*SPOILERS* I have a long and honestly embarrassing, but amusing tale about this mode to share. tl;dr: When I first played through this mode, I SOMEHOW MISSED Moss in Blossoming Arcadia until I found her on Day 8! In doing so I accidentally did a Pikmin 1 Purist run as much as possible. I am a very stubborn Pikmin player (Pikmin 1&3 enjoyer lol), I like to 100% an area first before I move onto the next one, so I didn't even go to Blossoming Arcadia until Day 12. There are 7 parts in Sun-Speckled Terrace and I managed to get 6/7 parts. 5 of the parts you can get without Moss, but I didn't know this at the time, I thought because this was intended to be like Pikmin 1, there wasn't going to be Oatchi/Moss (I eventually remembered that I forgot that Olimar is supposed to meet Moss in this mode at some point). So I unlocked and got 1 Bomb Rock as the bonus on Day 13. I was ecstatic 'cause I could open up one of the jar-blocked paths at the bottom with a bomb rock. I opened that path and got my 6th part. I found out the 7th part near Base 2 was also blocked by jars and I couldn't find another bomb rock. I had to leave that 1 part behind and regrettably go to Blossoming Arcadia, thus having to waste a future day to get that one part later on. Coming to Blossoming Arcadia, I did all the building, moving around, part gathering. I spent 2 days here. There are 8 parts in Blossoming Arcadia. I managed to get 5/8 parts. 2 are perched on a cliff that seemingly you can only reach with Oatchi/Moss with the Baldy Long Legs part and the part guarded behind it. And finally the one blocked by the stone wall and Pyroclasmic Slooches. Once again I'm stuck and went on to Serene Shores. I STILL somehow missed Moss even while I was looking around the map. Now we're Day 10 on Serene Shores without Moss. There are 8 parts. I spent 2 days here. I managed to get 7/8 parts. 7 parts you can get without Moss/Bomb Rocks. The last part (Bowsprit) on top of some coral with the deep pool of water is impossible to get without Ice Pikmin/Moss's swimming ability. At this point, I thought it was highly suspicious that I didn't have Moss and couldn't find her at this point. So now we're on Day 8, and I'm thinking I didn't see Moss in Sun-Speckled Terrace, so if Nintendo is giving us the doggo, it must be in Blossoming Arcadia! I carefully survey the landscape and see the freaking doggo in the ONLY LOCATION WHERE I DIDN'T BOTHER TO CHECK in this region. It was at that moment, I felt so...dumb. But honestly I wasn't upset about it at all. Now that my third eye has opened and a new world has been shown to me, I quickly race to finish the rest of Blossoming Arcadia and finish Day 8 with a bang! Day 7, I go back to Sun-Speckled Terrace and get the last 7th part hidden by the breakable jars with Moss and basically waste the day. Day 6, I go back to Serene Shrones and get the last 8th part on top of the coral with Moss and basically waste that day. Day 5, now with 23 parts, I can finally go to Hero's Hideaway and reenact the Tutorial again but for real. After that setup is done, the game then puts me at 25% of the day gone, so I'm like "oh shit." and get try to get base 2 asap. The days end with me only getting the Interstellar Radio for 24 parts. Day 4, I activate my Dandori skills and finish Hero's Hideaway in 1 day. Thus finishing Olimar's Shipwrecked Tale. And that concludes my tale of shame, but outright funny series of events that occurred. I somehow accidentally/unintentionally did a Pikmin 1 purist run as much as I possibly could.
A friend of mine has been steaming the game on Twitch (ShortHop Custom), and he literally had his entire party killed by 1 exploding dweeble in one of the regular caves. And he has been playing Pikmin since the original! He marathoned the first 3 games just before 4 released as well!
To note for the Trial of the Leaf - your Oatchi upgrades carry over. So a massive mega rush or two + most reds was strong enough to bring down the Bulbear, with the initial charge taking out the kids. Then bomb rock the ice and charge the rest, and ignore the ice wall for easy platinum. I've managed to plat the first four missions, and I've beaten the rest, and yeah - it's REAL challenging, but some of the challenge is needing upgrades to Oatchi.
There were only two parts of this game that i had to repeat. One was a late game night expedition. The other was the 10th story of the sage trials. Both took me several attempts each.
