Great video, awesome you joined the bike party. I’ve now ridden the Pathfinders, GK Slicks in 32 and 38, GK SK in 38 and WTB Riddler in 40. All great tires for different needs. The GKs were probably the supplest of that list. But, if you want to feel supple, Rene Herse are dear but oh boy. I LOVE my Rat Trap Pass 26x2.3. Crazy fast and hella supple. I’m going to try their 700x38 this summer. Cheers!
Which camera are you using for the on bike videos through the mountain roads etc? I’m thinking of getting the DJI mini 4 and the latest DJI action camera
How did the Gravelking Slicks work out for you? I've got them on my gravel bike. It's a super lightweight tire, so probably a bit flat prone for a touring setup IMO. Definitely sheds the grams though. I don't think there's a lighter weight gravel tire in that size.
Have you ever measured the width of the tires? How close are they to the stated 42mm width? What is the internal width of the wheel you are running these on?
Nice video, very curious after your findings between tires 🙂 I really like these pathfinders (I've also got the tan 42mm) I run them with inner tubes and had a flat after 'just' 700 km, but to be fair that was due to running over some nasty glass (heard it cracking under both tires). For a few km I thought, well that could have been worse, then my ride got more supple and realised I had a leak. It was quite forgiving, I stopped every two kilometer to add some air and came home OK. I came from 50 mm Schwalbe Big Apple Plus tires that served me 15.000 km without a single flat(!) and they still have life in them. The reason for a swap was that they are more 'slicky' all over, especially in the corners. They are also quite heavy, just swapping to the pathfinders saved 1.1 kg (over two pounds). The pathfinders have great grip in the corners and also in looser underground, the Schwalbes would start drifting much earlier. With higher PSI the rolling resistance is really surprising, close to slicks indeed. Great Outro BTW!
Good info here. You got right to the “meat” and didn’t waste time “unpacking” the tire. I think that’s a waste of time. I also have a Diverge and I’m currently using the Pathfinder Pros that came with the bike. I was curious as to what user videos I could find for the S-Works Pathfinder and this video was ex reassurance. I ride in similar mixed terrain like you. Have you upgraded your wheels, or are you using the stock aluminum wheels that came with your bike? I would like to hear your opinion if you upgraded to carbon fiber. I have been giving some thought to upgrading to the Royal Terra C wheelset.
Looks like part of the Ventura bike path in some of the clips - be careful about pumping your tires up to near max tire pressure on wider tires. It's not so much that the tire can't handle it, it's the rim that'll be the weak point. I blew out a rim at around 80-85 psi on a 40mm tire - you'll want to check with the rim manufacturer to see what the max psi is for a given tire width on their rims. But really, lower your PSI anyway...70 is wayyyyy too high. I did the Cedar City Belgian Waffle Ride (130 miles) with around 27 psi in the front and 30 psi in the rear (at around 150lbs + 29'ish lb bike w/ full water and seat bag) on Rene Herse Hurricane Ridge 42mm tires (knobbies), and even at those pressures I was cruising along on the pavement sectors, at least until I ran out of glycogen at around the 6 hr mark.
I hear you completely! As a new rider in the last 1.5 years I'm still experimenting with PSI's, tires, etc. The minimum on the tire says 50. When I go back to them this will be my starting point (and will probably go lower). I'm also a heavy rider too. Thanks for your feedback and tipss!!
I have the same bike in 56! What frame/bikepacking bags are your favorite? Looking at something to fill the frame and possibly get away with not needing anything on the handlebars.
You really should drop from 70psi and get down a lot lower even on paved roads. The tired cracking is exactly that.. too much air. Like 50 max loaded up.. 40 unloaded max. 30 max for trails. Nice vid and letting us know your experience level was nice.
I worked as a bike messenger and this was the kind of tiers we used. Fast middle stripe and off road we would have traction on the side. A good middle way. Over time I have gotten more wheel sets, then I can have the tiers installed and the only thing I need to o is to transfer the cassette. 20-25mm tires are much faster. Also... I have offroad-ed with racing bike on slicks. It works... kinda. Need to be careful in turns and on gavel. More as a test to see how fare can you push fast slicks. Also it gives you more bike skills (know how). Just like you learning about air pressure. Best way to learn is to just do (play).
I’ve since learned! It was a bumpy ride on the Utah Cliffs Route, to say the least. My tire had started leaking from my spoke nipple when I tried pumping air into my tire with my hand pump. My warm showers host retapped much wheels and that made me hesitant to run at a lower PSI.
Yup. New to biking and very nieve. I was super impressed when I put on Rene Herse tires and ran them at 35 psi… felt like I was riding a full suspension bike!
I run my Pathfinder pros 42s at 32-35 front, 35-38 rear offroad and 40ish on road. 145lbs.
Thanks. I'm 190lbs and run 28 psi off road, and 35 on road. I love these tyres and find them very long lasting and fast.

