If those filters aren't made on the same production line, they are made on production lines in the same factory.
Yep, It sure does look like it.
In 1958 Cummins started Fleetguard as their filtration company. Cummins filters had an excellent reputation as a filtration manufacturer, but most only purchased Cummins filters for their Cummins engine. Cummins filters were spun off into Fleetguard so end users would use their filters on multiple manufacturers.
Both are great filters. I have installed many of those Fleetguard over the year.
Thanks for all that you do.
Thank Jason, and
Thanks for your feedback👍
Your videos are great! This is so much better than listening to people duke it out on Facebook with their opinions on which filters are better. The proof is in the pudding, and you brought the spoon.
Thank You👍
I worked at a Dodge dealership, the Mopar filter is just a rebranded fleetguard. As fleetguard is the brand Cummins recommends for all their diesel engines
It definitely looks like it.
Thanks for your feedback.👍
I would definitely say the same filter but for the small cost savings definitely go for the fleet guard. Great video whip. 👍🇨🇦
Thank You 404😊
Cummins Fleetguard makes the Mopar filter for the Cummins engine.
I worked in a high production metal stamping plant and we punched out the oil filter plates at one end with Minster hydraulic presses ( progressive dies) and tapped the plates in the front of the shop. We were thr main supplier for Wix, Fleetguard, Purolater, Donaldson, Fram and NASA Aerospace. Worked there for almost 25 yrs.
Thanks for sharing!
Are there any difference?
Just like Twin Sisters -- In the dark, ya can't tell 'em apart !!
20 years ago, I toured a Fleetguard factory in northern Iowa. Fleetguard manufactures filter for many OEM applications. Many of the filters are the same, just painted different colors.
Thanks for sharing👍
Same date code format, same Hecho en Mexico, same filters. No adbv and no bypass. Going to guess, they are oriented vertical base end up. Need a coil compression spring with these to hold the large heavy element in place. Thanks for video.
It is common knowledge these are the same filter with different paint job.
@@walterk1221 Thanks for the tip. Because of this video a bit more common knowledge now.
Mopar is a fleetguard it's made and same cummins factory just painted with mopar label and mopar charges more by the fleetguard brand plus fleetguard offers a synthetic media version that has better efficiency at 20 microns and traps more dirt with better Flow rate.
Great video. The interwebs has been repeating that fleetguard and mopar filters are identical for nearly two decades... So it's nice to see the internet was right and telling the truth for once ;) Thanks!
Thank You😊 and
You're Welcome👍
Very informative, thanks for the video. I’ve always used the Mopar filter cause I pass an advance auto on my way home from work and I can just jump in and grab one lol.
You're Welcome, Jason!
Thanks!👍
I use The Amsoil filter even though It has only five holes there is less restricted because the oem filter only has .050 gap between inlet and top of fliter where the Amsoil has almost a half inch gap allowing five times more flowrate and less bypassing when oil gets loaded with soot.
Its funny that there is so much interest in determining which of the filters that dont clean oil is the best.
I saved a little money with Fleetguard looks like same quality good video
Thank You!
Great video man. Thank you
You're Welcome!
Thanks👍
Great video ! Just what i was looking for !!!
i'll Bet the Mopar Filter is Thicker & Heavier From the Paint !
Mopar is a " Painted over Fleet guard "
ill bet !
Makes sense.
Thank You👍
I'm not sure about the paint though😊
► Oil Filter Friday, watch a New Automotive oil filter inspection video every Friday on this UA-cam Channel.
The paint and logo makes me feel cozy inside.
Many years ago I bought Cummins Fleetguard 750s and 500s from a International truck dealer. They came with filter cartridges packed with pulverized newspapers and wood chips. O Reilly's had Wix cartridges for them that were the same. Im told they are getting expensive. The big 10 quart Gulf Coast filter is rated at 99 percent at under 1 micron. They used Bounty big roll paper towels in the 90s. Dont know what they use now. TA truck stops serviced them.
When the Cummins (NOT CumminGs) first came out in the Dodge trucks in '88 ('89 Model year) they were RIPPING THE GUTS out of aftermarket oil filters.
