Congrats again man on the build!! All that work and it payed off lots of hours in the garage building this monster. Thanks for bringing me along to see its full potential now for some Saturday night trolls 😈😈😈 welcome to gapplebees will you be eating gapperoni tonight?
Thanks for coming! It was so helpful to have you there and thanks again for helping film! Saturday night trolls, coming up!

"It sounds like a V8 with a turbo on it."
*hmm yes the floor here is made out of floor*
DirtbikeTherapy 😂😂😂💯
Haha! I had to leave that in when I was editing Eric's footage. LOL
😂😂 I didn't even notice that
Makes me happy seeing a 2v Triton being boosted not to many videos on these trucks!
David Madrigal.......... I wonder why?
@@seancarraher Clicked view reply specifically expecting to see this comment. They arent exactly bad engines but there's just so many other better options for performance I don't see why you'd use one. And it's a 3v @David Madrigal that's why it's called the Triton.
Anonymous Anonymous that generation is a 2v I own a 99 5.4 that’s a 2 valve they didn’t introduce a 3v until 2004 for the next generation. Even the lightning was just a 2v
@@smbuckeye I thought the 2v was made in Windsor before Ford made a modular factory?
@@anonymousanonymous9991 97-03 was 2v. 04-08 was 3v. 09-14? was 4v. Then they went back to 5.0
Sweet setup! I have a 2001 Mustang Bullitt with a single turbo kit. Made 418rwhp 489rwt on 10 psi. All stock engine, trans, and rear end. It went 10.7 @ 127 mph
Btw if not already, make sure to put a high volume oil pump in that thing it’ll save the motors top end
The 2V engines do not need the high-volume/high-pressure oil pump like the 3V engines. XW-20 oils are not good for any of the Modular engines either and any mechanic that knows these engines will suggest synthetic 5W-30 in colder regions and a synthetic 10W-30 in the southern States. -20 weight oils are for CAFE, not for long term engine protection.
@@BlownF150 my 4.6 has 240k miles running 5w-20. Runs strong but that's about it. Everything else is sloppy as hell except that 4.6
@@StupidDummyIdiot It's adequate oil, but 5W-30 and 10W-30 is better
5w-20 in my NPI as recommend by Ford. If you look at how the lash adjuster collapses and stiffens with oil temp and pressure, you'd understand why they call for the oil they do. They effectively function as variable duration lash adjusters allowing more "slack" at lower oil pressure and when hot. This means it's not fully multiplying lift and duration from the follower to the valve unless it sees the right oil pressure to the lash adjusters. Unless you've swapped to a near solid lash adjuster like gt500/GT units, you really don't need to run higher viscosity oils. As for oil pumps, the billet gears they sell are a good option if your seeing 7500+Rpm every shift. Otherwise a oem oil pump is more than adequate.
I been running 20/50 Valvoline racing in my 97 4.6 f150 since 08 when I bought it lol. Quited the chains right up, and doesn't eat oil hardly at all. I'm guessing it's over 300k miles, as it had the defective odometer gears that broke. 5w oil is a joke.
Id be way more excited about the 500 plus torque than the 400 hp
100% I can't believe how much torque this thing puts out now!
Absolutely 👍 these older 5.4s have always made awesome torque for what they were.
Stock truck cams are always going to make more torque but it was was making like 300 torque and 400 hp it would be completely different
@@james10739 you know the 4.6 and 5.4 have the same heada and cams right? Whether its from a truck, crown vic, explorer or mustang
Thats the beauty of the 5.4s, 350ft-lbs, only like 20ft-lbs shy of a gen1 coyote. Theyre just torquey engines.
@@james10739 Cams are same as the Pi 4.6 engines
Ryan congrats, f**k the horsepower dude that thing is laying down huge torque numbers. You should feel proud, nice build bro!!
Thanks man! I couldn't believe how much tq Gramps cranked out! Didn't see that coming.
