/460 motor... I watch your video and wired it for low voltage. my question is I only have single phase supply.. can i run this motor on 2 hot and a neutral. and if the answer is yes which one of the lines do i connect the neutral. L1,L2.or L3

I have a wye motor with 9 leads but I need a delta connection. The motor is 5 HP but is to be wired to a rotary converter and I will pull only 2HP out of it for a surface grinder. Since 3 coils are connected at one end internally in the motor I was thinking I will leave these 3 coils unconnected. Using your diagram I will connect 1-6 ,2-4, 3-5 forming a delta and not use the other 3 coils. Since I'm using only one set of coils of the two I can put in parallel for low voltage connection I will not be able to pull 5HP equivalent since the impedance of a single coil is half as opposed to two coils. This means the maximum current in the single coil at the same applied voltage will be half of the two coils in parallel and the total power will be 1/4 of 5HP. I can also pull a second low voltage 3 phase out of the star connection since the stator will work as a transformer as the motor spins. Does anybody see an issue with the logic above?

How does a guy learn to crawl at retirement age? By-passing a load? Jumping points of connections? Hmm, just when I thought I had the ball understood, somebody dug up the goal post. Seriously though, this info is a much help for basic understanding I had yet to learn. Thanks.

I see a lot of dual voltage rated motors that are 230/460V. But I only have 208V or 480V available to run. So what am I supposed to do? Run the circuit through a general purpose xfmr?

What you call a phantom connection. Wouldn't you consider that the 0V or ground as a further visual of what's being connected across the windings.

What could happen if I connect low voltage (230V) to a single wye (high voltage configuration) ?

Youll get more resistance so youll have less power

Not 100% accurate for the low voltage explanation because you aren’t connecting the 4/5/6 connection and the 10/11/12. It is actually 2 windings in parallel with 2 windings. Not each winding paralleled. But good enough for the beginner.

Damn. I just Failed my Pepsi-Gatorade Interview Hands-On Test. This was the first Test of the Interview... wiring up WYE motor. I've wired up Delta motors, but Not WYE... +PLUS+ On my previous Job experiences: they were always clearly labeled on the wiring diagram on the motor: L1, T1, L2, T2, .. T4, T5, etc... On the wiring diagram on the Test, they were Labeled 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, ... etc. there was NO letter behind the number. So it threw me off... Wired it wrong. Failed the Test. :/ 🤐😑😒😵🤬 F------ Sucks !!