After warrantying a few engines Cummints went: " why the #@// are these engines going bad in a lil' 'ol pick up and NOT in buses and equipment when being used at higher power outputs and heavier application?!?!?
After investigating it further they quit warrantying engines with non MOPAR/Fleetguard filters.
If possible, like to see you cut open one of these filters. Its also a fleetguard filter #LF9027. It's supposed to be a like dual filter, you cant even see to other end inside because it has some kind of plastic cone looking thing that gets narrower as it goes in. This filter is one I've used in the past for my 7.3 powerstroke.
I put it on my to-do list.
@@WhipCityWrencher Good deal, thanx!!
Also topic filters do not have an ADBV due to vertical mounting, or a BPV(internal block) like alot of GM engines. Just don't tip them when removing or you will lose far more oil.
I have always wondered for these the difference between the Black colored fram wearguard hd vs extra guard orange 10K filters. They don't have an Ultra. We use alot of Wix for the topic filter. Wix does not show the micron ratings for these or the XP anymore. Used to show 21 and 35 at 99% respectively.
Thanks for the feedback👍
If I'm interpreting correctly the "universal" pictographs(2:36) on the side of the filter the manufacturers are instructing the installer to prefill the filter can before installation. Does this put to rest all the youtube commenter "authorities" claiming that you're never supposed to prefill the filters? That supposed "rule/rationale" never made sense to me. I've always prefilled my new filters.
I think so.
I'm one of the UA-camrs who fills his oil filter before installation.
Check it out. 7:53 on this video link.ua-cam.com/video/jiJy2XxIstU/v-deo.html&ab_channel=WhipCityWrencher
Actually, the pictograph shows lubing the seal.
@@timothyball3144 actually, I believe it shows both lubing the seal and prefilling the housing. There are two pictures. If they both meant lubing the seal, that would be redundant.
I could be saving money just switching to FleetGuard! Same damn filter lol. Thanks for doing this one! Can you do the Wix 51790 filter vs FleetGuard hahaha it’s for my Big Cam Cummins, 855ci diesel! She is a beast, and it shows when you put almost 13gallons of oil in her 😅
I'll put it on my to-do list, but it will be a while.
Thanks for your feedback.👍
@@WhipCityWrencher thanks and be safe out there Whip!
strange how both filters weigh the same until you start dissecting them ? both are basically the same ! i would go with the fleetgaurd and save $4
It is common knowledge these are the same filters with different paint.
@@walterk1221 like alot of filters ! Pretty soon all filters will be made by mann/hummel !
@@scottymoondogjakubin4766 I doubt Cummins will sell Cummins Filtration any time soon. M&H ruined Wix...
dont 4get delivery cost
@@ivanmitchell3876 i just ordered a case of fram ultra synthetic oil filters from amazon - free shipping and saved $ 75 compared to what o'riellys or auto zone charges
Good Filters
Made in USA is the Best of the Best
I think fleetgaurd is better than Mopar. The balwin in number 2 then the cat is number 1
great video,thank you sir.
You're Welcome!👍
Glad you liked it.😊
Another great video! Folks could save a few bucks with the fleetguard. They look like twins separated at birth.
LOL,
Thanks👍
I like big cans . 🙂🙂👍
Good review and video. Merri :)
Thank You Merri😊
Can you do one on the Fleetguard LF16035 vs. the Mopar LF5083285AA? I know it is essentially the same, but they are very common filters in the '19+ RAM 6.7 Cummins.
I'll put it on my to-do list.
You should compare these filters to the O’Reillys Microguard Select filter Part# MSL57620 , I just used it on my 12V Cummins and wonder how it compares to OEM and Fleet Gaurd! And great videos by the way!
Thanks,
I'll try and get it in sometime soon.
Same filter. Edge to coastguard, price
wondering about the mopar filter (MO-285), it says on the packaging that it has a anti-drain-back valve I couldn't see that in your video? Did I miss something?
No, you didn't miss anything there is no anti-drain back valve on these two filters. They're not needed because these filters are mounted vertically on the engines that these go to.
