Ron Hextall is my all time favorite Flyer and the reason I grew to love hockey as a kid. Without him I don’t know if I become such a fan. Crazy? Maybe, but his passion for the game was contagious.
No Danny Briere? I would have thought you would have loved him. Based on what you describe as your fav players I thought Danny encapsulated those qualities
Hextall was a great goalie and wasn't afraid to remind players which area of the ice was his. Was so good to see him finally get a cup many years later with the Kings!
I'm a lifelong Flyers fan. My top 10 favorite players that I got to see play: 1. John LeClair 2. Eric Lindros 3. Chris Pronger (short lived, but he was the man) 4. Eric Desjardins 5. Kimmo Timmonen 6. Claude Giroux 7. Simon Gagne 8. Mark Recchi 9. Rod Brind'Amour (no offense to Primeau, but I still can't believe they traded him) 10. Sean Couturier Honorable mentions: Danny Briere, Rick Tocchet, Brian Propp, Ivan Provorov, Tim Kerr, Scott Hartnell, and Mark Howe
Mark Recchi scored the quietest 1500 points in the history of the NHL. He reminds me of Al Oliver from the MLB, a guy whom when you check out his stars you ask "he had HOW MANY HITS?!?"
nice to see Murray Craven get some recognition. thought he was really underrated. Same with Pelle Eklund, who woulda made this list. Also Dave Brown, if only for the pre-game brawl in Montreal
Favorite active player would be Couturier. Konecny's an honorable mention. I would have added Sanheim to the list but I can't unsee a blatant double crosscheck to the back of a downed DeBrincat's head in Europe during preseason (and DeBrincat wasn't even running the goalie at all. It was unnecessary and uncalled for, and also didn't get called). I can't prove anything, but I've wondered if it had something to do with DeBrincat's slow start and subpar season. The second of those two hits to the back of the head in particular looked like it could have done damage whether it was immediately realized or not.
Gagne would be in my personal top 5. I'm crazy biased having watched him play while growing up and getting into hockey, but he always seemed to be in the right spots. Good list
I'm a huge Flyers fan and I was really anticipating this video from you.....seemed like it took forever to be released. Good list overall....I was surprised you had Lindburg but not Hextall. I personally would have had Lindros and Primeau on the listas well.
Thanks for this. I'm from the Detroit area but have been a Flyers fan ever since they entered the league. Also a Leafs and Bruins fan for decades. Yeah , i'm an older guy lol. 1952. Great job !
Thank you. I saw many wings games at the Olympia their home for decades. It was always fun when Don Cherry and the Bruins came to town. I miss the Olympia , bit time moves on and the game is still great.
Only ranking players 2000+ because thats teh era I grew up with actually watching. 1. Claude Giroux (He'd be my alltime favorite too) 2. Simon Gagne 3. Kimmo Timonen 4. Eric Desjardins 5. Danny Briere
Rick Tocchet was my favorite hockey player as a kid. My dad turned our basement into a gambling office (he had a problem back then lol) and on the wall was a poster of Tocchet, I asked who's that (I was 5 at the time) my dad jumped out of his chair and was like "you don't know Rick Tocchet?, we are going to fix that right now". He sat me down and we watched flyers hockey fights VHS tapes from his collection for days after that, that was back in 1990, and he's been my favorite ever since
When I was a kid I wondered why the Pens would trade away Recchi to bring in Tocchet, even though I loved both. It was just one of those high-scoring-winger-for-another-high-scoring-winger deals that didn't make sense at the time. As it played out I realized, Oh, right: Lemieux between Tocchet and Stevens, and Tocchet was the smallest but toughest of the three. Kinda need tranquilizers and bear traps to stop that trio.
My top 15 since the late 90's would be 1. Kimmo Timonen 2. Claude Giroux 3. Mark Recchi 4. Mike Richards 5. Eric Desjardins 6. Chris Pronger (Same as Hatcher wish he was a Flyer longer) 7. Sean Couturier 8. Simon Gagne 9. Derian Hatcher (Wish he was a Flyer much longer) 10. Ron Hextall 11. Danny Briere 12. Jeff Carter 13. Travis Konecny (Kid's gonna be a stud) 14. Keith Primeau 15. John LeClair Some Honorable mentions would be Maxime Talbot, Matt Carle, Scott Hartnell, Ville Leino, and Ian Laperriere.
Good list. It was nice to see some love for my Flyers. I would've added Briere and Simmonds. Nice to see you recognize Couturier as I think he is one of the best two way players in the game and highly underrated. Couldn't agree more on most of your players from years past.
Keith primeau ?!!! Thought for sure I’d see his name top five. Shannon, I know you said at the beginning you don’t like lindros, but I mean come on! Love the content bud!
I'm a Flyers fan and I really appreciate all you do on your channel. You've increased my knowledge of the history of the game and its players as well as kept me updated with your news videos. Thank you, Shannon. I was born in 1996, but didn't really start watching hockey until 2010. If I had to pick 15 favorite players that I had the privilege of watching, I would have them in this order: Claude Giroux Simon Gagne Kimmo Timonen Sean Couturier Danny Briere Wayne Simmonds Mike Richards Jeff Carter Brian Boucher Steve Mason Jakub Voracek Scott Hartnell Ivan Provorov Shayne Gostisbehere
Good on ya for making it clear that it's your take on a set timeline. Ya don't have to agree but ya really can't dis the list or be pissed by who's missed.
Being a lifelong Flyers fan it would be impossible for me to pick 15 but I can't argue with your choices, however, since I go all the way back to the early 70's I would have names like Rick MacLeish, Reggie Leach, Ross Lonsberry, Bernie Parent, and the like on my list. As for Kerr, the guy was beset by some bad luck too both professionally and privately. First, one of his injuries came from stepping on a puck. I'm convinced the Flyers win the Cup in '85 or '87 or both if he was healthy for the Finals. As for his private life, he losing his wife days after she gave birth to their daughter was heart breaking. He still lives in the area living in Moorestown(Camden county) as well as Avalon where he has a real estate business.
I was 14 when my beloved Flyers won back to back cups. I thought it would always be good. Now I'm 60 and wonder if I'll EVER see another cup. Still love my Flyers anyway lol
Hey can't go wrong with your list Timm Kerr no question number one injuries were tough but Timm Kerr lost his wife in his prime and i think definite factor for him
I liked watching Simone Gagne. I took him in a hockey pool once and he had 42 goals and I would wonder why his ranking was so low then I would look at his assists and he'd have like 6 or 7.

