You can also swap it out for the dinghy outboard in a pinch. You guys are going to be the best marketing possible for the maker of your next boat.
I am now buying my last boat (I am over 70). It will have much of what you want as well. A few comments from my experience: Lithium batteries should be UL 1972 certified. That means Master Volt or Xantrex. Aluminium is renewable. Fiberglass is plastic. Like poor quality lithium batteries, propane is a fire waiting to happen. Leave it out. A forward looing sonar is really assuring. So is a FLIR thermal camera. With it, you can get some sleep during your night watch. Finally, "performance" is really misunderstood. It does NOT mean high end speed. It actually refers to the ability to sail lin really light winds. That requires narrow hulls and, consequently, light weight. But, that also means a reduction in creature comforts. There is a compromise.
Right on there - forward facing sonar would have saved many a boat in badly charted waters and Caribbean bombies. Think it will also give you warning on any sudden sand bar depth change too… but you should be watching your Nav.
@@RogerWilco1 Yes, you are right Roger. I did not mention Lithionics but I should mention that Master Volt and Xantrex have extensive world wide support while Lithionics does not. The same goes for diesel/electric hybrid systems. Herley's new system would be well supported in New Zealand (where Herley is located) but not widely throughout the world. This is also an issue for me because my new (2nd hand) boat has diesel engines using proprietary parts that are well supported in Europe but not elsewhere
Forward sonar needs to look along way ahead, I suspect at 5 knots you won't have enough time for a lot of systems. I see there is one 100 meter system. I read about an Outremer hitting a reef in Tahiti, which because of the solid glass bottom was able to slide back off. On a performance cat I see the dagger boards as another part of safety to prevent grounding.

Closest I have seen to your dream boat is the Maine Cat 38 (electric version). Think UMA has shown that electric propulsion with good regen can work well. Other utubers have demonstrated (you included) that electric galleys work. Interested to see what you have found. One question, why hybrid? Personally I would rather have the propulsion/regen system as one system. And have a generator as a separate system with only electrical connections to the engines (being able to bypass the batteries if necessary).
Your list matches ours 100% For that reason we think it’s HH44. We really like the Balance too (442 would be the size but haven’t seen one IRL yet) but think the HH is the one that checks all your top 10 boxes. Can’t wait to see this journey continue!

The Wynns are my favorite sailing channel and top 5 of all channels. Anyway, I also watch Sailing Uma and they seem to be pioneers in the world of ReGen sailing. They are hard-core sailors, pushing their self-refurbished mono-hull to it's limits, while focusing on sustainability. They have tackled much of the southern hemisphere, up the Atlantic and a year in the far North including, the Arctic. It is very interesting watching different styles of sailing. I am so excited for the new boat and the opportunities it will provide. Hopefully, it won't take a year for production, like I have seen recently. --Jessica from Florida 🌞
It does sound like an HH44 and they just happen to be in New Zealand where the designer and co owner of the company comes from. It is designed with those 10 wishes in mind, particularly the panels and propulsion. The cost is throat drying however.
Sailing Uma are a mono hull but have been 100% electric from day 1, They have upgraded to Elrctrovolt with regen and Lithium. They have managed a winter in Norway and summer in the Arctic without needing anything else except the occasional recharge at a marina (but that was before the upgrade). You’re doing the right thing! GFI
@dboboc Nikki and Jason spend 40-60 hours/week producing the content that you get to watch for free on UA-cam. Patrons *choose* to support them because they find value in the content, and I'm not sure why you're angry about that. Congratulations!!! I've always LOVED Balance Catamarans! Although I don't love Phil Berman (for various reasons)- he & his S. African partners have designed & built some OUTSTANDING cats! It's the ONLY vessel that is so very close to the ultimate "Electric Only", as everything else is just not designed for it. I've seen more of the 482 than the 442 and I'm sure that either will fit the bill with the Integral Electric System & LiFePO4 batteries. I love what they are doing & I agree- it matches with your goals. I'm excited for you, and I think it will highlight an awesome boat builder. Good on Ya!!!
I just bought a boat, and Phil lost me as a customer when he demanded I use him as a buyers broker, not just contact him for boats he represents. (there should never be two brokers in a deal, you need a law firm and a surveyor, not a buyers broker.) So, none of the boats he represents were considered. (Fortunately, none of them were very good, and Balance is booked out years.)