Torque is more fun on the street then horsepower
Congrats to you both, a labor of love for sure. I'm sure that truck feels like a monster on the street with 600+ lb-ft of torque! Makes me want to supercharge my 3v 5.4L....
Thanks! It was a fun learning process for me. And Gramps is no slouch now, that's for sure!
Congrats man, a big part of the reason you are making 404hp on only 8.8lbs is dues to the fact that you opened up the exhaust so much, stock manifolds and exhaust on these trucks are stupid restrictive
The snaps and pops while the engine is slowing down makes me giggle 😂 well done, everyone.
Your vids are great! Please don't change. When youtubers get big their content changes to stuff that is unrealistic for normal people. Also that 5.4 sounds great!
Thanks for the kind words David!
Great content bro I always knew these tritons had some great potential with the right builders! Congrats bro! Just recently subscribed and definitely can’t wait for more content!
Thanks Alex! We stopped there to save the stock internals, but it had more in it!
There was a time when tire shops were overwhelmed with flat tire repairs due to Triton spark plugs in the road.......
🤣
Over 208 thousand never lost one on the road.
Haha! This is my favorite so far!
@@KingMullet69 01 screw with 275k miles and not one launched. . . . 01 lightning with 160k and it spit its first one at 156k on the expressway lmao.
2v triton doesn’t have this problem usually a lot more common on the 3v triton motors
I love these triton engines. So much low end torque.
It put down more torque than I was expecting!
@@AutoDetour I know. That was pretty impressive!
Congrats man I have the same truck same color and I’ve been on the edge just waiting to see this video 👍🏼💪🏼
Thanks Chris!
Yo this is dope no one ever turbos a Ford F-150 with a 4.6 or 5.4 everyone is always slapping them on a LS although I’m a GM guy I admire this 👌
Thanks man!
You’re welcome!
There is this myth that they magically break if you turn 400 hp to the wheels lol. There are many people who have went well above 400 for a good while racing them and they stay together. Andrew from mustang lifestyle had a turbo bullit doing like 418/489 to the tire bone stock driveline and went 10.7 at 127. The 2v isn't as worthless as its made out to be lol. It's all in the tune and using good fuel etc.
I'm so happy for you Ryan. We have all been waiting for Dday since you announced the project. I really hope I can slap a turbo on my 02 in the next couple years. Way to go!
Thanks Greg! It was amazing to see it all come together and actually work! LOL Can't wait to hear about yours when the time comes!
Sweet! What is especially impressive to me is doubling power output without doubling atmospheric pressure. Great job
Same here! Nice to make the power without having to throw a ton of PSI at it!
There was a little voice in my head screaming, “TURN IT UP!!!!” But I imagine the truck feels pretty rowdy now and should hold up great.
P.S. The voices in my head never tell me to do the reasonable thing! Lmao
Gale Banks: Boost gauge is dead to me
10 years ago, Mark Lancaster was involved in turbo kits and tuning for 2V F150's and Expeditions and did the initial tuning on my Procharged 2000 5.4L F150. His 67mm Garrett-based kit made 421hp/535lb-ft on 8 psi, hope you've got a good PCV catch can setup because these engines need it.
Cool! That's good info. I do have a catch can installed.
@@AutoDetour His old website still exists: i-disappear.com/turbotime.htm Lots of great pictures of the kit from so long ago, might have saved you a little time at one point.
Congratulations man, what a PROCESS! I want to do this to my 98 2v navigator...I'm so happy for you.
Thank you! That would be awesome in an old Navi. Haha!
Congratulations 🎉🎉🎉👏👏👏👍👍👍 I loved the possessed hood light 🤣🤣🤣
Haha! It really is possessed! Thanks Joe!
Man, I loved this!! Thanks for taking the time to film this and post the build
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I've been waiting for this. Incredible build. I plan on starting my turbo build this spring. Congratulations
Thanks man!