Small, fast. great shot, great hockey IQ and one of the best clutch players in the sport. Briere in the playoffs was always amazing to watch.
briere was my favorite,and leclair
One of my favorites too. Surprised he wasn't on the list. But, a good list nonetheless.
He was so clutch in the playoffs, too. Took his game to another level, ala a Claude Lemiuex type.
No Briere? Damn Shannon the disrespect. Dude was one of the all time great clutch players. Look at his playoff points and games played it's insane.
I was actually waiting for this one and I'm a Leafs fan
I am waiting for Favorite LEAFS ! Who makes The Best 15 !
@@holoholopainen1627
He'll probably put that bum Sundin in the top 5.
They need to bring that jersey back as a third.
I believe Gritty is a mix of Giroux, Jake, and Hartnell.
This, except the Phanatic was the surrogate...
Dave"The Hammer"Schultze,Bob"Machine Gun" Kelly,Claude Giroux,Rick Mcleash,and Bernie Parent...
I feel like Carter Hart is going to work his way up this list in a few years time.
Propp has over 1,000 points in his career and is not in the hall

Leclairs my favorite too!
Rod got his nose broken alot! Great 2 way player.
Tocchet and brindamour start scrappin. Lights dim. JR- “mah gawd! Thats berubes music!”
Konecny and I have the same birthday, I have been a fan since I found that out playing NHL 14. I was ecstatic when the Flyers traded up to pick him.
Mark Recchi scored the quietest 1500 points in the history of the NHL.

Number 1 Danny Briere No Questions Asked.
Having only supported the flyers since the mid 00s kimmo timonen is my all time fave. With TK and hollywood kev being my fave of the current roster.
Tocchet will always be my favorite Flyer.

Mark Howe. +85 in 1985-86. And he would play against the top line every night so those aren’t padded numbers against the checking line.
My favorite leclair memories. When he scored against hasek through the side of the net and when he took a slapper at tugnutt after the whistle

I was wondering if you use analytics at all? I think they're a very powerful tool for analyzing players.
My favorite flyer of all time is Keith primeau
Wondered if anyone would mention Keith, I really enjoyed his time in Philly especially with gagne and Justin Williams
Reggie "the Riverton rifle" Leach
Koenekny, Murray Craven’, Jake Vor-a-suck, Dave poulin over Eric Lindros; Keith Primeau, Chris Pronger; Bobby Clarke, kimo Timmonen???? I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion🤔🤔🤔

You should not be picking these lists with your biases or at least disregard them for someone who is as good as Bobby Clarke and Eric Lindros. Tocchet was awesome at times, a force out there.

My favorite flyer is lindros. NHL 99 by EA sports was a classic
Not exactly a Flyers fan, but as a Swede I really liked Per-Erik Eklund before he left Sweden to play in NHL, so he needs to be mentioned.
Really liked Pelle Lindbergh and Mikael Renberg as well.
So, that’s my totally biased top three.
As a flyers fan I love your top 15
Question? Where did you get that throwback Flyers jersey? Ebay again?
I wonder if giroux will retire with the flyers or be moved.
I don't see him moving unless he hits forty and tries to have last shot at cup if philadelphia cannot contend for the cup. I just don't see it. but he has still plenty in his tank and philadelphia is getting stronger so who knows.
VOLCACANO HINDI He has a NTC as I see him retiring a Flyer. He went through most of this decade with the team rebuilding so they finally surrounded a Cup winner around him.
