That game 7 was truly one of the best days of my life. Lavy called a time out after the 3rd goal and said we just need 1 and we took off. Gagne was my favorite player and him coming back from injury in game 4 and taking over the series was incredible. This whole playoff run felt like something out of a movie: we get win a shootout to get in, reverse sweep, go to the finals. We just never got the second half of the movie where we win the next season.
I can imagine an old, wizened Shannon chillin on the patio in a rocking chair enjoying the summer weather with his grandkids and passing along these “war stories.”
I watched game seven with a friend in Jersey and left when the Flyers were down 3-0 in game 7. It was over, everyone in Philly knew it. I’m going home over the Ben Franklin bridge when they get the first goal, and then the second when I’m on I295. I got home just in time to see the tying goal. What an amazing game, and an amazing series. My voice was gone at work the next day.
That was a big turning point, I think that was in game 4, wasnt it? And didn't Gagne return from injury at some point, close to I think the same game as the hit on Krejci too
One of the most nerve wracking series I've ever watched as a Flyers fan. I remember Lavy calling that time out in game 7 and I turned to my grandma and said "we might not be out of it yet". Incredible series, wish we could have lifted the cup in the end
“Late guy Carle, walking in, one more Gagne. HE SCORESSS. Simon Gagne, the Flyers survive, and force Game 5.” - one of Joe Beninati’s best calls. Wish he still did the national games in the playoffs
Will never forget this series as a Flyers fan. The team was so special. Got into playoffs on final day, upset high seed NJD, 0-3 comeback vs BOS (series & in G7), destroyed MTL & had one helluva series vs Chicago
I'm a Habs fan and I admit while watching this series on the days where the Habs werent facing the Pens I was getting worried about the Flyers surge of momentum. All in all though that year was a mess but fun to watch, just like you though I didnt enjoy watching the finals
I’m calling the 2015 series, it’s going to be the caps/rangers. Even though I’m a diehard caps fan, it’s still one of if not the most entertaining playoff series I’ve ever experienced (exclude 2018 run). The goaltending was insane from Hank and Holts. Aside from the outcome for my team, this was the pure definition of a legitimate Perfect Stanley Cup Playoff Series
That was just a great playoff year all around. The Pres Trophy Caps choke a 3-1 series lead to Montreal, this thriller between BOS/PHI, The Hawks run against gritty Preds and Canucks teams, and the grand finale in Philly!
Hey Shannon! As a video idea, it may be neat to examine all the times a team was down 3 games to none and forced a game 7. I think usually people assume the team that was down will complete the comeback, but I recall a few times that wasn't the case (Chicago 2011, Detroit 2011). It would be interesting to hearing your analysis on it. Keep up your great work!!
I know that it's not really a thing as of the moment but I think the 2011 Canucks has 2 series that deserved a deeper look at ( Chicago Boston ) plus the San Jose series was peak sedinery and the not so flattering dramatic ending, falling one game short of extending the Olympic tradition. I could see a 2011 entire Canucks playoff run video being well worth the endeavour
I remember watching game 7 on a tv at a Rise Against/Four Year Strong concert in Philly lol very 2010. I thought Philly would win the Cup that year. Apparently all the Philly goalies were playing through some injuries and even today some Philly players say they would've won that Cup if the goalies were healthy, but as a Flyers fan it was obvious that Chicago was just too fast and could match the Flyers physicality. 3 Cups dont lie. Still love this Flyers squad though.
Game 7 wasn't a matinee (at least in the east). It was a Friday night. I remember it vividly. I was at a bar, getting chirped through the 1st period by a guy who was only chirping me because I'm a Flyers fan - he didn't actually care who won. Shame he wasn't around when I almost got kicked out when Gagne scored to take the lead :-)
The 2010 Flyers are a lot like the 1993 Phillies and 2001 76ers. Philadelphia teams that were gritty underdogs and made it to the championship round only to come up short. And the city still loves and appreciates them regardless of them not winning it all.