@@NinjarioPicmin Yeah. I bronzed most of them. I think I silvered one or two. I'll grind out the platinums at some point, but at the time I was just happy to get the, reward at the end... I don't want to spoil it
@@Xeroisawesome oh sure thing, but just even making all of them first try is kinda insane to me. The main story dandori stuff was pretty easy, most of them I could even platinum first try and those that I only got gold only took me one more try to platinum. But these challenges? Phew, I think I only got 2 of them first try, every other one I failed first try and some I had to do like over 3 times to even complete in the first place. Haven't replayed any of them after I initially managed to beat them once, but so far I still only have 6 bronze, 3 silver, 1 gold and platinum for some of these seems like witchcraft (though admittedly some of them I just missed the next medal by like one or two seconds
@@Mlaeaos I didn't play on English so I'm not 100% what the Sage trials is, but if what we were talking about, if that is the sage trials yeah not only do you get checkpoints but once you unlock any sublevel you can replay any sublevel you want
I haven’t finished my 100% playthrough yet, but I finished the shipwreck tale today and honestly it might some of my favorite pikmin content ever. Every time I think pikmin 4 can’t get better it proves me wrong. I love this game so much.
Olimar days are actually even shorter than the original Pikmin 4 have a 15 min time per day The other 3 games are 13 minutes And Olimar have 11 minutes, making this even more crunch time
If you're having a hard time with these, it's because they are pretty much designed around you having all or at least most of both you and Oatchi's upgrades, after that they are really easy to beat, but a bit hard to platinum.
The final Dandori cave was something else... that was HARD I was just barely able to do it and I'm very meticulous with my Pikmin playing. There were two different occasions where I just barely made it literally at the last second. Literally the timer was 00:00 when I got the Purple Onion.
I work so much and don't have enough time to play pikmin 4! It makes me so sad! I asked my boss if I could take a vacation and they asked why, and so I told them: 1. I work hard. 2. Pikmin 4 came out. They laughed, but I think I got on their good side, as they proceeded to look pikmin 4 up and fell in love with them. Wish me the best!
The thing is that you're rewarded big time for these difficult challenges as beating the 5th Sage Leaf Trial gives you a White Onion to propagate White Pikmin and the last one is the Purple Onion. Bigtime worth it as they're broken to be able to propagate.
@@axc0mmt It's not that hard to grind purple pikmin in this game though. Engulfed Castle gives 10 free purples and an egg full of mittites on repeat visits, and you can warp straight to any floor. So enter, go to sublevel 5, change 10 blues to purples, then crush the egg with a purple to kill all the mittites as they spawn. And repeat until you have enough.
I loved Olimar's Shipwreck Story. The only thing I would change is where you find Moss. I didn't find him until 5 days left, and I barely completed the side mode in time.
SPOILERS: My favorite cave in the game has gotta be the remake of submerged castle from pikmin 2, the englufed castle. So much of the game has been inspired by 2 and I love it so much for that.
The fact they essentially crammed a minature remake of Pikmin 1 into the game using preexisting assets is kinda awesome. Managed 11 days on my only blind attempt, which I know could be better. I'd say newcomers might struggle a bit with doing it efficently, but old hands will find it a pleasant distraction. Worth it's own speedrunning category easy, the runs are already down to 1 day per area each gor a 4 day completion.
The best part about Olimar's Shipwreck Tale is that you can just rewind to day 1 if you feel like a second go. The Trials of Elder Leaf were all super tough, I couldn't get past the second one for a bit, several of them I just barely scraped by with 1 sec left on the clock. It is here where you will find the white and purple onions btw.
Pikmin 4 is actually doing good for old fans and new fans like me, Dandori missions / Olimar shipwreck tales / Leaflings subtly held the traditional Pikmin worldview overall, while P4 had so much advancement / changes over previous games making the difficulty seems too easy for veteran and easy to pick up for newcomers
I actually found the main game WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY harder then olimars shipwreck story i breezed trough the olimar thing with 6 days left on the clock. but the main game well i found it like pikmin 2 difficulty which im really good at pikmin 1 but i just suck at 2. probably because i wanna go fast. olimars shipwreck tale is still probably my favorite part of the game absolutely amazing. things that recked me in pikmin 4: engulfed castle of course i do not perform well under stress. (im not under stress in pikmin 1 because ill just beat it in 12 days out of 30) groovy longlegs i thought i could just call my pikmin out of dancing mode. which i could not so they all got stomped on and i refuse to rewind. man at legs in the final cave is probably the hardest boss pikmin has ever seen. the final boss also screwed me over the first time. also i was expecting the smoky progg to be difficult but he was a pushover which sucked i don't like not getting recked by smoky progg.