@@RogerWilco1 I struggle with his ego, but- he genuinely has been part of improving the cat building industry. He has moved the whole crowd from accommodating the rental fleet to addressing the private buyer. Outremer & now HH were a few firms that were taking care of private buyers. Lagoon used to try to keep feet in both but...
I was in contact with Seawind last year about building an all electric 1370 and they told me that they wouldn't do it. I hope that they changed their position on that, we'll just have to see? I was looking for a diesel Genset to assist the battery bank when needed. They poo-poo-ed the idea.
@@Centurion04 Well true that, but I strongly feel that the 1370 has a far better layout than thw OC/HH44, and although I do not have any info on how these boats are constructed, I am extremely impressed with what Ruby Rose has shown us how Seawing is building their boat.
We too are looking for something like what you are however we plan on strict motor over wind. We have ideas we discuss and once we find the right boat it will be time to go to work.
From watching all of these sailing shows, I had a similar list. Sailing Uma has Electric engine with Regen. They bought a backup generator (Diesel) to run in low sun areas to power the electric motor. They are also starting a campaign or business to redesign and create your unique living/workspace rather than buy the stock boat layouts which can be antiquated. Home comforts, Uma added a wood stove in their boat for cold areas. Are you getting a desalinator (water maker for safety purposes? SV Delos: How about an electric combo washer/dryer and that satellite wifi dome. Can you totally enclose the cockpit area and adjust your sails from there or even drive the boat in the dining area? can you add an indoor garden to grow things. Lots to dream about, can't wait to see your new baby!🎉
I was just thinking about Sailing Uma and their electric propulsion in the arctic. :)... and their new improved regen. Pretty sure they have been working with companies in this area for a while now. I also wondered about a back up water maker just in case :).
The upcoming Windelo 47' seems like it ticks almost all the boxes previously mentioned except having a known rain capture system (which might be available - since specifications haven't yet come out on it). The rain capture part is the biggest mystery, since most manufacturers do not have this onboard - Xquisite being the only other one I can think of as having it standard (and they only build 50' + yachts). Seems like, since the hurricanes hit the Caribbean and destroyed so many yachts/catamarans, most manufactures have really doubled down on charter yacht design, with feature sets not friendly to long term cruisers/couples - even companies like Leopard. It's a shame that most folks only have the option of retrofitting these boats to make them work rather than having a brand or two focused on this market segment.
Now the question becomes ... did they like my comment because I guessed correctly, or because they just wanted to torture me/redirect the group ... (I assume the later - lol). Actually, I think I guessed the Windelo in a comment on the last video where you first mentioned selling the boat. In any case - I can't wait to see you on your next adventure/boat! I have to live vicariously through someone, after all!
Hi do ya both gotta Catamerameranpicked out n it got most or all the 10 features on ur list do ya No when ur getting the Curiosity II, KEEP INTOUCH k....
It’s absolutely an HH44, it’s a new model, and there isn’t another boat that’s even close to this list. Especially the solar, battery capacity, electric everything and hybrid propulsion. So cool, can’t wait to see it!
Well, if that's true, that is an expensive 44 footer. Looks to start at 1.2 million, so i'm sure it will be every bit of 1.5+ delivered. That's an awful lot to spend on an experiment. For that kind for money, and the complexity of the systems involved, I think I'd let a few of the kinks get worked out first.
@@riggerman362 I hadn’t seen those before. That’s a nice boat, love the recycled aluminum hull. I’ll support them getting that as well… as if that matters. Haha
Jason I agree, a separate and dedicated work area would be great. A workbench with a vise and grinder mounted on it. A drill press also and plenty of storage space for spare parts.
That's pretty much my list too, except for one more: ease of access to all systems. I don't know why boat manufacturers assume people working on boats will be 4' tall contortionists.
Our next batteries for RV will be Life-Po which is lithium phosphate. It is exciting waiting for your announcement on what specific sailboat you are getting.
Your size limit (under 50 feet) knocked out the top two that I was thinking of, either a Sunreef ECO-50 or a Silent-Yachts 60 (since they've stopped building the 55). I definitely agree with some others about how reassuring it would be to have a FLIR and forward looking sonar in addition to the more normal suite of electronics. For some reason, I'm thinking you may be joining the crew of Ruby Rose in Ho Chi Minh City for a Seawind 1370 although they don't list hybrid propulsion on their website as an option.
