- Dutch interview with pilots, outside inspection, pre-flight checklist, take-off from EHLE, flight above Amsterdam during Koninginnedag 2006 and landing at EHLE. Pilot Jan and FO Rob welcome you to join the flight. English subtitles added february 2015.
I was a pilot on this actual aircraft in 1987-88 conducting flights around Australia, I logged just over 300 hours in it. It was registered as VH-NLS. We had a chance to visit EHLE Aveodome a few years ago and see her final resting place. Great she was not scrapped.
The other two very high housed Friendships in Australia: VH-EWA; VH-MMS should also have retained either in an Australian museum or in the Netherlands.
40 years back an F27 Captain held an almost God like status, these days no one wants to fly them.
When the Beatles flew from Sydney to Melbourne in 1964 I think on their Australian tour. The crows was epic . They came down in a Friendship. That surprised me at the time , I was very young though . I was expecting an Electra or Viscount.Boeing 727’s did not arrive until 1966 again from memory.
Super Maschiene
@@mitseraffej5812 godlike status? Why ? Was it difficult to fly or any other reason?
I worked on Fokker as a flight engineer, from 1978 to 1980 then moved on to the DC-9, it was a nice plane, we called it the mule. My regional ATI company had 16 F-27s in service from 1964 to 1982. The sound of the Dart was beautiful.
In 1972. Van Isiro naar Ndjili. Was toen een jaar of 8. Wij noemde deze vliegtuigen "wiske de fluiter". Bedankt voor het posten. Mooi! Een ex-sabena medewerker.
That captain looks like he came right out of Hollywood central casting.
"We need a guy who looks like an airline pilot captain. Ahh, there you are. Front and center."
Damn, but that is one sexy airplane. Great vid. Thanks.
Pretty close,
Jan Maasdam in fact use to fly for the Dutch Airforce. guess thats the same ;)
Rob Jansen used to be a colegue of me. Long ago.
Even tho I cannot speak Dutch, I enjoyed this little film, Thank you for posting!!!
This footage of Fokker F27 brings back my childhood memories. Love this plane.. Awesome..
Great aircraft. I worked with them for a few years in the 1980s during my tenure with a regional airline. The sound of those Dart engines always warms my heart :).
Great video. It brings nostalgic memory of the early years of my career a a pilot. I flew as a co-pilot and a captain a well as an authorized examiner on the F27.
Legendary aircraft. Built like tanks. I lived and worked in Iceland during the 1980s. F27s were the workhorses for internal flights. Travelled on them many times around that beautiful country. Very special video. Thank you.
yes eventhough i can't understand Dutch i enjoyed the video thank you from New Zealand. A fan of the F27
The sound inside is close enough to outside to remind me of seeing them at Mt Cook Airport as a kid :-)
What a thorough & delightful pre-flight check this magnificent gentleman did with our Fokker
Fantastic film. Thank you so much. The DC-4 right at the end is the cherry on the top. I used to live in Holland when I worked for Shell Den Haag. I was the only Englishman to become fluent in Dutch within Shell! Ever since I can pretend to be South African, which is not a lot of use! Love Holland, the people, the place and the planes. Used to watch the planes land at Schipol on some Sunday afternoons. Happy days.
Friendships were nice looking planes. Grew up watching them fly over in New Zealand. Great memories of great aircraft.
This aircraft was once ZK-NAH with NAC and Air NZ, so you may have seen her in person!
Same. Whistling wonders coming in over Christchurch in a nor' wester :)
This is brilliant, thank you for the English subtitles - much appreciated. Now I know what they are talking about. Previously I have watched this clip but couldn't understand (due to the language they were speaking), but now I can. Great work.
Very good show sirs. Nice pleasant flight in a now, nearly "Vintage" airplane. My father has flown it for many years in Pakistan International Airlines, across some of the world's toughest terrains, like the around the Hindu Kush, and the Himalayan Mountain Range. Calls it a tough little girl.
Excellent video demonstrating true Dutch efficiency and professional airmanship through a beautiful Dutch aircraft!
Brings back memories of my childhood. First plane ride in my life was on f27 kota kinabalu to sandakan with Malaysia Airlines. That engine has that distinct sound that brings back good childhood memories. Thanks for the video!
I used to fly the F27 years ago. It was a solid plane. It had a great de-ice boot system for its day.
Ervery night the F-27 passed over my house, with it's typical sound. It went from Amsterdam to Teesside in the colours of Air Anglia.