I lost over $100 on this series. My brother-in-law has been a Flyers fan since the Broad Street Bully days and he bet they'd come back from 3-0 and I had to take it. Instead of cash I took him and his family to Memphis Blues bar-b-q restaurant for dinner which cost well more than $100. Damn you 2010 Flyers!
One of the greatest series, but it still gives me anxiety to think of those times. Morale was low, especially, after Carolina upset us in 2009 as the #6 seed in game 7 OT. Thank god we got the Cup the next year.
Amazed the Bruins only played 62 games that season when everyone else played 82. How did they pull that off? :D. 39-30-13 the Bruins were that year but great review as always.
Can I make a suggestion, Shanny? Any way you could look into getting a clip-on microphone or something for better quality audio now that you're well north of 100k subs? Thanks!
Ahh... The Flyers 2010 playoffs... Briere's dominance, Giroux's emergence, Boucher and Leighton's injury antics, 3-0 comeback... what's not to love!? Sorry Shannon but hey, look on the bright side. The finals weren't great so ya didn't miss much.
We beat the defending champ penguins and the 1st overall caps. I was hoping for a flyers comeback in this series because "we have a better chance against them. It should be easy [comparatively speaking]." Oh the thoughts of a naive young habs fan.
These are the series I hope you cover the rest of the way (I correctly predicted this series): 2011: Det vs. SJ 2012: Phi vs. Pit 2013: LA vs. StL 2014: LA vs. Chi 2015: Wsh vs. NYR 2016: Chi vs. StL 2017: Tor vs. Wsh 2018: Pit vs. Wsh 2019: Dal vs. StL
Granted I can’t say I’ve followed every series since 08 closely, but the 2011 Sharks vs Detroit has to be one of the most evenly matched series ever. Any team could have won any of the seven games and that’s not an exaggeration. Detroit fought tooth and nail to tie the series and even though I hated them at the time, I have to give credit to the Sharks for winning game 7 when it felt like the wings had all the momentum and were heading to Vancouver.
Probably was tough for you to take as a Boston Bruins fan but that's what the team needed to refocus for the 2011 Stanley Cup win. Had Game 4 in overtime plus two elimination games at home to close it out. Worse when Boston led 3-0 in Game 7 in the first period.
I remember us going up 3-1 in Montreal on April 21, my birthday, and thinking this series is over; We've got Price's number. Halak was like the Spanish Inquisition: Nobody expects it.
Funny, after Game 4 I had the same idea too, that Boston was going to choke, also thinking it would be another Pens/Flyers conference finals where the Pens would go on to win Back-to-Back Cups because there's no way the Hawks with Niemi are beating the Pens in the Finals that year. And also preventing Hossa from winning the Cup again, as a little bonus! 2010 was a strange year...
If this doesn’t smell of a fix for nhl $ nothing does. No way phl had any business winning this esp after being down 3-0 in game 7. And I’m a lifelong Flyers fan living near phl. Snider definitely made a deal w/ the devil. Look at the horrors, Parent eye injury, Nystrom 3 ft offside goal,Lindbergh, Dailey, Lindros bust,I could go on...no cup in 45 years? Looks like the Rangers jinx came south. And if you’ll say Lindros wasn’t a bust, I’d undo that trade in a second.
@@JWarrior_81 I am a flyer fan so I know for sure. I am just messin with Shannon here. Apparently I just looked at comments and apparently the Bruins played 20 less games as well (check your boston math as well). Again just messin with him. Regardless I do love your content though Shannon. Keep up the good work. I do hope you do the 2012 flyers/pens series. Best wishes.
Leino should’ve stayed in Philly. He wasn’t the right fit for Detroit nor was he that for Buffalo. In Flyers foster he happened to be just the right piece on the right line.
