The güiro is an instrument from Puerto Rico, traditionally made from a gourd. Think of Tito Puentes' "Oye Como Va." I want to turn three, pitched to different notes on the pentatonic scale.
Ha! I haven't thought about a guiro since I was in a cover band in the early 80s. One of the covers we did was The Byrds "So You Want To Be a Rock and Roll Star". I was the drummer/percussionist so I "played" the guiro. Nice job!
Oh absolutely, wouldn't be the same song with out a guiro! It's like Don't fear the reaper and the cowbell, essential!! 😂 Thanks for watching, glad I could give you a dose of nostalgia! Cheers!
Apparently that happens from time to time, baby rattles if left for a while will develop into maracas, the life cycle of a percussion instrument 😂 Cheers Dave!
so cool, was the consistent beading for the rasp part done with something like a Sorby "easy beader" with a point in the middle between two concave depressions?
Thanks!! The beading tool is made from an old bowl gouge with a flat spot. I have shown it on previous videos so I'll have a search and link it for you to see. Thanks for watching!
ua-cam.com/video/ztUJGhRvE-0/v-deo.htmlsi=8y8lWwiwEMxLOppT Roughly 2mins 20s I show the tool close up then it's used like a negative rake scraper, flute down. Hope this helps.
Using the beading tool to make the ridges uniformly spaced is just genius! Very nice job Tim, thanks for showing us mate.
Thanks Mark!! That beading tool is slowly becoming one of my most used 😂😂 Cheers mate, take care!
Looks like it turned like butter. Nicely done Tim!
Very much felt like walnut in that respect! Cheers Todd!
Super well done Tim! 😃
Cheers Val, much appreciated 😁

Cheers buddy!! Was a fun project also learnt a lot for round two 😁
I had no idea what a Guiro is, but now i have some idea! Nice job making that, Tim!
Cheers Earl! I'm just trying to raise awareness of the lesser known percussion instruments 😂
