    That is a well known fact that the Fokker 50 is still one of the best ever twin turboprops in as much as quality as operating/maintenance costs. Nice film. Thanks for sharing it with us Fokker4ever.

    I wish they still built Fokker 50s, I used to like it when Ansett used to fly them from Melbourne to Wynyard in Tassie until sadly Ansett pulled out of the Melbourne to Wynyard run and Kendell (now known as REX) took over using SAAB 340s which are still a good plane. Unfortunately Ansett were losing money on the small airports but Ansett were badly managed in general cause they went belly up.

    It still is a bloody shame that the Dutch government did not lend a helping hand when Fokker needed that hand 25 years ago

    Excellent video of the Fokker 50, the best turboprop plane of all time. The benefits of this aircraft are unmatched with respect to its direct competitors. With the resurgence of the new Fokker, the saga of the great Dutch aircraft is promised to continue.

    I really love to travel in such an aeroplane whose engine makes a massive roaring sound which you can even get to listen to the engine sound while sitting inside the aeroplane.

    A shame that Fokker went under in 1996, if the company was saved I reckon they would have made more of this magnificent aircraft. 213 were produced, and only around 80 are in service left. Australia was a strong hold for Fokker 50 for many years with Skywest when its former parent Ansett introduced them to its fleet and Alliance Airlines. When Ansett folded in 2001 Skywest survived and continued to operate these aircraft, Virgin Australia purchased the company and about a year later retired and sold all 8 F-50's, Alliance would retire its F-50 about 5 years later. Turbo Prop is a dying breed now, its all jet these day unfortunately.

    At 2:27, does the door make contact with the ground? Wouldn't that eventually compromise its structural integrity?

    • @Ibirdball
      @Ibirdball 5 років тому +2

      No it doesn't. Other Fokker jets (F70/F100) have this feature as well.
      You can see at 2:37 the door is just above the ground.

    Why was the Fokker 50 phased out of airline service much earlier than
    the De Havilland Canada/Bombardier DHC-8 or even the ATR 42/72 series???

    • @m.hstudioproductions6642
      @m.hstudioproductions6642 3 роки тому

      Yeah, that's what I want to know. There should've been U.S carriers operating the type due to it's very quiet and fuel efficient performance. I'm surprised that some U.S carriers like US Air, American Airlines, America West and Midway Airlines were the only ones that operated a very popular Fokker type during the early 1990s, the Fokker 100.

    • @pascalchauvet7625
      @pascalchauvet7625 3 роки тому +1

      @@m.hstudioproductions6642 I personally consider the Fokker 50 to be the quietest airliner -ever- on takeoff. Almost inaudible. Unfortunately it was not simultaneously built by Fairchild in the US like its predecessor, the F27 . US Airlines simply prefer to buy in the US instead of a small country in Europe they have hardly even heard of. I've flown in the Fokker 100 myself, pretty good acceleration on takeoff and an air brake at the back like a fighter jet.
      Unfortunately at the beginning they had some fatal crashes which ruined its reputation.

    • @F50Aircraft
      @F50Aircraft 3 роки тому

      @@m.hstudioproductions6642 Fokker 50 was slower then other turboprop aircraft and people in the USA are obssessed with speed.

      @@m.hstudioproductions6642it's very good possible that US airplane manufacturers had a hand in it to get foreign competition of the market...

    for such an apparantly great aircraft it was a spectacular failure compared to its grandfather F-27.. Such an old design to compete with ATR's Saabs and dash's

      Considering that it is based on the F27 structure which had been around for decades before the dash 7 or dash 8, I’d say it’s the other way around.