The a/c PH-FHF in the video is a mark 100 ser no 10105.The a/c was purchased from Aer Lingus by the New Zealand National Airways Corporation and registered ZK-NAH.It still has the NZNAC galley in the front and still has some blue plastic corded freight nets also in the front cargo.I helped service it in Christchurch New Zealand and at Safe Air Blenheim New Zealand when it was with Aircruising Australia touring NZ.During that time it was a very reliable a/c.Note the Dunlop steering motor.
This gorgeous aircraft makes A HELL of a beautiful NOISE !! My favourite !! So LOUD !! OMG !!
When I was middle school student,( 1970's) I went to my parents town with flights of F27.I am from Myanmar(Burma).
During my time working in Flight Service with DCA and its successors this was my favourite aircraft. It served the "bush" like the DC3 before it. During 5 years at Ceduna Flight Service I'd often go outside onto the units balcony to smell the kero and and listen to the tubo props and their high pitch screaming. All gone now without a trace.
I deliberately took a Ozark Airlines F-27 flight from Omaha to Chicago, which made 5 stops, just so I could prolong the wonderful experience. Yes, I'm a propliner geek! I also worked in the travel business from 1971 to 1990 and got to travel on many great aircraft.
This is super sorry I did not see it myself before. Thank Christian.
Regards Rob
Flew on this aircraft on a number of occasions when she was in New Zealand, first with NAC and then with Air New Zealand. She was registered as ZK-NAH. Prior to New Zealand she flew with Aer Lingus. Three of her sisters from Are Ljngus also served in New Zealand as ZK-NAA, ZK-NAB and ZK-NAF.
I worked for Piedmont Airlines based in Winston-Salem North Caroline. When they started their fleet was DC3's, then Martin 404s then F27s, built by Fairchild. The last prop s were YS11. The F27 was my favorite turboprop then an still is.
Love the blue and white livery. Makes it really stand out.
I love the Fokker F27, it was in my "Janes Aircraft" book of the 1970's. I also saw them fly in Dubai as Gulf Air had them in the 70's for their regional routes.
My thoughts are the F27 is a good, simple and balanced design and it was easy and low budget to mantain and repair. Some notable features, low ground clearance, simple avionics and controls and turboprop engines. Wish the F27 was still made today.
Garuda at 1976.
My childhood plane. Great memory
Beautiful! Great aeroplane, and what a friendly and professional crew!
Moi Gedaan, jonges!
Wish I was back in Holland on this flight with you.
Indonesia was once a big user of the F-27s, for commercial airlines, chartered air services as well as military...
AMAZING video !! Thank U so much /..love from UK !!
A very interesting video explained by a super friendly Captain! well done!
He really loves this plane. Te Gek. I can smell that special airplane smell when they are in the cockpit and that electric sound overhead. Fantastic.
So nice to see this aircraft flying! Great vid! Thanks for posting.
Have the EHLE/ Lelystad scenery as add on for my FSX. Thanks for sharing!
Super video of an excellent plane!
What a lovely old example ...it is obviously much loved (at least when this was shot LOL)
Thank you!
Nice flight, cap! Congrats
1987 Eindhoven-Cardiff. Cardiff-Gilze. Militair toestel voor para troopers. Was dienstplichtig.
Thank you for sharing this :)
What a beautiful airplane. Very classy crew. Then again, that's Dutch. Where was this? A PBY Catalina in the background, then a C54 or DC6 at the other end? Nostalgic indeed. Thanks for posting.
This is at Avidrome in Lelystad. That's a museum where they have lot's of classic planes inside and outside. Like the L-049 constellation and dc-6. In most of these planes you can get inside. It's really awesome.
Now with English subtitles
leuk zo 'n enthousiaste gezagvoerder!
Jan Maasdam indeed is a a verry well known Fokker F27 pilot that i remember from the time that he was flying this aircraft for the Dutch Airforce.
Later he went to KLM
Rob Jansen i also remember from that time, (he occasionaly trained me for my pilotslicence and i even one had his wive and then two weeks old son as a passenger ;)
Jan is talking about using the AutoPilot, from what i can see from this aircraft there is not verry much of an A/P availabel (difficult to see as it must be on the begin of the pedistal.
Jeehhh long time ago all this...
I miss it very much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@AccessAir Thanks!
Ontzettend gaaf, hij is toch noch steeds luchtwaardig
I love this work horse. The sound of the dart 532-7 engines makes me turn.I supply water methanol for all the dart Engines from 511 to 552. any Airport in East and central Africa. man! this Aircrfats are great.