The flyers wanted to keep him, but leino wanted to get paid, and the flyers didn't want to pay him what he wanted. In retrospect, the flyers dodged a bullet
Ha ... so Boston fans have been on both sides of this type of collapse in recent history. Sox come back against the Yanks in '04 (I think that's the right year) and the Bruins choke on their sticks against the Flyers.
I hate both teams, but this was horrible. As much as I laughed at bruins fans the fact that it was the flyers that pulled off the upset kind of made it upsetting as well.
Not gonna lie, listening Jack Edwards' commentary during that game 7 was hilarious.
I can only imagine.
Brett Donaghue I thought he was actually relatively objective in his game 7 commentary
That game 7 was truly one of the best days of my life. Lavy called a time out after the 3rd goal and said we just need 1 and we took off. as a flyers fan ill never forget this series or that run to the cup. especially that game 7.
I watched game seven with a friend in Jersey and left when the Flyers were down 3-0 in game 7. It was over, everyone in Philly knew it. What an amazing game, and an amazing series. My voice was gone at work the next day.
I was at the game in Boston. Never lost faith. Knew one goal was all they needed.
Watched game 7 on the jumbotron at the wells Fargo center. I'll never forget it
No mention of the Richards hit in Krejci, kind an important moment in the series.

It was like a movie I swear. Couldn’t of been scripted any better. Except maybe them winning the cup but even then it was an amazing run
I just wish we could have beaten Chicago after this. G's gonna get his soon though.
Had this been in the conference final, we could've steamrolled Chicago with the momentum.
I'm a Habs fan and I admit while watching this series on the days where the Habs werent facing the Pens I was getting worried about the Flyers surge of momentum. All in all though that year was a mess but fun to watch, just like you though I didnt enjoy watching the finals
this series, as a Philly fan at 11 yrs old , got me into hockey.
I’m calling the 2015 series, it’s going to be the caps/rangers. Even though I’m a diehard caps fan, it’s still one of if not the most entertaining playoff series I’ve ever experienced (exclude 2018 run). The goaltending was insane from Hank and Holts. The Flyers 3rd period comeback in game 1 actually tied the game at 4 with Savard then scoring the OT winner to give the Bruins the win
Esoteric Infinity Yep he missed that oof
I'm convinced Simon Gagne made his living terrorizing the Bruins in the playoffs
in 2011 bruins beat tampa where gagne played tho and won the cup
Game 7 is on the short list of my favorite sports games of ALL-TIME
That was just a great playoff year all around. The Pres Trophy Caps choke a 3-1 series lead to Montreal, this thriller between BOS/PHI, The Hawks run against gritty Preds and Canucks teams, and the grand finale in Philly!
Loved hearing about this and seeing the highlights back in 2010... kinda ruined it that they won in 2011 :p
Simon Gagne, the human dagger. I will never ever forget that name. As a Bruins fan, we’ll said Shannon. Thank you for calling it like it is.
Where is the Marc Savard Goal in game 1?
I missed it.
I'm a sabres fan, but this is one of my favorite playoff series ever. Game 7 was so fucking perfect

Suggestion for 2012 Pens vs Flyers
One of the greatest playoff series I’ve ever seen
Game 7 wasn't a matinee (at least in the east). It was a Friday night. I remember it vividly. I was working OT then because I was getting updates during work.
The series that nearly broke me as an Penguins fan was against the Flyers to. 2012 that series was insane 56 goals in just 6 games!
I remember the Flyers making that run. Definitely did not expect it.
The way Boston lost game 7 was a literal microcosm of the entire series, Boston gets the first 3, Philly got the last 4. Perfect irony
urinatingtree time.
The 2010 Flyers are a lot like the 1993 Phillies and 2001 76ers. Philadelphia teams that were gritty underdogs and made it to the championship round only to come up short. And the city still loves and appreciates them regardless of them not winning it all.
"Opportunistic... Flyers celebrate... SImon Gagne!"
I can't believe Boston blew that series. It should of been Boston vs Chicago in the finals but thankfully it wasn't.
