I think this might have been your fault, actually - many elevators have a "motor limit timer" that trips and shuts down the elevator if it has been moving continuously for more than a certain time, usually about twice as long as it takes to go from one terminal landing to the other. Since you were using that "Dover trick" to make it run continuously without ever actually stopping and opening the doors, the motor limit timer never reset and eventually tripped.
What even is that "Dover Trick"? I vaguely remember finding that on some old Dovers there were oddities where you could make it skip a floor call, but it only worked on one or two where I tried it... and another oddity where you could just hold door open and pop out at a disabled floor as it passed
MLT wouldn't be associated with a traction elevator. MLT is for hydraulic elevators so the pump motor doesn't run continuously in event of an electrical or mechanical failure.
Well if you are stuck on a floor, you can just open the elevator and escape yourself! But do it at your own risk as the elevator could move while getting out.
Elijah Torres Usually when the doors open and they don't work, it means the lift already put its own self out of services, especially when generics from UK and all. But other brands of lifts, you need to be careful
OMG one of my fears is getting stuck in an elevator. I had to always use a freight elevator at work (when I worked as a food court cleaner I had to take the garbage cart upstairs to the garbage compactor), not sure what brand but it didn't have a gate in it, and it was old as hell.
Having worked on this exact model, I will say that the brake was set. I can't see why it would stall like this however I would say that there is definitely some maintenance issues here. Also I'm sure you know this but you should have sounded the alarm and waited for assistance, escaping like this can be dangerous, especially if the elevator is above the landing.
@@RtaincCoIf it's above the landing. Depending how high it over leveled, there's a gap between the landing and the bottom of the car. And if you slip, trip, or land the wrong way, you can fall through the gap and into the shaft.
As a elevator installer i can certainly tell that this is overspeed stop. When the elevator drops or cables snap there is A SEPARATE CABLE whom go to the separate wheel whom will trip when overspeed is measured and that same cable activates the brakes whom stop the elevator by cutting into the rails
Actually, I belive the "Dover trick" made the elevator stuck. I did change direction immediately on an old Siemens elevator in Copenhagen and that made me stuck.
I don't think the retiring cam popping out was the reason for it stopping (like it trying to open when off line) - the Dover freight elevator they had where I used to work would immediately drop the retiring cam as soon as the elevator stopped, including if the gate was opened between floors. The worst was when I accidentally brushed the door open with it between floors.... it immediately halted, flung the gate open, and jammed like that. I was able to manually close the door again with the door close button after a loooong delay and make the elevator run back to the second floor, but it never levelled - it just flung the gate open and dropped the retiring cam (it made contact) so I was treated to a 8 inch step up to the second level and it shut down. Required three controller reboots to restore service. I think I have a video on here of rebooting its braindead butt.
There is another mall owned by the Simon Property Group. They do not want us elevator enthusiasts to take photographs of the elevators that they have in their properties so that they will not be fined for not maintaining them.