I have only 2 memories of this aircraft.
When I was about 5 and got on, I thought it was a huge plane.
Next time, I was about 25 and I'm now 6'2, thinking "Damn, this is small"....
Very dedicated engines. will give you Hours of snug free service provided you have an apt pilot with attention to detail approach. Must get the Pre- flight check list right. the 542 powering the HS748 is just too good. it lifts that tube effortlessly.. I love this machines.
Next time i'm going to Holland that will be on a KLM Fokker F-27
54 years old. This is actually the first production F-27. Delivered new to Aer Lingus.
The most striking feature of this aircraft is the fact everything is controlled by pneumatic systems. The plane has no hydraulic systems.
Sorry, my mistake. Should have done my homework a little better. Thanks for the update though!
I have it on MS Flight sim FS9 (HS748)
Heard it last summer in the Yukon.
I will make an English translation and add subtitles soon...
+Christiaan Drent Soon? Gotverdomme! Sonder nee? Grooenten vanuit Engeland. Denk ik Nederlaan and Engeland het selvde, (same country).
I survived a bomb explosion and an emergency crash landing in this plane. The bomb exploded in the middle of the plane where I was sitting. I'm glad the wings are on top of this plane.
Thumbs up if you miss the RR Dart sound !!
yippee what a nice video!
gezellig !!!
good job..☺
i love this plane :-)
Sadly this plane is now a static display due to a towing incident causing damage to the fuselage in the tail.
It was set to be repaired but 13 years later it's still damaged.
It is verry expensive to repair, It is even more expensive to get it certified again.
Then again it is expensive to run on a non commercial base.
You try to give the video more brightness it will be great if you do
I like the Fokker F.27 design, but my favourite is the American License built stretched Fairchild Hiller FH-227. I have a website dedicated to the 227.The link is in my UA-cam profile if youd like to have a look.
Love the video....but all that cockpit action and no engine start sequence? :-(
Deru suara propeller bikin kangen terbang Trans Papua
I love the checklist. Is that thorough or what!?
Not true. This N19XE is C/N 10449, a Mk.500 . It is painted as PH-NIV, C/N 10101, a Mk.100. The original PH-NIV was grounded after test and certification flights and went to the Technic University at Delft, and was later broken up. Part of the fuselage is still intact in the collection of the Aviodrome mesum at Lelystad Airport.
ik deed het onderhoud aan F27/50ste GWK
I really like this old plane.. high wing quite safe for any maneuver. Hm I wonder if it can make a loop...
I remember a Dutch airforce F27 do a partly barrel roll during a flight show at Rotterdam airport back in the early 80's....
Good ac ever seen.
Continuing:
The first F-27 Mk.100 for Aer Lingus, C/N 10105, was registered PH-FAA before delivery, and became EI-AKA. Her commercial life ended with Aircruising Australia as VH-NLS; in 2004 she was acquired by the Fokker Heritage Flight and flown back to Lelystad Airport in The Netherlands. Registered PH-FHF.
any Fokker F27-100 pilots/ engineers here. There is another project out of Malaysia . a 1960 awaits ferry flight to Africa if we can get a buyer. Asking price RM110k only .
Leuk filmpje!
Flying dutchmens!!!
Fokker is Dutch :)
FH 227 B = TABA/(in Brasil - Amazônia).

("Hirondelle")
I heard the this F-27 -100 maybe a ex NAC / Air New Zealand Aircraft
Nigel Branthwaite yes, from 1966-1978 with NAC. 1978-1984 with Air New Zealand. This F-27 was the first del. It was del. to Aer Lingus 19/11-58. They had two aircraft del the same day. They had bought seven F-27-100, and by mid May 59 they were all flying and making money for Aer Lingus.
Motherfokker is beautiful.

I used to fly regularly from Humberside to Aberdeen Dyce when working offshore as an ROV Pilot/Engineer on F27's and F50's, they were good aircraft.
A truly great aircraft, however it is sad that it was so under powered, at least in the original version.
I flew in this kind of plane when was operated by IBERIA and AVIACO ¡ It was a legendary plane in Canary Islands at the 70'S
To Vicente Ramos Hernández and Alvaro González Tarife IN MEMORIAM
No subtitles
Is the pilot speaking Dutch in the beginning?
Tell someone how much the total weight of this flight will be?
Lelystad?
Is the pilot from Rotterdam? He talks like it, uitspraaking ik bedoel.