@@AORD72 The 1370 has a lot of carbon fiber in the build. Not as much as some of the higher end boats of course, but enough to get the above waterline weight down somewhat. I've been following Ruby Rose and they're currently documenting the build of their own after renting a 1260 for quite some time while sailing around the Whitsunday Islands.
@@Danellr007 Apparently S-Y wasn't selling enough of them, so they're concentrating on the larger versions. I _DO_ agree with you 100% though, I'd prefer the 55 but WITH their kite-sail option.

Good luck, I suggest doing extensive research into longevity of any given electric motor/motor saildrive you select and know exactly what the safety cutouts are and how to quickly bypass them, as ive seen three cats now have their electrical drive systems cut out and incur so much damage that they all needed to be hauled. Where to fit the rigid solar to recharge that lithium bank will be interesting.
Have you all started a list of contenders? I’ve been watching Sailing Ruby Rose and the build of their Seawind 1370. The 1370 may be fit a lot of your needs.
I recently did a "what is your dream boat survey" and your boxes are same as mine...45" electric cat with solar and regen...rain capture is something I did not have but it makes sense...looking forward to your big reveal..,if ever in Barbados give me a shout!
Those are 10 very good points and i agree with you. How about one more thing, actually 2 :) . #1- A proper haul-out and support system for the tendor. #2- A space to easily store land vehicles (scooters / bicycle or whatever). cheers
Electric is a boondoggle. Have fun. Sad I won’t see y’all in Australia this season. Pulled out most of my solar because it was doing nothing. Haven’t used the AC since USA but my boat spends most of its time out of the water and we sail in the tropical winter.

What Southern Hemisphere sailing has Uma done?
@@sparklepea none, they did the Caribbean loop and then went North and East.
#1 Built-in StarLink antenna cast right into the boat canopy, right next to the solar panels.
The Exquisite X5 from SA is in my top 5. HH44 comes second.
Meets all your requirements. Exceeds them actually
Loved the idea of rain capture
It does sound like an HH44 and they just happen to be in New Zealand where the designer and co owner of the company comes from. It is designed with those 10 wishes in mind, particularly the panels and propulsion. The cost is throat drying however.
Yup, this is the only boat that meets the requirements. I hope more builders follow sooner rather than later.
the oc version is cheaper made from e glass with carbon bulkheads same design
Ya, that's my guess too.
My guess also.
Agreed
Congrats on the HH 44! Love your channel.
GFI
Ocean volt step 277 sailing Uma #3 install best of luck! Can’t wait to keep learning 🥰
Amazing stuff, exactly what I would like to know more: self sufficiency using today's technologies. Good luck and keep on posting :)
Not very self-sufficient when they’re asking people for money….
@dboboc Nikki and Jason spend 40-60 hours/week producing the content that you get to watch for free on UA-cam. Patrons *choose* to support them because they find value in the content, and I'm not sure why you're angry about that. Some people choose to spend $5 a day on fancy coffee, or to rent a digital movie, so what's wrong with spending $5 on a video that you really enjoy watching?
Curious Minion
@@gonewiththewynnsMinion don't sweat the small stuff. The rest of the half million know why we are here (i think he was also not angry, just made a remark). Btw you elevate this remark by replying :)
That's a pretty balanced boat you are explaining. Seems to check all the boxes.
Yeah as they were going down the list I kept thinking Balance probably has that feature and they do have the new 442....
I just bought a boat, and Phil lost me as a customer when he demanded I use him as a buyers broker, not just contact him for boats he represents. (there should never be two brokers in a deal, you need a law firm and a surveyor, not a buyers broker.)
So, none of the boats he represents were considered.
@@jackm3040 Antares was also one I considered as they were listing features, but I don't think Antares belongs in the performance catamaran space.
@@jackm3040 Well, the Antares are not performance boats. They are the PDQ cat design.
Thank you for sharing this new story we missed you......
I think it's going to be the Seawind 1370. Anybody want to bet? It almost sounds like you guys are describing this boat point by point.
Most are betting on the HH or OC44. I know nothing so can't say myself.
I was in contact with Seawind last year about building an all electric 1370 and they told me that they wouldn't do it. I hope that they changed their position on that, we'll just have to see? I was looking for a diesel Genset to assist the battery bank when needed. They poo-poo-ed the idea.