Awesome! Starting the video now, can't wait to see these results. Have been following Faithfully since day one. I'm the proud owner of a 2003 F150 SuperCrew Lariat with, in my opinion, the greatest engine Ford ever built. The 5.4 L 2 valve
Thanks Kyle! The 2v definitely is way better then the 3v that followed.
I'm not sure if you'll remember me but I commented a while ago to see the channel grow and it has ever since and hope to see it grow way more
I do Kevin! And I appreciate the support!
Auto Detour no problem hope to see it grow way more
Awesome job! Nice build. Now, line em up and take their money.
Thanks! The need to race someone is strong now!
This is awesome!!!!! Any drivetrain mods that you plan on doing? Should do a cost breakdown that be awesome!
Thanks! I suspect I will have to upgrade the transmission and torque converter sometime soon. I will be doing a total cost of build video very soon. Thanks for watching!
My good friend in his passing just gave me his 2003 f150 xlt 5.4 triton extended cab 2 door truck. I have over 30 years wrenching and building and turning performance engines both turbo and non turbo. Idea air fuel mixtures for power is 12.5 to one old school. Now I have seen 12.9 to one. The 11 is just wasting fuel. I have reprogrammed my Subaru 2008xt to run 12.5 to one from 3000 rpm to 6500 rpm. Also old school turbo books show 100% power gains over stock output at 10 lbs boost.
Ordered a shirt before finishing the video. love this gen F150 its a hard one to kill in stock form. Had a 7 lug F250 with 360k miles. When they came out I thought they were ugly but they tend to grow on you.
Dude! Thank you! Yes, the 10th gens have a certain charm to them. LOL
that was a blast!! i'm happy for you Ryan, this is paying off huge, at only 8 lbs. you have a sleeper on your hands brother, excellent job.
wonder which will be faster, s10 or f150, or will the viper still rule.
Thanks Jon! Seems like some scientific experiments are in order....
Jon W Nice hp and torque numbers but that a/f ratio was at 16.1 on idle. As long as he doesn’t expect it to get decent mpg, grandpa will be happy.
i think Ryan is looking for smiler per gallon lol
That truck is gonna get you into some trouble! Congrats!
Probably
This build is pretty cool and I’m not a truck guy but I like seeing sleepers of any kind
Thanks man! It's been a fun project.
I did not expect that. Awesome! 400 to the rear wheel
That’s some stump pulling boost.
Great video! That damn hood light bugs me lol
Haha! It's sending for help in Morse code
@@AutoDetour lol, I didnt even think of that. The best part is when the turbo spools all the way up and the light cuts out, kinda cool. Take a look
Dang, I’m gonna assume this is on a stock long block...and say that’s pretty impressive. My lightning wouldn’t make that on 8psi and I’m sure I’ve got tons more invested. Good job and congrats. Btw, you’ve gained a new subscriber!
Thanks Micah! Yes. Completely stock block. That turbo seems to move a lot of air!
Yea that entire build/turbo kit is proving to be really efficient. I’d like to see what I would be capable of on e85. Either way, you’ll love your new found power. Smiles per gallon alone are worth what you’ve put into it.
I'm not a dodge guy but I did like this dodge guy.
Haha! Eric's a good dude!
Nice you beat a stock lightning that's awesome that thing is a torque monster
thomas hixson he beat a stock lighting flywheel hp at the rear wheels lol
A stock lightning would MURDER this thing
David Sanchez huh?
Ryan Bethel i don’t think so and it would be more apples to apples comparing it to supercharged Harley truck
Ryan Bethel lmao not a chance of a stock Lightning coming near this in the 1/4
Hell yeah brother. Woke the beast up!
Awesome build. I've had 3 5.4L's and I loved them...except for the spark plug shitting deal.
nice my friends cobra made 800whp on that dyno, casey is the man when it comes to the ford tuning.