Getting platinum on all the stories of the white leaf is a lot of fun! Especially story 7 was such a difficult challenge to get platinum lol I really enjoyed getting platinum on story 10 and especially story 5, probably one of my favorite parts of the game!
10 was really easy to platinum for me, just have Oatchi swallow the Purple Onion and no amount of being rolled over by the Waterwraith will make him drop it. But yeah they were overall really hard to platinum, I spent a few hours on it.
@@williamhardee8863 Yeah I also did the Oatchi swallow technique lol, once you know what to expect with that level it's pretty easy. Story 5 was a bit more difficult as what I ended up doing is first get the balls furthest away and then the once closer by.
@@t00nbink Yeah Story 5 was really tough, I had to use spicy spray to carry the onion back faster and the sound that plays when you’re about to lose your platinum medal starting playing, but I was able to make it with like a second to spare. One thing I really liked about those 10 challenges was that you really had to speedrun if you wanted a platinum trophy and if there were bombs or spicy spray you usually had to use it. One I really struggled with was the one with the giant Wollyhop because I would always have like 1 or 2 gold nuggets left over.
@@williamhardee8863 oh right, yeah that one was rough. I had to redo that one like 10 times. I remember the first thing I did was get the massive amount of white's in the hallway and throw 3 on a couple of nugget stacks, then start doing the rest of the floor. Really satisfying when you got the flow down
The game overall is way too easy, even the harder battles and Olimar tale. They REALLY need to add a hard mode where enemies are way more aggressive and have more health. That's not difficult at all to implement, especially considering how long this game took to make.
All this feels like it could have been a DLC campaign, but it was a complete secret, and Nintendo included it for free. That's honestly really cool. It reminds me of the feeling of excitement I had as a kid when playing Pokemon gold and found out that you could also play in the Kanto region.
I refused to use rewind unless its a major loss, but even then I rewind the entire day if I am going to. I dont rewind specific times, just the ENTIRE day.
One of my favorite Parts about it is that they limited you to the original Three Pikmin type switchmate even more like Pikmin 1 remastered or something LOL
Plat medal strategy for sage leaf 1 is pretty simple. Aside from little things like setting single pikmin on the mushroom field or rushing the wall down, the big thing is to be efficient about your combat. That means abusing oatchi rush. If your oatchi has good armor and attack upgrades, he can solo anything in that stage, too. You really want the upgraded rush, too, as that gives a stun.
They could've easily made this a €15 DLC campaign and no one would've called them out. The fact that this is just in the game really shows the care Nintendo gave this game
That Pikmin in the back is hilarious and immediately my favorite part of the video before even watching. Like, the video just peaked at the very start.
the sage trials are extremely hard without upgrading gear and oatchi, i don’t think it’s even possible to get platinum on most levels without certain upgrades
Spoilers for the cave of the sage leaf but if you are able to succeed to floors 5 and 10 (there are only 10 floors total for his cave), you get two rewards, and I believe you'll be a fan of the new stuff you obtain. Spoilers afterwards if you wish for a honest reaction to the rewards: As rewards for completing the challenges for floor 5 and 10, you get the onions for purple and white Pikmin, purples being the final to get.
I only ever lost 6 pikmin, 4 yellows to the stupid electric eye hair things because I forgot what they were from previous pikmin, and 2 blues to the water wraith. I don't feel like using rewind unless I lose a ton of pikmin but I used those losses to motivate myself. I wonder what kinds of challenge runs there will be in the future, exploring an oatchi only run or a no oatchi run might be fun
That's how it might seem right now. That's why it would be cool to figure out ways around it. The only main problem I see is dashing through vases, I can see ways around other things but someone would need to put them into practice. Obv you need oatchi in the beginning but after that.
