It's crazy that this was 4 years ago and that Alex is a principal now, and Liam has found success as a choreographer and with his full length production of 'Frankenstein'! This should on DVD /Bluray if it's not already!!
This show is amazing. I love the character of the Mad Hatter, and incorporating him in with tap dancing really speaks volumes of his oddness. It looks incredibly demanding but extremely effective. This dancer ROCKS it.
I saw this ballet,I'm a classical dancer as well I first thought it was going to be a children thing (But I wanted so bad to see some Wheeldon piece) And when I saw the ballet I literally cried. Christopher Wheeldon is so talented
Wow I have never seen a taper like him outstanding!!! Also what makes it so great is the combination of ballet ,tap and some small parts of acro gymnastics !!!
🤣🤣🤣🤣 I was just going to suggest the same thing . Check out Steven Mcrea, (leading male dancer at The Royal Ballet. Brilliant tapper, ) he was Skimbleshanks the rzilwzyncT in the Movie CATS, and Australian born and originally trained up until about aged 17
Liam was not only a magnificent choriographer but such an expressive dancer as well. His postures were so elegant even during pauses and breaks. The part I enjoy most watching Liam coaching is when he demonstrates. He moves like no one else. You cannot erase him from the history ROH, it would be a crime.
I love the quality. The tap sound that goes with the music, and watching how the dancers control their body so well, performing difficult, quick steps so easily with artistic quality in their movement. Totally love it.
Can't you count past 8, as long as either stay in factor of 4s (8, 12, 16) or if the music a rare triplets count (3, 6, 9, 12). Waltz are usually were you come across them. As a former color guard, I actually preform to Waltz music with Waltz steps and learned how to drop spin the flag in an triplets. Super weird.
I am such a fan of Christopher Wheeldon's work. I saw Thirteen Diversions in Costa Mesa, Ca. and was stunned that so much complexity could coalesce into such power and grace....
Susan Brown not just his tap dancing but his acting. He was so expressive as the mad hatter. This guy just seems to be focusing on the moves. He’s still good though
I've been watching quite a few ballet rehearsals and these poor ballerinas are literally never good enough and yet they keep striving for perfection. I guess that's the job and they obviously find some sort of personal satisfaction trying to achieve these goals. Good for them!!! Mad respect!!!!
ROH - please consider reuploading the insights of Liam Scarlett's work that were previously removed. As a ROH fan, I understand the complicated nature of the takedowns and am so glad that you're creating an environment of believing and caring for your company that inspires accountability in the rest of the ballet world. With support for all of your dancers, I hope that the ROH can allow Scarlett's videos to be available for archival and memoriam purposes.
We LOVED the Simulcast of this ballet and we love seeing these rehearsals. Thank You so much!!!! This is so interesting and so much fun. ---Robert and Ying Roy....Ormond Beach, FL USA.
The mad hatter as a tap dancer was based on Steve McRae already being a proficient tap dancer so it was a bit of a risk as we can see here other dancers are going to have to fake it if they can’t already tap.
We'll have more videos featuring Christopher Wheeldon rehearsing very soon - if you haven't subscribed to our channel yet, make sure you do so you don't miss our upcoming videos!
[tap dances threateningly]
XDXD this is so descriptive of my friend XD
I love ballet and tap dancing
You say this like tap dancing in in of itself isn’t threatening

Mia H wow! How did you know about this! I want to follow them!
This has made me cry now 😢😅 I’m so happy for them
And Liam is dead mow😥
@@AminaKiniti good riddance, honestly
@@pipsqueak1079 Do you know what happened? I quick Google search told me he was accused of sexual assault before his death?? I had no idea.

I love the rhythmic element that the tap dancing adds to the music. It's so pretty
I'm not even a dancer, but i think Christopher Wheeldon is a phenomenal choreographer and a splendid visionary. Absolutely enjoy watching his works!
Why is no one talking about how absolutely adorable the guy with the curly hair is? Especially his lil smile at 5:46 made my heart melt
Liam ❤️❤️❤️
he’s so cute
Because we care more about the dancing?
@@atis9061 oh i see youre a special one
@@atis9061 And for the fact that he's left the company cause he was accused of sexual assault

That tap dancer tho!
Alexander is amazing
Wow I have never seen a taper like him outstanding!!! Also what makes it so great is the combination of ballet ,tap and some small parts of acro gymnastics !!!
you'd like czardas by McRae, another rb dancer. He was original mad hatter for the premiere of this ballet in the 2010/2011 season.
Check out Steve McRay - he is even better in the role :-)

Love, love, love the use of ballet, theatrics, and TAP!! Awesome. Wish I could see this live.
The positive energy of Mr. Wheelan is extraordinary! He obviously respects his dancers & colleagues.
I like how Alex kinda just taps away I like how Alex just taps out of frame at 8:20 hilarious😂😂😂😂
this ballet looks amazing!!! i wish i hadn't learned of its existance just today! it must have been outstanding
Christopher Wheeldon is a creative genius.
It's so inspirational to watch artists at work!
I love Christopher Wheeldon and watching all of the Royal Ballet videos. :)
She makes the movement look so effortless and graceful!
Tap dance is such a precise and delicate art form. Tap dancers have my full respect.
was anyone else a lil shook when he counted past 8... I’VE NEVER HEARD ANYONE COUNT PAST 8 THIS IS ILLEGAL

