    I tried really hard to follow and had to pause and google ever 15 seconds. Lots of great information and so awesome to see the different connections and options with the zone setup.

    Thank you so much for posting this! I've been trying to find out how to do this, and even Denon customer service said that it's not possible 😂

      You did, in fact! :) I am contributing editorial on AVS Forum now. The last article I published just recently was on this zone2 concept. I am hoping to be involved in more upcoming AVS content as well.

      @@Techthusiasm the content is really helpful. I’m currently building a home with a theater 7.4.4 m&k setup. living room 5.2 and rear patio. I made the decision a few months ago to have everything ran to the theater av closet and use ruipro for 50-75ft AV run to living room.
      Of course, I have lost sleep over the decision. Lol. But it seems like I’m on the right track. My main worry was AV dropout and CEC not working over long runs. Also ps5 remote would be 50 feet away from the console
      I have a denon 6700h so I’m try your multi zone setup out.
      I need to look into control 4.

      Thanks! 50’ might be pushing controller reception. I use RIUPRO fiber cables too. They’ve been solid for me.

    Nice setup. So I'm curious if I'm understanding the Zone2 PCM / Passthrough setting correctly. I have a HT setup in Zone 1 and a TV + Atmos soundbar in Zone 2. With passthrough enabled, will I get Atmos in both rooms when watching the same or different sources?

    • @Techthusiasm
      @Techthusiasm  9 місяців тому +1

      Not all preamps/receivers pass through HDMI the same. Many will downmix the audio the audio to two-channel. So, you need to shop carefully to make sure, if you need it, that zone2 HDMI passes the original signal untouched.

    NICE SET UP! ALL THAT EMPTY RACK SPACE- PUT THE PS5 SIDEWAYS IN THE RACK…MINE LOOKS AT HOME IN MYB RACK

      I kept the consoles on the top of the rack for better controller reception as I sit away in another room from them to play. That said, the PS is gone anyway now. I sold it and my Xbox to go all in on PC.

    Great video. I’m going to do something similar to this setup with a Denon x4700h 3 zone reliever. Quick question. Do you absolutely need the Control 4 component?

    • @Techthusiasm
      @Techthusiasm  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks! Control4 not required, but it does help to have some kind of control ability to set all the right power states and input settings. FYI, I have another follow-up to this coming within a few weeks as well talking about how I've evolved it a bit with a hybrid setup.

      Yes, you can swap zone states and inputs in their apps. I did with my Marantz.

      Im looking to do the same with the x4700h - how did it go? I actually need 4 zones (in the future) , 3 for now. I would love to see or hear about your setup with the x4700h. My zones are: 1 - living room (4.1), 2: patio outdoor, 3: basement. I want to ensure as I build out my system that the x4700h is right avr to do so.

    I'm not getting video out on my Zone 2 from my Denon. Any suggestions? Also, do your console controllers have any issues playing from the other room?

    • @Techthusiasm
      @Techthusiasm  10 місяців тому

      Hmm, hard to debug with limited info. Sometimes, yes, controller reliability has been a pain with consoles/PC downstairs and playing games in the living room. Xbox controller reliability in particular has been a mess for a while.

    How can the controllers connect to their respective devices if the devices are located in a totally different room? am I being dumb now or what is it that I don' get?

    • @Techthusiasm

      Wireless range is pretty good nowadays and can go throw walls. That said, it's not always the most reliable, and Xbox controllers for the Series X have suffered really poor reliability. I'm in the process of moving my PC up into the actual room I game in now.

    Love this setup. I'm doing the same with my marantz. Zone 1 main room with 5.1.2 and zone 2 with 2.0 setup. I'm running USB hub over Ethernet that has an Xbox controller receiver plugeed in for my gaming PC. . How are you getting the control signals from your controllers to your consoles? Thanks.

      Consoles are just wireless. PC I use the MS wireless controller adapter for Xbox controllers. I’m close enough in my living room I can have the consoles down on my rack and it works in both rooms.

      Wireless reception isn't flawless this way, but it is solid. Elite controllers tend to work better than the regular models.

    Have you tried putting out different frame rates in different zones? I'm trying to have one zone output 4k at 60hz, SDR and nothing fancy - and the other zone to output 4k 120hz, HDR, Dolby Vision and Dolby atmos. Is this even possible?

    • @Techthusiasm
      @Techthusiasm  10 місяців тому +1

      I don't use my multi-zone like a matrix, meaning I never use the same source in two zones at the same time. So trying to mesh different resolution, HDR, and frame rate support doesn't matter.

    • @bubmario
      @bubmario 10 місяців тому

      Ah, I wouldn't need them both on at the same time. More just, I want one zone to default to one frame rate (because the TV only supports 60hz) and the other zone to defualt to 120hz, since the TV in that other zone supports that. I haven't been able to find many examples of that though. Thanks for your reply!@@Techthusiasm

      This will work, yes. I ran my game consoles this way through the home theater preamp to two zones. The living room TV can of course do more than the theater projector can for games. The problem is, as you change zones, it's like reconnecting your console/PC to a set up each time, and so you may need to tweak settings or reconfigure an item or two. But it works. The source gaming devices will give you the features of whatever it is live connected to at that moment. As long as your preamp/receiver though also supports 4K/120 pass through and HDMI 2.1.

    • @bubmario
      @bubmario 10 місяців тому

      Cool! Thanks much for outlining this. I'm pretty close to figuring it out, I think, but I'm just running into issues where it is downconverting the whole setup to 4K SDR when I connect the less capable TV at all (even when it is off). If I unplug, it goes back to everything being 4K HDR, but I obviously just want to leave stuff plugged in and flip between stuff with my app remote.
      I am using the Denon AVR-S970H. Is there a different Receiver you would recommend for the setup? It supports 4K HDR 120hz, dolby vision, and dolby atmos - so I figured it would be enough for my needs and the high end works great. It's just connecting the low-end setup makes it all drop to that. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts and your setup!@@Techthusiasm

      Just as a quick aside, I did actually achieve what I wanted to here. Basically, I just use the denon app to turn on HDMI output on a per zone basis. It works like a dream. Took a little bit of fiddling and testing to get it right, but right now I can basically game in the basement home theater and living room at will.
      The trickiest part was getting eARC to work right with the TV and Denon, but I basically had to plug the Apple TV into the eARC port and not the Denon...oh well. Works just fine.