I think Montreal would’ve beaten Boston that year tbh
Maybe. Montreal vs Chicago would of been a fun finals to watch.
Great series!!!
Must be nice to see things reopen. Oregon just extended the stay at home orders until July
Losing Krejci really hurt for the Bruins.
not just him we also didnt have Marc Savard, mark stuart or marco sturm in that series
Classic series.
This is one my favorite series' the only one that I think is better is when the Canadian's came back from 3-1 to bet the Bruins in 2004. Sorry shannon
Gagne coming back mid series was a game changer for Philly
Lavy telling the NBC sports on ice reporter during game 7, who I forget,
We're going to win this game.
I lost over $100 on this series. My brother-in-law has been a Flyers fan since the Broad Street Bully days and he bet they'd come back from 3-0 and I had to take it. cliffordangus hawks got the cup in 2020
cliffordangus 2010
Mason Wright I know the Blackhawks won in 2010. The next year is 2011 when the Bruins won.
Worst Bruins loss I’ve ever experienced, made me question if I should continue to invest time watching sports lol
This one really made me think I'll never see them win the Cup.
James Hey atleast they came back and won it all the next year
Brett Smith Oh yeah it was awesome, especially since they went through Philly to do it
At least boston redeemed themselves the year after
🧹
I say this alot, and it's so true. A 3-0 lead in the first period is the worst lead in hockey
Rask doesn’t get enough flak for this. He gets chastised for 2013 even though that wasn’t his fault. 2010 looks far worse
Leafs fan here. This series makes up for what ended up happening to my Leafs 3 seasons later.
Bergeron I still hate you.
Game 1 went to OT. Savard scored the winner for Boston. Flyers comeback in the 3rd WAS NOT too little to late.
Amazed the Bruins only played 62 games that season when everyone else played 82. How did they pull that off? :D. 39-30-13 the Bruins were that year but great review as always.

I need a Ville Leino contract
These are the series I hope you cover the rest of the way (I correctly predicted this series):
2011: Det vs. SJ
2012: Phi vs. Pit
2013: LA vs. StL
2014: LA vs. Chi
2015: Wsh vs. NYR

Let me guess before watching: Shannon starts doubting Bruins from the get go thus precipitating their collapse
Do Leafs vs Flyers 2003!!!!
Fun video (but I think the Regular season records are a bit off).
The bruins took their lumps to eventually get over the top. Of course Tim Thomas also helped...
Heck yeah he did!
At least Vancouver didn't do the exact same thing the following year
And dont forget Flyers were without Carter entire series !
Well it’s about to happen again
sharks vs kings next?😂
Which team(s) Adidas jersey is your favorite? Maybe top 3 or 5?
I have to say that I don’t like the way Adidas has crafted the neckline on the jerseys, old CCM did the best looking jerseys bar none
Thank Dog you didn't talk about Montreal beating The Capitals in 7 in the First Round. As a Caps fan, It was one of many low points.
I remember us going up 3-1 in Montreal on April 21, my birthday, and thinking this series is over; We've got Price's number. Halak was like the Spanish Inquisition: Nobody expects it.

The bruins record he put says they only played 62 games while the flyers played the full 82 games 😑
Hard to see number philly 28 and it´s NOT Big Kjell! Longest stick ever, ha ha.
Didn’t Thomas have a bad hip that year?
yes also we didnt have david krejci Marc Savard, mark stuart or marco sturm they were all injuried we would of won the series had they not been hurt
If this doesn’t smell of a fix for nhl $ nothing does. No way phl had any business winning this esp after being down 3-0 in game 7. And I’m a lifelong Flyers fan living near phl. Um Shannon, check your magnets on Game 1. Apparently it was a 4-4 tie So I guess the Flyers won it in 6 games??
No playoff games end in ties. The Bruins won in OT.
@@JWarrior_81 I am a flyer fan so I know for sure. I am just messin with Shannon here.
