  • A new announcement from the Justice Department about Ticketmaster and Live Nation could change live concerts forever. Live Nation and Ticketmaster have long faced criticism that they are a monopoly after their merger. The Justice department is said to be readying an anti-trust lawsuit against the corporation.

      But do those clubs control their own ticket sales or they use a ticket seller that is just another branch of the Ticketmaster/LiveNation family tree? I know many very small venues (100 people or less capacity) who are part of that family tree.

  • @ryanshinermusic
    @ryanshinermusic 15 днів тому +7

    They tried doing this like 10 years ago.
    Ticketmaster ended up “giving away” free tickets to concerts for every ticket you purchased dating back to the ‘90s.
    However, they never honored it.
    I think I literally had like 50 ticket vouchers in my parents’ account and Ticketmaster literally never accepted any of them.
    It got to a point that it would include an error message that had a date of like 2018 or 2019 or something on it and when you put in the codes after, the same date would appear for “we should fix this by this date.”
    It was such a scam. Ticketmaster shouldn’t exist.

    As far as being able to get into the queue and buy tickets, I'm not sure there's much of a solution there for high demand shows. But for the rising prices, they've started doing "dynamic pricing" based on demand. I read a snippet from Bruce Springsteen defending the idea of selling tickets for $2,000, saying "if scalpers can charge that much and people will buy them, why don't we charge that much and then we get the money?" Not untrue, but the bigger issue is they need to combat scalping. Don't let people sell or transfer the tickets for more than face value.

    • @charlesbolton8471
      @charlesbolton8471 13 днів тому

      Apparently, Ticketmaster/LiveNation has a new feature that artists can opt into called The Face Value Exchange where tickets aren’t allowed to be resold for above the original price. The most recent concert tickets I bought (and I go to at least 12 shows a year usually) were for the Neil Young & Crazy Horse Tour, and that was the first time I’ve seen an artist use that option. The downsides are that apparently some states don’t allow the Face Value Exchange, and the obvious fact that it does nothing to lessen the excessive Ticketmaster/LiveNation fees.

  • @13vansman
    @13vansman 15 днів тому +2

    For years, probably even decades, we've been getting screwed by TM/LN. Some latest issues that bother me are: 1. "dynamic pricing", a seat price should be established, and that should be it. The price within their system shouldn't fluctuate from second to second. 2. their fee structure. Whether I like it or not, I can understand a fee for this and that...but that fee should be flat across the board. Why is a "cheap seat" fee $50, and a front row fee $450? It's not like their website, app, or an actual human worker is doing anything more or less for either ticket. You log in, select a seat, and make the purchase. This shouldn't be percentage based or a sliding scale. 3. The "official platinum" seat scam. They claim they're offering a premium seat, but the seat next to it could be half the price, there's nothing premium about those seats, except the price. Who is receiving the difference in price? TM/LN? Probably not the artist. I could go on for days listing issues, but those are 3 that really bother me.

  • @ursulasakaski9768
    @ursulasakaski9768 15 днів тому +5

    They need to lower ticket prices or alot of people won't go to the concerts. This is crazy. They have to do something or get sued about it.

    • @charlesbolton8471
      @charlesbolton8471 13 днів тому +1

      Ticketmaster/LiveNation doesn’t have any control over the original ticket pricing that is on the artist. However, Ticketmaster/LiveNation could control “re-seller” pricing and their “fees”.
      Even though the original ticket prices are artist controlled, the artists should be criticized for the high prices, because most are no longer selling recorded music at the level they once were or that artists in the past did so they need (and deserve) to be compensated for that work and that leaves ticket sales to pick up the difference.

    Finally...any type of Monopoly of {any kind} is just all Bad. This is just a legal form of scalping at the one-percenter level.
    Unfair to the Artists & Unfair to concert-goers who can have their lives changed (especially young people) just by experiencing a Live performance. Any exposure to Live Art, particularly music, is what inspires people to continue to create music for their next Generation.
    Brave people to clamp down on all this 'smoke & mirrors' BS excuses for outrageous ticket prices; the legal filers are courageous because they know they are in it for the long haul, so thank you to them.
    I just hope this also calls attention to the plight of musicians, who are essentially held hostage by their initial unfair record contracts. Good Luck. 🍀🎼💚

    These companies have become the new scalpers of the day...they have been that for years.
    They buy up all the tickets as soon as they go on sale and then sell the tickets at an inflated price plus all the fees + add in a few more fees,then sell you insurance on the tickets for another fee. Its just ridiculous for fans who dnt have the money for the acts you want to see.

    Back in 2013-ish I bought my son tickets to see Slipknot at a LN venue in Tinley Park IL. I paid a $2 service fee per ticket and got actual tickets in the mail. I was 🤯. I had never paid less than $5 in service fees, going back to 87'- present. I vowed to only buy from LN venues, that didn't last long...every show I purchased tickets for after that had Ticketmaster type fees, and they started to sky rocket along with ticket prices. I don't mind paying a service fee ($5-10) but when the fees are almost as much as the ticket, fuck that!

    Pearl Jam tried back in the day went to congress and were crucified. Today, Pearl Jam still sells out every seat even behind the drummer and up. That’s a lot of money in Ticketmaster/live nation. To get PJ tickets is through the fan club but you can only get two per show. Not fun.

I’m not particularly fond of the higher ticket prices, but it is understandable considering that most artists don’t make as much off of record sales as was done past. I also wasn’t fond of the demise of printed tickets when that first started happening, but once again I really think having the “tickets” on an app on your phone is an improvement, too.

    Eddie Vedder sued Ticket Master around 20-30 years ago, and no one would back him up, so he lost the suit. NOW people are crying about the insane cost of tix. People are ridiculous.
    Oh well, it's mainly Pop acts that charge these insane prices ($300 or more) anyway. Pop fans have been getting ripped off by their favs for a long time, so they should be used to it, by now. Hundreds of dollars to watch some talentless small-brain grind like a stripper, while they lip-synch to a recording. Pathetic.
    If you just let Live Nation keep raising the fees, they'll price themselves right out of business. It would be hard for a venue to be all private sky-boxes, and Ticket Master can't succeed with only 60 rich kids buying tickets for a show.
    I'll be sticking with my favorite musicians, charging $30 bucks for 3-5 bands in a more intimate venue, where I can actually have a psychic connection with the bands, and the other fans. And I have no problem paying $60-$75 for an all-day music festival.
