  • First use of the Mercury 6Hp on the Talamex QLA350.
    Coming from the Mariner 5Hp 17 years old, that has been very reliable but could not get me in plane. The Mercury is not much quieter nor does it have less vibrations. But the power and acceleration make up for all that.
    Mercury, Mariner, and Evinrude all have the same Tohatsu outbourd.
    The gear shift is great, and not all of the previously mentionned motors have a small tank on the unit. The Mercury has that, and it makes for a great reserve fuel tank.
    If you have any questions on the equipment used in the video, I would be happy to answer them. Not sponsored.

    Wow, I have an older 1995 Merc 4hp on my zodiac and it won't plane, the 6 looks like a rocket compared to it. I am looking at 2018 right now. I think this convinced me

    Is this the 270cm version? Do you think it will fit 2 adults + 2 children? Thanks!

    Mede dankzij jouw pracht video's heb ik een splinternieuwe 6 pk Tohatsu gekocht en de eerste 3 uur (van de 10) invaren zitten er op, met een Talamex 300 TLX (alu). Was heerlijk. Toch weer een vraagje, welke benzine gebruik jij?

      @@BCBoatsAndCanoes thanks, = 15 inch then by U.S. spec. They have a lot of 20 inch online to buy when I was looking but it's considered too long for small boat, yet they say it would work.. your setup is most correct for shaft length then in that regard and provides most speed as such...

    Zo kut dat je in Nederland deze constructie al moet registreren en met een brandblusser en reddingsvesten aan boord moet gaan zitten. Gaat nergens over.. ben je ook aangesproken door de politie?

    You like to live dangerously--not using safety kill switch lanyard and no life jacket.

    • @BCBoatsAndCanoes
      @BCBoatsAndCanoes  3 роки тому +1

      Not taking those precautions has a certain risk, you are correct.
      But “living dangerously” does not apply to my life in general.
      Thanks for watching, and the safety comment.

      Mike, if your transom height is around 16” you’re better of with the short shaft. If it is around 20” you can use the one you have.
      Thanks for watching.

      @@mikeweldon9971 These motors are 15" inch Short or 20" long. I have a 20" on my 2.7m dinghy VERY similar to this one in the video. Works great. (Some manufacturers count 20" as short shaft still). it is certainly on the upper limit on the short shaft range. Useful having the 20" if like me you use the motor on both the dinghy as a tender to a larger boat, where I use it as a trolling motor and emergency kicker motor. 6 hp wont get you anywhere fast on the stern of a 24' launch but it will still give you steering and a nominal forward speed until help arrive. most useful as a trolling motor on the 24' launch. Great motors.

    • @BCBoatsAndCanoes
      @BCBoatsAndCanoes  4 роки тому

      Kept it outside standing on the cones, in direct sunlight. No issues so far, very impressed with the quality.
      Only had to re tighten the screws under the wooden seat ones, but that is after 250hrs of use.
      I would expect 5 to 10 years of use, depending on how you store it.
      Thanks for watching !