Congrats on the build! I have been watching from day 1! I have a 2003 f150 5.4 4r100 tranny with the 10.25"rear end (7lug) thats what brought me to your channel. Im also thinking if doing a similar setup since my 5.4 doesnt burn a drop of oil and has only 70k miles. Engine should be strong enough to handle 5psi of boost but I guess we will find out with yours. If you can beat 13.5 sec on the 1/4 mile you will be faster than a stock lightning! Thank you soo much for filming and bringing us along for the ride! Looking forward for more to come! I gotta get one of those "make 10th gens great again shirts. Awesome idea!
Thanks Darren! 70k and a 4r100?! Beefier than mine! Oh it would definitely handle 5 psi, but would you put in all that work for only 5 psi? LOL And yes, grab a shirt. Ford guys love em! LOL
@@AutoDetour Ya you are right! Its a lot of work for only 5psi! Are you gonna keep the boost at 8.8psi like on the dyno or bring it down for peace of mind? Such an awesome build but Im guessing im gonna need north of 10k for the kit and all the other goodies u need for boost. Building a full garage this upcoming year so soon I will be ready to wrench! Im trying to not drive it much this winter since I'm in the mountains of mon cadcades north of Ottawa and the salt is killer up here! I noticed you seem to have wintery weather where you are...so does that mean its parked for most of the winter? Thanks very much for the reply! Very inspired by your work and channel! And yes I will definitely pick up one of those shirts! Thx again Ryan. Excited to see more content!!!
Awesome video series and you have had a great attitude through the whole build I look forward to seeing what else you have planned for it.
Thanks for the kind words Brad! It should be fun!
Double the stock power like nothing lol
Right away I knew this was hi tech it’s where I take my truck!
I did a mustang with this engine and a 76mm Precision Turbo. Made about 900 hp on E10 93 octane. Ran 5.99@117 eighth with 3.27 gears and never turned over 5600 RPM. OH, factory computer I tuned.
2003 5.4L don't have issues with spark plugs shooting out of the head btw. They updated the head design in 2002 I believe.
Correct. I like messing with people though. LOL! Thanks for watching!
I have a 2001 f150 super crew 4x4.
That’s pretty cool! Now I want to boost mine lol
Nice job! Not many boosted 5.4 2v F150’s out there!
What’s up with the blinky hood light…lol!?
This is really badass I’ve been keeping up with the videos been anxious about it lol glad you got it done I got a project as well coming up I’ll do a video it’s gonna be a Lightning swap on a 97 Expedition
Thank you AJ! An expy with a lightning swap would be fun!
Spark plugs are still in the head for now. Lol
Hater
Yeah that's with the 3v.. idiot
Just say you didn’t install them right , I’ve owned nothing but 2v Tritons and none have ever gave me that problem
@@oxr88exactly, it’s poor installation and neglect on why they come out . Granted there isn’t much threads but it can be done easily and correct.
now do it again with the Triton v10
One of those with a big cam and worked heads with a twin turbos would make some serious grunt
The torque will be insane. That’s my plan for my v10
Reason why the Triton V10's don't get power adders is due to the weakness of the split journal crankshaft.
BlownF150 Bingo.
@@BlownF150 and they like to blow the spark plugs clean out of the head
Just bought a 2006 f250 5.4 3 valve i believe (new to the tru k game. Always loved cars and trucks. But my focus was on cars.. so im still learning. Taking a shot at building a truck. And loving it so far.) I wanted a diesel but all the ones i found in my price range were beat. Tgen i found a pretty good deal on this 5.4. Pretty low miles. Minimal rust. Frame solid. And had a lot of work done. So i scooped ut. I would love to boost her. And just get a bit more out of her.
All the work finally paying off. congrats !!
Thank you!
@@AutoDetour i know how you can secure the cold air tube. I'll send ya a pic of mine
Hello there! I have a 5.4 triton 2001 f150 lariat super crew. Bought it in 01 with 30k miles. It has 203k miles on it. Only work was replacing broken exhaust manifold bolts. Great truck. Still runs great. Do you think the engine would handle this turbo? What cost am I looking at. Thanks man.