@@scarletbegonias2359 That's a bummer; hopefully they will change their mind!
Hello, fellow Ruby Rose fan!
SV Delos:
How about an electric combo washer/dryer and that satellite wifi dome.
Hope everything goes well with final signing and you get what you want. And sale of your current boat.
I think it's a Windelo too, good spot.
@@LLurk3r out of all the mentions here, windelo seems to be the better match =) also, none of the HH mentions got a heart ;D
Hi do ya both gotta Catamerameranpicked out n it got most or all the 10 features on ur list do ya No when ur getting the Curiosity II, KEEP INTOUCH k....
An opportunity to encourage more sustainability and innovation - this is awesome!!! Yall are awesome!!!
Silent Yachts are quite impressive from the sustainability and self reliance perspectives
We're looking forward to the journey of you guys getting your new boat.
Ohhhh so exciting!! What a fun time! Innovation!
It’s absolutely an HH44, it’s a new model, and there isn’t another boat that’s even close to this list. Especially the solar, battery capacity, electric everything and hybrid propulsion. So cool, can’t wait to see it!
Would seem like it
Quite possibly
I hope it isn't. I'm a massive fan of HH cats but probably the least environmentally friendly boat imaginable. I'm hoping it is a VAAN R5
Haha
Congratulations!!! You absolutely need a new boat. My guess is Sea Wind
Jason I agree, a separate and dedicated work area would be great. A workbench with a vise and grinder mounted on it. A drill press also and plenty of storage space for spare parts.
I think it's a Aquanima 45! Such a beauty!
I suspect the 1370 will be too heavy and no dagger boards, guessing it won't be very fast.
Seawinds are quite quick as they are light! Don’t overload it and watch it go!
What do you mean no more Silent 55!! 60 is way to big for 2 people. Have no desire for sails lol
@@Danellr007 Apparently S-Y wasn't selling enough of them, so they're concentrating on the larger versions. I _DO_ agree with you 100% though, I'd prefer the 55 but WITH their kite-sail option.
So good to hear, best of luck with the new home
I'm so excited for you guys ! ♥ It's everything I would like mine to be. I would also be happy to drop a few bucks somewhere to help you fund this marvelous baby :D
check out the Seawind sailboats or sailing Rubi Rose
Seems like the new HH44 might be an option if the cost is in line
I was thinking the same thing. The hh oc 44 sounds like what they want, not sure about the work bench, but everything else is there.
@@michaelrauch8340 I don't think it would be too much of a problem to convert the forward starboard bed into a little work shop
I have been watching that, too. Can’t wait to see the end result
Probably too heavy and too slow to make the performance category. No dagger boards. They don't do electric?
Good job guys. Can't wait to hear more.
Those solar Cat's are yummy. I can't wait to see this new boat and get the full tour. Happy shopping!
I recently did a "what is your dream boat survey" and your boxes are same as mine...45" electric cat with solar and regen...rain capture is something I did not have but it makes sense...looking forward to your big reveal..,if ever in Barbados give me a shout!
Excellent episode. You are an extraordinary couple and your checklist of ten is helpful .
Last I check it was a 2 year wait list for a HH, hopefully yours is sooner. Hoping to get one myself in a few years, can't wait to see yours.
Great list. Thank you!
It’s really amazing you want that solar and sustainability.
This project will make your channel even more interesting, looking forward to this, very interesting!!!
Look I’ve your well thought out requirements for your new Boat! Hats off to you . Big fans
Funny just been having a similar conversation regarding buying a MH in Europe... none of the brands are offering a decent solar package with Lithium and induction cooking.... just a few token solar panels with old school batteries..
Looking forward to see where you are going!
Your list made a lot of sense. Sometimes businesses are scared to change. Maybe after your video some of them will see the light.
Very well thought out and can't wait for the reveal ! Please do say you are getting a water maker though ?
Well no matter what I say it has been said. How exciting, it is really cool to be on this adventure with the both of you. I forgot about how messed up this rock is right now, you give many of us hope. Thanks so much. Trust me when I say your journey is more about sailing!
Thank you guys. I'm really happy for you. The priority list is top notch. HE doesn't think your wimps ever! My heroes.
You are getting a silent 44 boat fantastic l love to see it