Tires are so much fun! That's got to be my theme of this year of cycling.
I love this review, your channel rocks. Looking forward to your next vid.
Nice video Trent :)
I’m running the S Works pathfinder on my gravel / winter / commuter bike and going for the pro on the back.

Great video thank for the information,i have a gravel diverge and also going to change the tires for 42’s and i will “never stop the curiosity “
YESS!! Never stop chasing your curiosity!!
Great job. Loved watching. Look into the Red Shift Shock-stop. It’s like a mountain bike front fork comfort on your gravel bike! You will love it.
Thanks! Will do!
Running a redshift suspension stem and seatpost on my gravel rig. Heaven.
Nice video, very curious after your findings between tires 🙂

Great Outro BTW!
so how are the GravelKings compared to the Pathfinder?

The Relevate Designs full frame bag is amazing and fits PERFECTLY on the diverge 58cm. I have older bike packing videos when I'm using that bag.
Great video, I have a 37mm tire will definitely go bigger to 42mm

Beginner cyclist mistake.Ive learned my lesson since lol
@@TrentSiggard i did enjoy the vid..will be checking out more for sure. good stuff and honest point of view is a value !
any opinions on these PAthfinders on hard surface during WET conditions ? not mud, but wet hard surface...
I didnt experience any problems, but didn't have a large sample size.
Great video and information.
20-50 psi tubeless...i use stans race sealant and hve zero puncture /problems...
I wanna buy those tires for my wife :) How do they handle in the wet? do they lose grip on the road?
They handled great! One of my favorite all around tires
If you have pathfinder on gravel bike and want to almost exclusively ride on tarmac, 80psi takes it to roadbike performance?
I'm not sure exactly how this works... but the tires are very fast rolling, no matter the PSI. And great puncture protection too!
Hi, could you share how many miles this tire generally last on the rear? Thanks?!
Depends on weight, but these tires aren't too pricey
How do you fix scratches on that yellow?
Do you think the 700x42 would fit on a 40?
I'm currently running the 42's
Remember ... tiers are to be used, so... they will crack and be wore down. And then you get new ones :p HOPEFULLY they still have the ones you like!
I switched over to the Gravel King file tread slicks I showed in the video. They’re fast- and I’m liking them so far!

Glad it was helpful!
The gravelking slicks will outperform the pathfinders for your type of use. Air it down to 40psi and watch it fly.
I've been thoroughly enjoying them! Hit a 14 mile PR on my first ride with them (at 40psi) too!
70 psi on tubeless 42s 😳
I run 70 psi on my clincher gp 5000 in 28mm, don‘t do that ob your gravel setup

70 psi... crazy.

3:14 Gorgeous
Lose the dork disk, LOL
After this, I did!
70 psi??? bro cant be serious lmao
No one set me straight 😂 newb mistake
Bruhhh
Yes I know my PSI was way too high back then 😂