I drive a 99 Ford expedition with the 5.4 and a couple mods I love it been thinking about doing a turbo grate job
Dude. That was awesome. I’m new to the channel. What all did you do to the truck. I have an 03 Lariat 4x4. I need more ho and torque. Really a super cool build.
I like the 2 v in a boosted application. It's a good strong runner anyway
This video was awesome!
Sorry if u answered this already but what kind of turbo/size/Ar are u using? Also are u using 42lb injectors? Thanks!!!
Thanks Justin! It's a 76mm turbo with a .81A/R. I'm using 60lb Deatchwerks injectors.
This really got me thinkin
You got my dream truck right there lol.
Awesome Congrats. Good to see it finally running. Whats the plan next? Forged rods block and turn it up :) GO enjoy it for a while. Will we see it on the track next? 1/4 times. FYI in researching the lightnings it seems in 03 they fixed the plug issue (mine is 02 :( and my build just got delayed by a 535i project. If I ever get to editing videos coming.
Thanks man! Next I'm just gonna have some fun with it and make videos about how it performs. Gotta get some 0-60 and 1/4 mile numbers for sure! You are correct, the '03 had the updated heads. That's why I give people a hard time about the spark plug thing. I will stick with the stock motor and have some fun with that, and once it's time to upgrade, I'll have to put some forged internals in it and crank up the boost!
Congrats man 407/523 on single digit boost is way impressive. I’d like to see a pic of the dyno sheet to see where the torque comes in. My super crew needs some help in the tq department for sure
Cheaper and safer to just gear it down to help out the low end.
Thanks man! Definitely woke it up!
Gearing down is nothing compared to having over 500 tq down fairly low lol. I mean gearing Def helps but this is a totally different animal here.

Nice woodwork on the ceiling in the hallway. Nice rack also. Good torque on that! Gives me hope for my Crown Vic I'm gathering parts for now. It is stroked to 5.0L now, hopefully I can get close to 5 bills torque out of it.
D-Day has come finally! Congrats! Curious on what the final cost of the build was. How does the 4r70w handle the power?
I thought the Crew Cabs came with either the E4OD or 4R100. I know my friend’s 02 has the E4OD/4R100. Maybe it was different for the earlier trucks. The number specifies the Torque it can handle. 70=700 ftlbs 100=1,000. The 5R55 in the explorers was 550ftlbs for example.
If it is the 4R70W it can handle what they’re throwing at it.
fuji302 4r100s were in the Lightning’s, harleys, f250 gas burners and the 7lug 150s I believe. E40d was 9th gen f series. I had a 95 F-150 in high school that had the e40d.. e40d-electronic, 4 speed overdrive.
Who’s turbo kit?
If this isn't a loaded dyno, you won't get accurate numbers (they will be low). The turbo needs a load to spool properly. Just something to consider if you didn't know.
I don't know if it is a loaded dyno or not, but I know it doesn't load it nearly as much as the weight of the truck does on the street. I have to turn the boost controller way down so I don't hit that 9.1 psi boost cut on the street.
Congratulations my guy , it sounds amazing time for mustang cam and cylinder heads lol
Thank you! When it's time for the stock motor to go, we'll build one and turn up the boost!
I love how the under hood light kinda acts as an inverse shift light. Lol
well done.
Should be fun. I'd like that kit on my 86 Silverado. Has 454 bbc in & built 700R4. Just needs boost. U should be in 12s or less in 1/4 if u can hook up the tires. Have ya done 1/4 mile yet ? Merry Christmas brother.
Awesome! Heck of a build!
That is fricken awesome bro congrats!!!!! 👌👍💯😎
Thanks man!
I'm very impressed. I may swap to turbo now from Supercharger. I need to watch this again.
Haha! Lots more power with less boost. 🤘
This is awesome! Is it a stock 2v motor?