In the sage leaf trial, use oatchi more, he can attack and break down walls, the charge is amazing. Also you should unlock all the tech gear for the pluckaphone because I don't think it's possible to platinum if you have to pluck pikmin manually
Wait until you get to the 7th Story...THAT is where the true difficulty is. Defeat 100 small enemies consisting of Newborn Bulborbs and Fleas that can easily one-shot your Pikmin. And get this: you only get 5 Purple Pikmin, Oatchi and NO items. You have to somehow find a way to herd them all into one central area and stomp them quickly with the Purples, but it is HAAAAAAAAAARD
The post game is absolutely wonderful. One of the best to ever exist, and on par with Pokemon Gold/Silver. Olimar's adventure was particularly fantastic, and I agree. The time limit isn't super strict, but it is relevant. I think people that have played the main campaign should generally be able to succeed on their first attempt, but if somebody were to dive directly into this without having played the main game, they would likely fail. My biggest issue though is that it shines a light on how much upgrades matter. Especially with Oatchi. The Sage Leaf trials were really challenging for me, and often took several tries just to barely squeak by with a bronze medal. It was by far the hardest part of the game. It's 10 stories btw. Once I had all of the upgrades though, it took some work, but I managed to get platinums on all of them. But the big issue is that for these strats, I felt like Oatchi was accomplishing almost as much as all of my Pikmin combined. It's also worth mentioning getting platinums for the dandori battles and challenges were also much easier with a fully upgradet Oatchi. Once I was fully upgraded, I believe all but the final challenge for each I got platinum first attempt. Night missions were similarly easy. It only felt like the final challenge or 2 was balanced around near full upgrades.
The first thing I find to be very hard is The night mode baldy long legs. Your glow pikmin find it very hard to get to the main part. The hardest sage leaf for me was floor 8 (Dandori kitchen). The easiest for me was Gimmick gambit. There are also the normal dandori battles which I NEVER FAILED. The dandori practices I find much harder because you have to beat a score instead of Louie.
For completionists, getting platinum medals in the dandori challenges and battles can be pretty difficult and definitely requires higher knowledge and mastery of the game's mechanics.
Pikmin 4 is actually pretty easy, even the post game stuff isn't hard. Sure, the trials are challenging, but nothing impossible. The guy from the video probably doesn't play games very often and suffers of a thing called "dandori issue." I feel what makes the first game more difficult is the lack of skills that you can use in the game. No zooming in, broken pikmin (aka big bessies and ice pikmin) or oatchi. Although Pikmin 2 had the big bessies, it threw so many challenges at you that it never became a still gameplay. Personally I would say that the hardest thing you can do in the Pikmin franchise is try to conclude Hey Pikmin while getting all the platinum medals in each level (which means finishing with 20 pikmin and not letting anyone die). That is hard.
Honestly series like Pikmin don’t really need to be difficult or *need* a hard mode. While it is nice to have that option, trying to get 100% in a certain amount of days while optimizing your dandori skills is where the challenge comes from imo
As a Pikmin vet I’m already 100%ing 4 with ease. To say that it doesn’t need to be difficult or have a hard mode is just silly. If you’ve played all the Pikmin games then you’d know that Pikmin 4 is the easiest Pikmin to date.
@@LosEspookysit’s not really a self-made-challenge. Since the first game it’s always been encouraged to replay the game again and do as much as you can to beat your last Day score. And that’s not easy to do considering how much optimization can go into getting everything in about 1 day. Also “toddler” difficulty? Neither game is that mindless, come on now lol
@@OzoneGamerStationThat’s just my opinion like I said. A chill game series like Pikmin where the challenge comes in time management and not arbitrary stuff like bigger healthbars, rng bs, etc. is what I look for in these games. But I get if people don’t agree with it
there are 10 challenges in the trial of the Sage Leaf and the rewards are the Purple and white pikmin onions. But the true challenge are the platinum medals :)
This actually makes me quite excited. I got Platinum medals on all the challenge levels in Pikmin 3 Deluxe and they were geuninely tricky some of the times. This looks like more of the same and I'm here for it
dandori issue. the first two challenges i completed without fail in the sage leaf cave. i failed the third one numerous times since i didn't fricking know about the whereabouts of a couple hidden treasures you needed oatchi to sniff out first overall, pretty challenging cave, but i beat it all in one go. only floors that made me to a retry were the hundreds of babies you needed to kill and the last floor i had to re-do once also screw getting platinum. i am fine with bronze, silver and a couple gold here and there
Exactly, all upgrades on Oatchi and all gear ( including the real final one) make it much more achievable. Also the reward for completion is totally worth it.
