  • Click Here: bit.ly/3vJxole for my 3-part full-swing training series that will help you create power and consistency by simplifying your golf swing. And the best part? It's completely free!
I always get lots of questions from my students about the takeaway... What starts the club back? What is a one-piece takeaway? Do I hinge my wrists first? Do I shift my weight?
The answer is one that you might not have heard... The perfect golf swing takeaway starts with a push from your lead foot.
In today's video we will dive deeper into this topic, and look at a couple of the best players in the world to see how they start their takeaways. Because remember, if we don't start the golf swing correctly, there's no way we're going to finish it correctly!

Wow. Thanks so much! Have been struggling, and this just seemed to work. Completely changed and simplified my swing thought. Seriously a 10 stroke improvement from last week to this week.

Excellent lesson . . . when I played my best when I was younger, i had the distinct feeling that all my weight went to my
front foot to initiate the back swing (but it obviously was not weight only but PRESSURE) . . thanks for the reminder!

Zach thank you. Your teaching is amazing takeaway from pushing the lead foot to initiate the takeaway. It makes sense.

Few lightbulb moments in this video for me. I've been teaching myself for years and many of those I struggled taking the club inside. I often messed around with different takeaways, including just rotating the top half while staying perfectly centred, and while you can make great contact doing it, you lose a lot of power, so this just confirms to me that I was right not to stick with it. It also gives me some great insights into what's actually happening in the backswing of great players. Very poignant video, thanks so much Zach.

Great content again Z! Could you highlight if the push off feeling is considered from the ball of your foot or is it the outside edge of the foot…or is it the whole foot (ie a bit flat footed push off)? Thanks.

I've heard others use the analogy of screwing your foot into the ground - lead foot for backswing and trail foot for downswing.. starting with the feet forces the hip movement etc etc. Still practicing this myself but it makes a lot of the swing way more natural overall and more effortless as you described.

I need more of those vids of 'dropping it in the slot'. I am currently spinning my ball really high with a very slight fade on it. I came to realise that i am still coming over the ball and scooping it, dont matter how hard i try not too. with my drives i can hit a real lazer straight shot high in the sky which works ok but it means i have a very strong grip and I KNOW I can hit the ball much further as i have before.

One can also start the downswing from the ground up by taking a closed stance at address and flexing right knee inwards so shoulders are aligned to target line . Flexed right knee will pressure load right foot so all you have to do to start the backswing is push / straighten right knee in such a manner as to angle right leg target wards at top of leg so the right hip is inside the right knee that is inside the right foot at top of the backswing. This is another model of swing of course. There are no right or wrongs here but it accomplishes the same goal of starting the take away with the feet.

@@chrisachille4385 Modern golf teach keep left arm straight, width and other such concepts, so shorten the swing is a fix to a problem they taught golfers to have and shorten the swing is another problem to the mix as if you know what your doing you don't need to shorten swings.
semantically your wired to then shorten something that essentially dont need to be shorten in the first place which means you now added another issue to the plate without understanding what you teach in the first place.

sequence is incorrect, his proof with tour pros are wrong.
if you try this it does not work.
Talked about this on my channel as I made a video

Yes good information I like it. However if you could stand a bit more to the side we could see the pressure of your left foot better on the screen behind you.

I have been trying to figure out what movement initiates the back swing, and concluded it was my right knee moving backwards. But that doesn't feel very powerful and I.'ve never heard that before. I like this push off the left foot. It sounds more definite and powerful. I've discovered that an athletic,, active lower body leads to a better swing. Thanks! I still am more interested in your concepts of the downswing. The back and up and behind cast movement seems tricky and complicated. Maybe that's why I'm a 14! Thanks.

  • @dmilano56

Your flexibility level allows you to move off your lead foot like that. In order for me to get back to the ball without swaying I need to stack over my lead foot more. Which works for my irons, but its difficult with Driver to hit up. I use to come up with lead foot, like Nicolas , but to much sway took place. Can you put something together for us that flexibility is an issue? Thanks.

I initiate my backswing by lifting the heel of my lead foot. This adds a lot of power.

With infinite ways of doing it wrong... without a visual or proper verbal explanation, its almost impossible to pickup on the fact that the feet start the swing. Most AMs, me included, have a tendency to want to swing the arms and "hit" the ball... These tips are not always obvious to most people.

If you do this, you don't sequence the take away correctly.