Thanks! Yes, completely stock.
How can I find the kit you used?
I'm loving it man keep it up, possibly race somone in the future??
Thanks! and yes! We will definitely be racing some people. LOL
Bad ass 10th gen my favorite f150
I always wanted to build a 5.4L, but a 32 valve (4v) from a navigator and put it in a mustang and turbo it.
Been done many times. It makes power like hell
There's a guy near me selling a built 5.4 4v out of a navigator because he's going coyote. Engine hasnt been ran after being built
contact Edge Brothers in Jacksonville, NC they built 5.4's for the Ford Lightening drag series...
Hey. If you don't mind me asking, what injectors are you running? I'm thinking about the same kit on my 02 this winter. It doesn't like pulling the boat very well and I'd like to get more power outta it. Lol
Hey Josh! Mine are 60lb Deatschwerks injectors. If you are planning to run only 8-10lbs of boost you could probably get away with 42lb Lightning injectors.
Awesome! Thanks brother!
Damn got more hp than my 6.7 lol
Good job nice clean installation
Ford power 💪
pretty impressive, more power than a stock naturally aspirated 5.3 LS!
What? Lol. This thing is doing over 400 hp and 500 tq to the tires man it has WAY more power than a stock 5.3 and almost double the torque remember were talking WHEEL hp here.
Did you do anything with the cams at all or they still Factory cams cheap way to get some decent cam is to look in a 2008 E350 had the largest cams Ford ever put in a 2v modular
Still the stock cams. I did not know that about the E350. I'll have to look into that.
Just started watching but man have I been waiting
Thanks for following along!
Stock engine? Impressive numbers!
Yep! Stock motor with 107k original miles.
@@AutoDetour thats awesome to know, i just picked up a 02 navi 5.4 engine for my mustang, was hoping i could make decent power without the added expence of internals.
Well done mate
Those are some nice numbers. Kinda wish I went turbo now.
That's dope man!!! Great work!!
Thanks!
Killer chiller
Makes me want to turbo mine
Sounds Great!!
Those engines were oil burners, as soon as soon as you hear lifter tik shes pretty well done especially with that boost, my truck blew up cuz it was losing oil pressure because of all the oil escaping thru the front main seal into the chain case and then she dropped a valve right thru piston number 5 and took out everything in the bottom end too, it was pretty bad, but like someone else said on here, keep checking the oil and put a hi volume oil pump, dry sump would work even better in all honesty, but great work man, this was my dream with my 10th gen stepside
ZNEC509 mines had a tick for the last 25k and I beat the piss out of it 🤷♀️
@@SkeletonManlover125 oh trust me mine was beat to hell and back too, I jumped it, I held her to the moon, set the rev limiter to 6 grand 4 low boost launches minus the boost, no back pressure, she burned all the oil in a matter of like 2 days and didnt keep up with it and the next day she had enough
The front crank seal is in the timing cover. If it pushed oil past the front crank seal, it would have poured all over the front of the engine and where ever you parked. These 2V engines (which do not have VCT) do not have oil consumption issues at all. They do have plug blow out issues if not maintained or checked periodically, but keep those in check and you will never have any issues..
@@caseywittmer4028 good to know, ya u pulled the plugs every so often a little blow by not horribly bad, but, I'm talking bout the chain cases there is something in there that allows oil to some how go thru, but even then I couldn't find a hole in the block when she blew but there was oil on the ground so maybe ur right I'm not to sure
Its a good flowing engine if youre pumping out twice the power at 9 psi of boost compared to 14.7 psi expected
Liked this video before it even started haha
There's hope for my 98 expedition!
I have the same truck just in turd brown, would love to know your rough cost for all equipment used if you wouldn't mind sharing?
I plan to put all that together for an upcoming video. Thanks for watching!
Damn thats badass!!
Great job 👏 add a intercooler.
Thanks! It has a front mount intercooler on it.
Nice! Great series!
