I'm brand new to GMRS and bought the "2 pack" with extras a few weeks ago. Very pleased with them. Using the short antennas I was easily getting a mile in a hilly/trees/ton of houses area. With longer antennas, I went 2+ miles and wife thought I was a few blocks away.! Learning line of sight and hight is might are very important. Great 1st radio. 🙂
I'm new to gmrs and got the 2 pack a few weeks ago. I used the longer antenna and had clear conversation with my wife, who was 8 miles away. I purchased 2 extended folding antennas and had very clear conversation with wife who was at home 21 miles away.
Good review. I own multiple Baofeng models and I do wish they would stick to a consistent battery standard so I don't have to have a crate full of different chargers.
Just bought a uv17 pro gps. Fully unlocked. Love it. I really dont know why i would want to buy less for same money. BTW, no license is required for gmrs in Canada. Love the air band monitor. Thanks for a great channel.
Just FYI…. The speaker mic port cover will pull off, it has a rubber peg that is mushroomed out on the end. I take mine on and off. Also, I have found the best way to get it out of the way for intermittent use is to rotate it 180 degrees and turn the flap down. Good video, thank you!
I’m not sure about the 5RM but I know for a fact that on the AR-5RM it didn’t have to be “unlocked” and I’m able to transmit on Ham, GMRS, MURS and not that I ever would but I could also transmit on NOAA channels.
Being that the red menu text is so hard to see, I had to use the factory software to program repeaters. Being used to CHIRP, I found the factory software clunky. I would concur that this radio is good for simplex users. It's a pain for repeater users.
Hello. There are 2 battery upgrades available for that chassis. One is the same length, but thicker to the back, and theres an 6800mAh extendo. It is labeled SUPER ENERGY on the front. My 5RH Pro Max GPS came with the extended battery from the factory.
I just saw one of these radios that was operating in 2 meter and 70 cm and surprisingly it looked pretty clean across both bands on the spectrum analyzer.... How the person did this is unknown... As far as I knew the UV-5G Plus was Locked up tight ?? Must have changed something in the firm or software, I really do not know. Thank You for all of your videos... Helpful and Honest...
I accidentally locked myself out of the uv5rm radio with the power on password function, is there a reset to get back into the radio if I forgot the password?🤔
I just purchased this radio and have some questions as to how to store repeater information. Do you have to use the "repeater channels" for them? We have some repeaters that are on the same frequency but use different tones. How do you store them and where?
Noob here, why will sft-d not set on my radio? It allows me to arrow down to plus, but I can't seem to select it. I press the menu button to confirm and it stays on off. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I knew and had the same problems. The only conclusion I could figure out was you have to do it in frequency instead of channel mode. But yeah you said it and when you back out it goes right back to off. Anybody have an answer for that
I would like to buy several radios, 5 or 6, not very expensive and powerful enough 5W minimum to go skiing with my friends. Which model can you advise me, at Baofeng or other, to have quality at a low price?
From my limited knowledge but lots of research yes I would go with this brand for sure better than anything at Walmart from my knowledge. There are a couple other GMRS radios around this price but for a cheap non weather proof this is the best you can get.
You really sound intelligent enough to discern 😂 Do you even have a call sign because you strike me as the kind of turd who couldn't even navigate the website to register and be functional.

it worked flawlessly. It runs as if it was intended to work like this tbh
First! 😂😂
Seriously glad to see you back after 2 weeks off. Was starting to worry.

Yeah, that red text was a horrible idea.

Could the red menu issue be addressed by Baofeng in a firmware update?
are you able to disable the PTT? I connected it to Chirp but was unable to find it. Thank you

Have you considered looking at the Ailunce HA1G?
Thank you James. Just picked one up today

Coming from an AR-152 I already thought the 5G plus was a baby. The UV-5R must be small enough to fit on a wrist watch band 😂
Try Chirp for GM-5RH
That's what I did as well and it worked great.
Did that give the radio the ability to transmit on other frequencies like murs or ham?
Does Specter Gear make a pouch for this one yet? Or will it fit in the UV17 pouch?
It fits into the same pouch as the UV-17R. We will have a specific model number in a day or two.
is it a clean Radio or is there all sorts of other Frequencies being spread across the spectrum? Seems nice thou. :) Thanks for the Video

@@MrSabram07 yep, that was the problem..it has to be in frequency mode. Thank you!

Baofeng UV-9G if you want the water resistance. Same or similar price.
@@adamreynolds8270 Do you know the differences between UV9R and UV9G ?
Thank you, Scott :-) I need all the help I can get.
Now works with chirp
Not half bad............not a resounding endorsement!
That's about right and mostly correct.
Seems like a clone of Radtel rt-470 housed in a Baofeng casing. Same screen, same functionalities. And no GPS. Useless.
Scott who cares about comparing it with the uv-5r get down to the meat of the radio please😮
New Baofengs are hot garbage.