The sage leaf challenges are so difficult without the pluck whistle and a maxed out oatchi, I tried it and I couldn't get a bronze without them for most of the challenges but with them they are so easy. Well, easier
I managed to beat them before even going to giants heart. Go here and splitting up oatchi and your captain is the key to it. Dig deep took me an hour without pluckaphone, and i got silver
Serious question: why is this like a soft reboot? Olimar’s story is slightly changed, being stranded in a room now, meeting an oachi. What about the president, louie, the adventures of 3? What is with Nintendo and not having continuity between games, outside of metroid of course.
The way of Dandori is truly a never ending quest for perfection. Dandori will be a term Pikmin fans use forever more.

Both took me several attempts each.
so you managed the first 9 of these even if maybe just barely bronze, in your first try? That's crazy to me
@@NinjarioPicmin Yeah.
Haven't replayed any of them after I initially managed to beat them once, but so far I still only have 6 bronze, 3 silver, 1 gold and platinum for some of these seems like witchcraft
(though admittedly some of them I just missed the next medal by like one or two seconds

I haven’t finished my 100% playthrough yet, but I finished the shipwreck tale today and honestly it might some of my favorite pikmin content ever. Every time I think pikmin 4 can’t get better it proves me wrong. I love this game so much.
Olimar days are actually even shorter than the original
Pikmin 4 have a 15 min time per day
The other 3 games are 13 minutes
And Olimar have 11 minutes, making this even more crunch time
If you're having a hard time with these, it's because they are pretty much designed around you having all or at least most of both you and Oatchi's upgrades, after that they are really easy to beat, but a bit hard to platinum.
pikmin 4 is 3 pikmingames in one
daytime is 1st game
olimars tales is 2nd game
dandori is 1/3, nighttime is 1/3 and caves are the last 1/3 game.
The final Dandori cave was something else... that was HARD I was just barely able to do it and I'm very meticulous with my Pikmin playing. There were two different occasions where I just barely made it literally at the last second. Literally the timer was 00:00 when I got the Purple Onion.

@@PapaBiffy Yes I know! 😭
Tough? Granted, you can't take your time as much as the main game - but Olimar's challenge is still pretty damn easy...
Bigtime worth it as they're broken to be able to propagate.
so 5 challenges gets white and 5 more gets purple?
also, do you unlock the sage challenges by playign olimar's story? he seemed to say that in the video but i may have misheard
@@jubbsticksYes

Also you need 100 purple pikmin to get a treasure so you kind of need it for that

SPOILERS:
My favorite cave in the game has gotta be the remake of submerged castle from pikmin 2, the englufed castle. So much of the game has been inspired by 2 and I love it so much for that.
I love that one but I also liked the icey hot one was cool
i got 70 pikmin killed by one wallywog in the submerged castle remake
so that was fun 😭
The day actually is shorter in Olimar's story.
Oh my god, they even remade the "part acquired" jingle! That's so neat!
I actually found the main game WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY harder then olimars shipwreck story i breezed trough the olimar thing with 6 days left on the clock. but the main game well i found it like pikmin 2 difficulty which im really good at pikmin 1 but i just suck at 2. probably because i wanna go fast. olimars shipwreck tale is still probably my favorite part of the game absolutely amazing.
things that recked me in pikmin 4:
engulfed castle of course i do not perform well under stress. (im not under stress in pikmin 1 because ill just beat it in 12 days out of 30)
groovy longlegs i thought i could just call my pikmin out of dancing mode. which i could not so they all got stomped on and i refuse to rewind.
man at legs in the final cave is probably the hardest boss pikmin has ever seen.
the final boss also screwed me over the first time.
also i was expecting the smoky progg to be difficult but he was a pushover which sucked i don't like not getting recked by smoky progg.
The days in Olimars shipwreck tale do in fact pass more quickly as stated by one of the loading screen tips
Getting platinum on all the stories of the white leaf is a lot of fun! Especially story 7 was such a difficult challenge to get platinum lol
I really enjoyed getting platinum on story 10 and especially story 5, probably one of my favorite parts of the game!
