Playing with Lester regularly I can see his ups and downs at first hand . He is improving round by round and I think by the end of the summer his goal of scratch will be achieved . Watching him play is also improving my game as I'm now down single figures 8.9 . Keep it up mate . Enjoyed the video again . 👍👍🏴 See you Wednesday morning
That 5 wood is going to be a weapon in your mission for scratch mate. You can actually see it in your swing that you love using it. Very impressed with the Bullard style of chipping. Could be the difference 👍
I dont think you can underestimate how much the conditions/weather has an effect on ones ability. I notice it at my hacker level so someone like you would, I'd imagine, notice it even more.
Hey Lester, not a fan of golf, but I do quite enjoy watching your videos. Does make it seem more interesting watching a journey of trying to achieve a goal and the effort that goes into it rather than people just swinging a club at a little ball.
Barney I would be thrilled to have a round like that. I don’t think you do yourself any favours by going over all.the negatives.Stay positive and good things will happen.😊
The more I play this game the more I'm convinced that your performance can be influenced by things we are hardly aware of - the state of your central nervous system, your emotional place, how much sleep you've had, your mood etc. There's NO WAY your skills can evaporate overnight. Great video Bernie - I'd love to see a series about pre-qualifying for The Open. GOOD LUCK 😅😊
@@berniebarnesgolf My thoughts entirely mate. We will have to give a bit of time to the new coach as the squad has been decimated by Moyes. Your golf is looking a lot better than you think. Keep it going. Take care. 👍😄⚒️⚒️⚒️
I watched Peter Finch play Harrington a couple of days ago and Podrick gave him a good talking to about attitude and how good a golfer you need to be trying to play with a bad attitude. Give it a watch. Sometimes it’s great to try to get between your own ears.
Sometimes those rounds when the swing feels like an unfolded lawn chair, yet you put a score together, are the most satisfying! Any chance coach Jamesy would be able to go on the course with you for a few holes to watch your swing? (I know he’s busy)As we know it’s very different hitting balls into a screen with no consequence. Thanks for the update!
Good video. The problem is all golf courses are playing much longer ie harder than what one may suspect in the summer. I suspect in the summer months you will get down to scratch - or even plus
The 6th hole at Churston is 466 yards Par 4 and the last month or so I haven’t been able to reach it in regulation David! So I sort of get what you mean.
Good or not good to see a Gareth siting. Even the top pros go through a down spell. Just the ebb and flow of golf, for the most part it drives us crazy
Golf is a funny game, I played 3 rounds recently, normal score the first round, 5 under my normal on the second, and 15 shots over my normal score on the last 😳. Conditions were similar so the only variable was me😎. I never get sad about a poor round because the next time could be really good. Better luck next time 😎
Good stuff Bernie. Cheered me up after my lot bring so crap last night 😂. Jimmy Bullard uses that claw grip to some effect! Keep at it. You’re a good player. Realize it.
Bernie do not be too tough on yourself. Your Nemesis was chipping which is now very solid and the rest of your. game looks very solid so it is all positive mate !!
The new course ratings don’t help either! My index is 1.5 and pre April my playing was 2. Since April it’s +1!!! The course hasn’t changed, neither have any others I play yet I now have to shoot under par to have a chance! (And being over 50 to boot!!)
Swing tempo still looks great, like the chipping idea and it's working as is the armlock - golf is hard but I think you will be down to scratch sooner than you think especially if we get to play in some dry weather - keep up the great work.
Hi Lester, you played really well. You are hard on yourself sometimes but saying that, your standards and goals are much higher than mine. I have to say, the greens at Churston look absolutely fabulous, a credit to the green staff. Was that your pal Gareth Jones playing with you? Gareth from Wales 🏴 ?
Use the new system to your advantage mate. Go and play some harder courses off the tips and concentrate on hitting fairways and greens. If most of your scores are at home you’ll no doubt be following the same pattern each round so likely to score similarly. My son was playing the Lansdowne at Blairgowrie yesterday off the blues and shot +10 but with the adjustments he was given a score differential of 6.3.
Good on ya Bernie keep the positive going it’s so easy to get ourselves down. I’ve known myself get my handicap down in the winter but we’ve not really had good weather this year,it’s like it’s done nothing but rain since last October lol. My concentration has been on striking the ball well through the times I’ve managed to play, and generally it’s been pretty good. My chipping and putting needs some work. This week I’m out every day till Friday so lots to look forward to. Anyway Bernie keep up the good work and hopefully we will both get what we want going forward 😮
Cheers David and I am staying positive! Got a tough couple of weeks with counting scores being knocked off, but then some “free hits” to hopefully get it back down! Good luck with your journey!
I like how the ball is coming off your putter now, with the armlock putter. Lester. Full swing stuff....I can see you are taking the club to the inside on your takeaway...the clubhead is getting behind your hands too early, and when the shaft gets level to the floor.. you have it pointing right of the target line. Get the shaft pointing parallel to target line when it is level to the floor. This is also where the shaft should be pointing in the downswing and release as well. ** Whenever the shaft is level to the floor, it should be parallel to the target line. ** This gets the swing on plane, and the plane is aligned to the target line. @@berniebarnesgolf Well keep up that short game focus. That will get you more mileage than anything else. I have no issues with your claw grip chipping. LOL Your full swing is already good, or you wouldn't be at a 1 hcp. I know you want to get into the + side though, so that's why I offer up some of the small detail things I see. Cheers Lester..
I won't discuss anything else... as just sorting that *Shaft parallel to target when shaft is level to floor* ...will cause some small changes in your swing as your body will re-organize itself slightly...and the other things may sort themselves on their own.
2 is still a very good handicap Lester, keep plugging away, the claw grip on your chips looks like it could be a game changer. Up to 3.6 here, started the year 2.8 🙈🙈
As a Chelsea fan I will not mention the last weeks footie, oops, I think you need to start playing way more aggressive stuff, nit safe, we all have free hits, so go for it, no Moyes golf, too defensive when its not the way forward, regards Fraser
Hey Bernie, I just watched your video and I must say that it was really informative and well-made. I was wondering if I could help you edit your videos and repurpose your long videos into highly engaging shorts? I can also make high CTR thumbnails for your channel
I’m having the high handicap equivalent of you at moment just keep having bad holes can’t seem to get a round together up to 22. Want to get down to sub 18 sort of 16 ish
