For the rubber eye pieces I run em but just flip them out. I typically run mine super close to my face and they act as a shock absorber on the off chance you bump into stuff (I have bumped into a lot of stuff at full stride)

I got a modest inheritance. First thing I bought was NV. I got a PVS14 L3 Harris White Phos and a PTQ136 FLIR Breach. It is the coolest thing I've ever purchased. I bought them primarily out of perceived necessity. I already had the guns I wanted and only needed a few more for my teenage daughter. I didnt really want to buy them and the sticker shock was, well it was shocking. But after getting them I couldnt be happier.i play with them at least 3 or 4 times a week after having them for 2 years. So it was kind of the reverse of buyers remorse. I really suggest if tou have the funds and you're really into tactical gear as most of us are, that you get some. You wont regret it.

Used to fly with AN/AVS-9 (ANVIS-9), pulling 7.5G in the jet…when you boys talk about accelerating the aging process, the grinding in my neck hears you!

Pulling 7.5 in a jet while wearing NV sounds like the coolest thing in the world. I'm sure it probably is. I guess there is a price to pay for that though. Thanks for paying it.

As a "poor" you too can own your own NV with proper planning and budgeting, so stop making excuses and get yourself some nods and training.

I always run rechargeable AAs. They don't have quite the runtime, but they're "cheap" in the long run, and won't leak and destroy your battery compartment.

PVS-18 uses the same exact tubes, objective and monocular lens etc.... parts as the 15, the 18 was basically a mono version of the 15 for some odd reason, they are out there in the wild but parts are getting very scarce for either. The PVS-14 was different model on its own for the Army masses who needed them, not as costly and pretty much Joe Proof......

Great video and awesome info. I'm not the richest man so I'm running pvs7's and they work awesome and were in my budget. Glad to see I'm not the only one who immediately threw those eye cups away.
Couldn't agree more that it is so important to spend time under nods to get focus and adjustments fine tuned to your eyes and helmet set up.

    • @nck4888
      @nck4888 7 місяців тому

You may want to find or purchase those eyecups, there is a good reason to run those cups and good reasons to not have them , so best to have them and not need them than to need them and not have them. Especially if you're expecting others to have NV you'll want the eyecups.

After running a few hundred hours in the woods with nvgs, mostly with other dudes, I've noticed that if you're close enough to see the glow around the eyes, you're dang near on top of them anyway. I wouldn't worry about eye cups. Not worth fighting the fog

The AN/PVS7B's that I was issued the last 8 years that I was in the Army they were brand new when I was issued them. My unit got a new issue of them to replace the 7A's. The 7B's came with little pinholes in the protective dust covers for the front lense.

The part about getting comfortable under whatever nods you choose is imo arguably more important than what you pick as long as it’s not a super low end tube. I feel really comfortable with mine but still find after a hour or two of running drills I like to flip them up turn on the lights and kinda reset with loading mags, gear check ect. Awesome information on this video 💪🏻

Calling anvis 6's heavy is funny. Considering that they were one of the most lightweight goggles out there til very recently.
Also, the pvs-18 is a different monocular than the pvs-14. It's basically half a pvs-15 and they share lense commonality. They also have the dovetail built in so they don't need a J-arm

I am one of the Crown Royal bag people lol. I store my Panobridged set of PVS-14s in 5 750ml Crown bags, and 2 1.75L bags. One day, my PVS-14s took a 3ft fall onto the floor tile of my house. I now have some drop damage in the image of one tube, and the gain knob is canted. Started drinking Johnnie Walker soon after.
JK I still drink Crown, I just keep the NV in a case now lol. Johnnie Walker is kinda gross.

Some of the low end nods are ok but you will have difficult time finding needed parts that have become outdated. Something to be aware of. Dont buy a nod and let it sit there for yrs hoping youll be able to get parts.

Biggest thing I always saw with guys in NVGs is letting the “night” and this thing on their eyes get to them. If you act normal but take you time, you will be fine. Night is just like the day. Everything is the same but someone just turned off the lights.

  • @daviddrago9360

Great video guys, but nods by themselves are becoming obsolete. Todays warfare has thermals. NV is good and good to have but can be easily defeated. Thermals are very hard to defeat and you can spot targets further. Everyone must have a thermal unit whether it’s for your helmet, hand held or rifle mount. I’d say we are at gen 7 warfare with thermals and drones
Maybe a vid on the different generations of warfare or on thermals? Good to know for the upcoming struggle.

Something to check out on the civilian side is two pvs14s on a pano mount. While a bit heavy, you get better fov (51 degrees I believe over the standard 40) and it’s much less expensive than out of the box duals. Also with it being less expensive, you can get better spec pvs14s than what’s getting put in lower end binos

Thanks guys. NODS looks super cool but there aren't a lot of people that I know that use them (it seems to be a lonely civilian hobby). For a civilian interested in going down this rabbit hole this video brought up some thoughts on helmets, and all that attaches to them including ear-pro/ comms (gets into radios), IR reflectors & lights. Maybe you can follow up with some more vids on helmets and their civilian use cases.

What do you intend to use NV for? If it’s for SHTF I think food and water is probably more important than NV. Not a fun answer but it’s what will keep you “more alive”. That’s just me. Thermal is also an important part of the equation

Excellent presentation guys! With common sense and fun facts. I am in the market for 1-2 years for good binos but haven't purchased yet as I am looking for a decent quality and a good price. Given we are not at war, I don't want to spend $9K for a great pair. I would consider $5K to 6K for a good pair but would like to know when good / great deals are out there. In general, when and where is a great deal to be found? How do you go about getting a good deal on night vision binos?

    • @observingcitizen404

Elbit and L3 Harris have just had a recent price increase of between 20-30%. This was a fee months ago. And they're scheduled to do it again. You can thankna democrat voter for that. And mostly because our treasonous Gov't is selling and giving away w/our tax dollars several million dollars a month worth of "free"(tax payer funded) NVG's to Ukraine and Israel. And your never gonna find a pair of duals that are gen3, and white phos with a decent housing for under 8k. Unless they're either stolen Gov't property (happens all the time), or scammers are praying on your seeking a budget setup. That's not including pairing 2 pvs14's on a 3d printed bridge. But I've been in the business for 15yrs, and I'm gonna tell you 8 months ago, you were able to buy aluminum articulating RNVG'sbfor 7,900.00. They're now 9,400 and that's right off my dealer sheet from 2nof the largest direct accounts I've got (elbit & L3) who aren't taking dealer accounts since 1m5 yrs ago because they got tired of people not in the business acting likenttey were dealers just to snagging a discount. But if your really serious about a very nice hand selected setup, I'd be willing to either point you towards a different companies or help you directly if your serious.

I'd usually say wait for black friday. I bought my first pvs14 for about $600 off normal price on lack friday in like 2019. This last black friday seemed to suck for deals so not sure how much you'd save anymore. I picked up a set of RNVG with very high spec WP photonis tubes for 6k on the used market about a year ago.
I've had the best luck buying NV stuff off of tac swap or some of the gun groups on Facebook back in the day.