Really satisfying when you got the flow down
I can’t believe they basically put a PIKMIN 1 remake in this game. This game is amazing!
The game overall is way too easy, even the harder battles and Olimar tale. They REALLY need to add a hard mode where enemies are way more aggressive and have more health. That's not difficult at all to implement, especially considering how long this game took to make.
The final cave is also somewhat difficult, if you're dumb like me and only bring 70 pikmin because you expect wild pikmin to appear.
I just finished the Trials myself and I want to watch Alex livestream his first real attempt at clearing the whole thing.
The way he looked at me and said "run" scared me
All this feels like it could have been a DLC campaign, but it was a complete secret, and Nintendo included it for free.
The traditional 2-week 100% challenge is now an absolute nightmare even if you don’t count night expirations.
I’m a new fan of Pikmin 4 and I’m loving. If you’re on the fence get it!
I’m so glad I’m not the only person who shouts at the screen/Pikmin 😂😂😂
Fortunately you don't have to Plat to get the rewards, but you need endgame upgrades to even stand a chance at it
Plat medal strategy for sage leaf 1 is pretty simple.
Time is confirmed to go quicker in Olimars story. The game tells you so.
The Olimar’s Shipwreck Tale makes me wonder how olimar wrote all the voyage log entries about the special pikmin and the caves
Spoilers for the cave of the sage leaf but if you are able to succeed to floors 5 and 10 (there are only 10 floors total for his cave), you get two rewards, and I believe you'll be a fan of the new stuff you obtain.
Spoilers afterwards if you wish for a honest reaction to the rewards:
As rewards for completing the challenges for floor 5 and 10, you get the onions for purple and white Pikmin, purples being the final to get.
I wasn't sure if I'd grab pikmin 4, but now I have to!
No Oatchi run is insanely impossible. So many things in this game are things only Oatchi can do.
That's how it might seem right now. That's why it would be cool to figure out ways around it. The only main problem I see is dashing through vases, I can see ways around other things but someone would need to put them into practice. Obv you need oatchi in the beginning but after that.
I'm trying to do a 100% no upgrades run on another file, should definitely be possible but it'll be harder
The fact he has bad amor is hilarious
When I did the first quest/mode you covered, I cut it right down to the wire. It was too close for comfort!
It seems you are missing Dandori skills 😂😂😂
There’s a tooltip when loading into this mode that explicitly say the days are shorter compared to the main game.
In the sage leaf trial, use oatchi more, he can attack and break down walls, the charge is amazing. Also you should unlock all the tech gear for the pluckaphone because I don't think it's possible to platinum if you have to pluck pikmin manually
The Sage Leaf trials are really annoying but have to be done to get certain onions…
You have to somehow find a way to herd them all into one central area and stomp them quickly with the Purples, but it is HAAAAAAAAAARD
is there mission modes
Maybe I’m weird but i move the camera up and down almost constantly to suit the situation. Especially in combat
I have beaten all (Found in replies section of this comment) Sage leaf levels. The rest of details will be found in my reply to this comment.
I am stuck in that cave where you have only 5 people Pikmin and need to defeat a hundred worms plus those jumping insects.
I cannot get past it ..
I accidentally discovered this mode while looking through the gameplay guide menu to figure out how to change my character's appearance
The guy from the video probably doesn't play games very often and suffers of a thing called "dandori issue."
I feel what makes the first game more difficult is the lack of skills that you can use in the game.
While it is nice to have that option, trying to get 100% in a certain amount of days while optimizing your dandori skills is where the challenge comes from imo
setting challenges like that for yourself is not as fun as just raising the game difficulty up from toddler difficulty

The reason you feel like you have less time is because you can't go into the caves that put time on pause
This actually makes me quite excited. I got Platinum medals on all the challenge levels in Pikmin 3 Deluxe and they were geuninely tricky some of the times. This looks like more of the same and I'm here for it

Serious question: why is this like a soft reboot? Olimar’s story is slightly changed, being stranded in a room now, meeting an oachi. What about the president, louie, the adventures of 3?
What is with Nintendo and not having continuity between games, outside of metroid of course.
And Xenoblade but everyone forgets that series…
