    • @shireads2954
      @shireads2954 Рік тому +42

      You're definitely not the only one. Though you should know, that there's only certain parts of a ballet that are like this. There's a sort of ballet pantomime that happens when one character is conveying information to another. The rest of the time, they're just dancing out what's happening. Here the nutcracker is telling one of the people they meet on their journey what happened to get them to where they are. But at the parts where this is actually happening, it wouldn't be that sort of defined move by move pantomime.

    • @annawaltz6849
      @annawaltz6849 Рік тому +28

      there’s also specific moves that mean certain things across all classical ballets (let’s dance, princess or queen, married, etc.). it’s sort of like ballet sign language!

      In the hour preceding the opera and ballet, the Opera House, offer lectures upon the subject of the night's performance - that specific great work. These lectures are free with the price of admission, even if you're doing a 7 dollar standing room ticket 🎫!!
      High art requires engagement and participation from the audience. The audience must become educated, in order to properly understand and appreciate the form. People wrongly assume that fine art is exclusive based on class, but it really isn't.
      If you're motivated, there are always cheap and free ways to attend/participate and learn. It's elite, in that having a full and true understanding requires you to develop a full body of knowledge on the subject, as well as literature, history, visual art, all of the art forms from music to plays, and at least a rudimentary/passing knowledge of the sciences, maths, physics, engineering, calculus, etc...how the world mechanically, physically works.
      But one doesn't need to have attained this level of erudition immediately, to enjoy the ballet, or any other high art. One very obviously, cannot. One amasses a body of understanding such as this over a decade to start, and then a lifetime truly. Thankfully, one can and should have the great pleasure of enjoying the form the entire time.
      It's simply that, as your understanding grows, so too will your enjoyment. You'll be shocked at all of connections you'll make, how they deepen the profundity of the meaning of what you've just watched, and your awe, disbelief at, and admiration for what the composer and choreographer had had the genius to have the foresight and virtuosic skill to actually have been able to spin into their magnificent loomwork, which would eventually become the stunning, complete and compelling tale, lain out before you, as a refulgent, gorgeous blanket of a thousand variegated tiny, blazing colors, all knotted into a cohesive whole.

    Jesus he did this beautifully. The light landings, the full finger awareness - and that quick "up" seemed physically impossible.

    Classical dance styles around the world are so similar. I am learning an Indian classical dance style called Odissi and some gestures are similar and the isolation of body parts for movement.

    The random steps thrown into the narrative flow is really tickling me 😂 also it's weird to have the realisation that people don't know that ballet can be super informative in this way (with gestures) bc I've grown up doing it - I just though people knew!

    I love it when people explain what the moves are saying. So many people don't realise that you're still telling a story in these shows. With my memory I can only ever remember the obvious ones though 😂😂