Wow! Awesome choreography! Christopher is just so cool to listen to. What an awesome experience it would be working with him.
"be sure you get your legs apart, so I can really get in there" I think, I wasn't sure about the last part
"So we both can get in there" lol
I really don't know why... but I love this video
I love watching this video. I watch it many times a year.
I am such a fan of Christopher Wheeldon's work. I saw Thirteen Diversions in Costa Mesa, Ca. and was stunned that so much complexity could coalesce into such power and grace....
Sorry but no one can be a better mad tapper than Steven McRae

a g r e e d
Oh shut up
I won't lie, for once Steven is a definite yes for that tapping.
Alex is still a good dancer though.
Well, the role was created for Steven, who already tap danced. Alex is was learning both.
There's a total west side story moment with the extension and finger snapping
Wow both Alex and Steve had the same role so proud of the Aussie boys
This ballet looks so much more fun than the usual classical performances. I want to watch!
OMG I've watched this loads and have only just realized that it was Liam Scarlett amazing so talented
I've been watching quite a few ballet rehearsals and these poor ballerinas are literally never good enough and yet they keep striving for perfection. I guess that's the job and they obviously find some sort of personal satisfaction trying to achieve these goals. Good for them!!! Mad respect!!!!
Ballet is one of those arts where perfection is nearly impossible but striving to be as close to perfection is what is how the art is appreciated❤❤
8:20 I don’t know why but this is really funny to me haha
I'm with you 😂😂
just the tap dances away!!!!!!!
I am officially in awe.
In this session, Beatrice seems to have a fear of falling or being dropped. It was wonderful to see all the dancers challenge themselves

Liam and Alex are amazing!! It's fun to watch!!
i'm so happy for James Hay! i'm a fan of Prix de Lausanne and i remember him being the best boy-candidat in 2007.
I love how they've incorporated tap into this production! :D
It works so well! :)
Too excited to see Beatrice as Alice this Christmas! I've been waiting for so long to see this ballet :D
When the hatter storms up to alice for his hat!! the additude!! the acting!! FABULOUS!! I literally went "Ohhh! big trouble!" at my phone lol.
Excellent dancing and acting

Is there a recording of the ballet with Beatriz as Alice because I would buy that in a heart beat

Beatriz Is Gone, Now
She was perhaps to Clever For the royal, Ballet
i dont know how many times i've watched this but i just love it so much!
Beatriz is GORGEOUS!!
They are rehearsing....and having a lot of fun.
fantastic! I love the combination of tap and ballet.
Amazing performance
He is indeed and an amazing tap dancer as well.
Gosh I love ballet, so glad I started taking classes last september!
i love the cake they jump on!
what a fun choreography and props!
For some reason I really like the lil duet the hatter and the hare do together
lima's amazing to watch, it's such a shame he doesn't perform anymore
They are amazing. Can't stop watching this...
This ballet was amazing, one of my favourites! :)
Wow! That one dude's turns are lightning quick!

Perfecto!. Have not seen anything better
this is so INCREDIBLE!
Playing for this rehearsal in Stockholm tomorrow. So much fun! 🎹🎹🎹
This looks like something I'd love to see.
Lovely! Wish I could see it live :)
I have zero dance experience, but I LOVE seeing the small (but also big?) changes based on feedback, like the sequence 9:52-10:45.
I loved.. This company!
In Brazil, Alice Adventury, in Dez... 2013! :)

I love watching this video because i am a dancer and i just love to dance!!
***** The most important aspect isnt even training! Its the need to dance. The feeling you can get within a second of movement to the music...
Rebecca Yates me two my dance school is doing Alice in wonderland the ballet and I'm the dormouse just it's a bit different
Mad Hatter is a genius here i am in love
I saw the National Ballet of Canada present this in Los Angeles yesterday and it was AH-MAZ-ZAH!!
Inspiring to watch the development process... 'Details make perfection, and perfection is not a detail.'
wish i could see this! christopher wheeldon looks like a cool dude to work with.
Can't wait. Going to see this at the cinema tomorrow in Shetland.
Congratulations to all the company for the hard work.
you do realise all pro dancers are trained in about 2-3 different styles. so he proably already knows how to tap just hasn't done it in a while
oh definitely, those turns he was doing are extremely hard in taps. he's a little out of practice maybe but still incredible
Who else likes watching rehearsals better than actual shows?
i want a pastry chair!
great work
the way they hold the girl in the jump is so lovely, like they are so careful of putting her down safely!
I wish I could have gone to see the production but I live in Ireland.
Nerdette M same here... I'm gonna buy the DVD * _ *
@@bitchette there a DVD?
Beatriz is adorable, I wanna hug her she's so cute
I love how this has no dislikes!
Can we take a minute to appreciate the piano player? Sounds like a very difficult variation up & down the scale.
this MUSIC.
so cool they have live pianists, it took me a second to realize they were cueing the musicians!! :) I guess that's the royal ballet though.
2018 anyone ??!!!
8 years late? Better than never.
This choreo is so entertaining
Why wasn't Liam the mad hatter? His dancing is so expressive n soulful such a tragedy hes not with us. RIP LIAM💜
I love Beatriz' sulk at 7:25ish :)
I think it was something along the lines of 'see if you can get your legs wider apart, so we can get in' or something like that... haha
That's really hard work.
I really wish I could see the full thing.
Oh my god is that Liam Scarlett dancing?!
You can buy the DVD on Amazon.
christopher seems so nice!!
