Honda SA seriously need to have a rethink about their product pricing, in my family we've owned about 10 Honda's to date of which I've owned 6, but we've never bought one new simply because they've been overpriced. R1mil+ for a CR-V is insanity! Surely, this means the end of the CR-V in SA.
For R1m one would expect something like a 2l diesel, AWD and ideally an 8-speed ZF gearbox. These would add greatly to durability and usability. I have been a lifelong Honda fan, and we still have three in the family. My daily drive is a 2010 CRV 2.2 D-Tec auto Exec with AWD, now on 170k kms, and it still feels like it rolled off the assembly line perhaps 2-3 years ago. I would not trade it for this modern rendition, not even a straight swop! Sadly, I think Honda has lost the plot... The Chinese brands will beat them hands down.
@@felixjohansmitagreed. I've test driven the 2.5L CX-60. It is on par with Germans in terms of build and materials, as well as driving experience👏. The CRVs pricing is a joke. Honda SA will have to drop the price eventually or dealers will have to give massive discounts to get them off the floor😅
Here are some cars you can get for around the same money as this: Kia Sorento Hyundai Palisade Ford Everest Mazda CX60 Volkswagen Tiguan R Ranger Raptor for only R100k more. All of which blow the Honda out of the water in terms of luxury, performance or size. What are Honda thinking?
I have a 2006 CRV. Reliable, comfortable, full leather, sunroof, a lot of pack space, all wheel drive, a built in table, speedo cruise and more...... and it's a 9th of the price. A million rand for a car in this segment is mental
Leasing or minimum deposit and 7 years payback to get the monthly premiums as low as possible. If you really need a car and don't care about it being new, Woodford does great long term rentals, with insurance and everything included. A Kia Picanto is R5k a month, with a R4k refundable deposit and 3000kms per month standard.
My exact comment, who are they making these cars for? I'm probably living in a different South Africa. I earn a decent living but there is no way I can dream about buying a brand sizeable family car brand new car in this economy.
In Canada, it's one of the top-selling vehicles, and the CVT Sport model is the equivalent of R655 860 (including tax, excluding all the aftermarket add-ons). It's as interesting as a pair of brown socks though...
Once upon a time, top of the Range Rover Sport, C63 AMGs would cost between R700k-R1million. Everything about the Honda CRV defines how Honda has evolved. However, it may not be premium to justify the price tag... At that price tag there are other bigger and better options like the Fortuner and Everest. On the other hand when one compares like for like, the Chinese and Korean alternatives offer premium and affordable options. We wait to see the reliability of the revamped Chinese offerings.
I'm AFFRAID this PRICE makes ABSOLUTELY ZERO ZERO ZERO SENSE 😳😱😵🤢 THIS IS NUTS ⚙️🤕💀 This car at this price, with a baby 👶 engine, at best AVERAGE interior & exterior ?? Have no words even 😑 Cut 45% plus off the price at LEAST, & this Honda can at least start competing slightly 🤔 GREAT review 💫👍👌✨
Might thoughts too. I have a first gen CRV, but a mil rands isn't it. At that point there's a lot of more capable SUV. The only thing this brings is comfortable & fuel economy to be honest

Most of the models and brands mentioned in the video from competitors are 5 seaters, so you cant compare pricing. In my opinion the only brand that can compare to Honda is Toyota, in terms of reliability, service and maintenance costs in the long run. This is a car like a toyota that you can keep long after the maintenance plan has run out. You cant say that about a BMW , Audi or VW, unless you are loaded and can afford the costs. But please, in future compare apples to apples, 3rd row seating also adds to the price. The comfortable you are, the more you pay.
Does ANYONE use the 7 seater function? I've had a 7 seater for 3 years now and never once used the third row because you have no luggage space if you do. FYI I'd buy a ScoropioN for 400 000 less
Nah, Mazda is just as reliable, way more luxurious, better spec'd, better engine, better maintenance/warranty, and drives as well as looking far better than this. Unless you need the third row, this is ridiculous pricing, and even then, you could go for a Tiguan All-Space at a much cheaper price.
I truly believe in a honda car. We've had a civic from 2007 and it's still in good condition. However there's no way I'm paying a million for one. Are these people okay????😂 It's a Honda!
Honda is just doing what everyone is going to do when their new models come. All the competitors seem to be close to a million, so it's logical to conclude that the next models of the competitors will be a million.
With the ZAR to TTD conversion, this would be close to the price that we'd pay in Trinidad and Tobago. You can get a slightly used car from Japan for that price here.
Yeah they've lost the plot over the last 5 years or so. The only enjoyable Honda is the Civic, the rest are uninspiring at best. At this sort of money, my choice would be Mazda/Audi/BMW/VW. If you are willing go with branded dealer approved used cars, then you can get some amazing deals here, not sure if this is the case over in Ireland?
Honestly I'll just stick to the 2nd hand market. New car prices are just crazy. I'd probably just look at a previous gen CRV that's been well maintained.
The ZAR is worthless. All the new models that come out are going to be much more expensive than their predecessor. Honda generally lasts much longer than the german and korean brands without any trouble. The Mazda CX-60 is a great buy or if you need a more practical and capable vehicle the Subaru Outback 2.4XT.
"Listen to that English baba!" 😂😂 Nice one J. I'd choose the AWD Tiggo 8 Pro Max over this Honda. Bigger engine (more power), better drivetrain, better tech, for over R200k less.
Such a good looking SUV man. Really unfortunate that Honda priced this so high. Perhaps if it had the TypeR FL5 engine with AWD, it would've made better sense at this price point. Man this is so sad. Honda y'all gonna have to Hold this L.
I’m still gonna buy this car reason lies with reliability. I’ve owned a couple of bmw and owned a 1990 Honda ballade vtec. I’ve never ever had a problem with maintenance of that car. I’m planning on buying the latest type r.
I would probably go for HONDA CRV, reliability counts and its stylish. Its a car that turns people's heads, cause its not a car that you'd see everyday. The dignity it comes with outshine you into the public.
Insane price. They're basically taxing people for the thrid row, because there know previous CRV buyers who loved and trusted previous versions might fork our extra for that third row now - but that's already a small segment they have limited themselves to. The options are too many now, this price makes zero sense.
Nothing is premium inside, even if you change the badge, people will still notice that it's just a normal car. Chinese cars like Chery on the other hand, you might pull that off
Excellent overview. Agree about the price, but only a crazy person would take cruise control off the steering wheel and put it in a place where you would need to take your eyes off the road to find. 😂 You must be a VW infotainment engineer 5:50
