    Besides vocals and guitars I think Scott on drums is under estimated.

      The video for "Anybody Listening?" was my introduction to Queensryche. Before then I wasn't aware of them. This song kind of knocked my socks off, and I immediately looked into their back catalog. To my delight, their songs were consistently fantastic.
      They had the exact mix of ingredients to their songs that I hadn't really found anywhere else: Intensity, power, melodic harmonies, a heavy edge, good interesting and meaningful lyrics, dramatic build, stellar musicianship from all, pounding drums, and unparalleled VOCALS!
      They were the whole package for me!

    They had a magazine article. That said Empire was recorded so perfectly. That record producers were setting equipment to how that album was set for other bands.

      Yea it’s tough … I like their harder albums like Warning, Rage for Order and Mindcrime … Empire was great just in my opinion started to go too soft mainstream rock compared to their earlier releases.

    "Rage for order" is all day long their best album.

    You've just asked us to pick our favorite child! Can't be done! The thing is both albums are wonderful in different ways. I LOVE both of them!
    But if I HAD to choose....I'd have to go with Operation:Mindcrime.
    I believe Geoff left the band in 2012. 🥺 A fatal blow!
    Also, Chris's departure left a gaping hole in the songwriting and performance chemistry.
    The FIVE of them TOGETHER were pure MAGIC! I really miss that lineup. No one could equal them, IMO.

    Such and awesome song. I'm in the crowd in the video (filmed at Madison, WI) and is still the best show I've seen ... tied with Maiden's Powerslave tour.

    • @rexsephe
      @rexsephe 4 місяці тому

      I had no idea that vid was taken in Madison. I grew up in a small town in southwest WI and QR was huge when I was in junior high & hs. Was the venue from this video at The Coliseum?

    • @billwell9266
      @billwell9266 4 місяці тому

      @@rexsephe yes, at the coliseum. Venue was large enough and they figured without a sold out crowd, there would be room for cameras and equipment to film. A few clips are from LaCrosse and/or Green Bay.

    • @rexsephe
      @rexsephe 4 місяці тому

      @@billwell9266 Wow! That is cool that The Empire album has ties to Wisconsin. Do you know which venue in Lacrosse was included in this vid? Was it the Resch Center in GB? Also, I'm so fricking jealous that you got to see some of the Power Slave tour! By far my favorite Iron Maiden album. Wasn't there a gigantic mummified Eddie head that floated over the stage after splitting through a massive stage prop pyramid? Listening to Rime of the Ancient Mariner would have been absolutely epic in that environment!

  • @SEPDER
    @SEPDER 2 місяці тому

    DeGarmo was the soul of QR. The original lineup was the best live band I ever saw, and I'm ancient,. My firs Concert was Frank Zappa. The Building Empires Tour this Show was from was most of Empire and then then ALL of Mindcrime. Saw them countless times and this tour was the pinnacle of what a Show could be. They were one of the first bands to use headset mics, and no amps or gear visible on stage. Just them and some ramps and they all were showmen. If not for them there would be no Dream Theater. Queensryche developed an audience for bands like them, Fates Warning and countless others. They couldn't sustain this level like Maiden, but I saw both at their peaks, and Queensryche were better.

    During their EP, Warning, Rage for Order and Operation Mindcrime era they were known as the “American Iron Maiden” … then transitioned into the “American Pink Floyd / DefLeppard …. Even though I do love Empire I prefer their earlier music. After Empire I dont care much for their new music. Die hard early Queensryche fan over here.

      Could swear on the album the lyric goes:
      'Love our stage to flay upon'.....

      'Love our stage to play upon'
      and the lyrics said the same...

    Like, there’s no comparison between Operation: Mindcrime and Empire. Mindcrime is a masterpiece of a concept album. Empire is a totally different style, but just as good in its own right, and some say, a pseudo-concept album. How does one band change their style so drastically from one album to another, and make it work and still sound unique and like themselves? Thus is the mystery of QR. I agree with what @gaybarz posted below. I love Rage, Mindcrime and Empire equally, but for different reasons. They did nothing as excellent after, for sure, though they continued to make good music.