As far as the box goes I've found lots of illustrations on boxes that were wrong.
Hey, thanks for your reply. I have this problem on our three RAM trucks (6.7L) that the filter drains back or siphons about half way into the engine sump and every cold start it pushes an air bubble through system and I can hear valve train noises, a ticking for about 15-40 secs depending on outside temperature. I really like to have a drain-back-valve on those filters to prevent that from happening. I talked to a cummins engine rebuilder he said, yep, that's what they do. I'm surprise that Chrysler puts that on the package when it doesn't have one!?! I can read many comment on the web about ticking noises on the cummins on start up and people are wondering where it's coming from.
@@olliethecollie6874 You might want to try out another brand. I think the Baldwin filter for your truck has an anti-drain back valve.
Wonder how they compare to a Wix or Napa Gold?
Thanks for the suggestion.
I put it on my to-do list.
NAPA Gold are Wix filters.
Thanks for the video
Your Welcome! 😊
You have my attention 😂
Have you ever cut open an Amsoil bypass filter, such as the Eabp90. 100, or 120?
No, I haven't
@@WhipCityWrencher If I send you one will you cut it open? I could do it myself, but this way several thousand viewers can enjoy.
@@Colorado_Native Sure, I could make a video out of one.
Send me an email and I'll give you my address.

You want "Full Oil Filtration"?? Get a by pass system.
Hi Ken,
Those are Nice but not everyone is going to install one.
These are bigger then my diesel filter and vastly cheaper then mine!
Yep, these are made for some big diesel engines.
Twinsies of a different color made by the same mother....basically clones made by the same supplier.....similar to what GM& Allison transmission & AC Delco with their external transmission oil filter, the only difference is the red can vs a blue can ....& a lower price for a Allison
Thanks for sharing👍
Retail store markup I guess.
👍👍👍
Look at the size of these guys

Notice that both of these oil filters DO NOT have Stickers -- and they're both HECHO EN MEXICO.
U.S.A.-made oil filters have the Stickers -- to help preserve our environment.
I'm curious, why are the printed ones that much worse for the environment? The cans are painted anyhow that much more extra paint isn't going to amount to much.
@@WhipCityWrencher Notice that the oil filters are PAINTED, while the logos on the filters are PRINTED -- it's the PRINTING that damages our environment, according to the chemists that make these decisions.
We've been making environmentally-friendly PAINT for decades, and the INK that printers use is finally catching up.
I know this because of 25 years in Catalog Printing, several years in Paint manufacturing, and interacting with the EPA on environmental issues while in the Printing trade.
@@SlikLizrd Thanks for the information,👍
if that's the case then I would hope they all use environmentally friendly paint as ink.
I'm guessing the good stuff is some kind of latex paint.
@@WhipCityWrencher You're all-ways welcome, Whip !!
When companies make changes to their products, such as Oil and Oil Filters, they don't always tell us consumers what they changed and why they changed it, so we're left to figure it out for ourselves.
This is NOT COOL, because we're not engineers or chemists, and we tend to over-simplify to make up for our lack of knowledge of the subject.
Our first instinct is to whack the manufacturers because "they cheaped out!", "we got cheated!", or "all they care about is the bottom line!" -- but when we track down the actual facts, we find that changes often made a better product for reasons we weren't aware of.
Unfortunately, we tend to ignore environmental considerations for really stupid reasons -- because we ain't too smart when it comes to preserving our air and water for our children and THEIR children.
@@SlikLizrd 👍
Do you people realize there's only a couple of companies that make all the oil filters and air filters and the other companies buy them by the pound.
Fleetguard (aka Cummins Filtration) is one such company and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Cummins Engine Company (unlike Cat which is a "partnership" between Baldwin and Cat).
The MOPAR filter is not original. You can see it from a fncy QR code on a side. Chrysler dont do that.
First!
👍😊
Why do these filters do not have a bypass valve?
@@richardnalbandian9572 These oil filters are meant to go on engines that have their own bypass valves.
Thanks for asking!
