Wow JB thanks for sharing. Thank God and your family we’re safe!!!
Glad you all are ok. If those are OEM tires. Make sure you report that tire blow out to Keystone Customer Service too. They need to know about all tire troubles like this.
You need a 12 ton hydraulic jack and Goodyear endurance tires.
same thing happened to me today with the same tires. I was using my spare tire since I cough a flat 2 days ago. on the way back from Georgia the tread came off. thank God it didn't blow up. I guess the brand new never used spare tire got damaged by the hot florida sun while parked. I'm getting Goodyear endurance soon.
Glad you guys are ok! And I am glad the tire didn't shred parts of the camper!
There are two different heights to those tire ramps. I have the taller one (I think it is called the PRO) and it still does not lift the other axle quite high enough to change a tire. That is because I have the equalizer with the 4 inch travel (MORryde SRE 4000), so the other axle just hangs down - if that makes sense. Since I don't have hydrolic jacks that would lift the camper, I have to use a jack in addition to the ramp.
Safe travels!
Glad everyone is ok. I’ll be adding traffic cones to my storage compartment now.
I always keep a floor jack and an impact.
100 degrees? That's a cool day around here in AZ.
Good idea to pick a safer location then 20 inches from the Hell-Way👍
Goodyear endurance!
Man I am surprised you kept the china bombs on that trailer. Time to get the Goodyear Marathons or a nice 12ply
I have a Cougar with the same tires. TPMS told me my tire was down to 70 psi
Pulled over before my tire blew up and grenaded.
I carry a floor jack and a cordless 1/2” impact gun ( Dewalt ) with a 3/4” and 13/16” impact socket.
20 minutes later I was on the road again.
Filling up the tires on a cold morning and driving on a hot day greatly increases tire pressure.
I ditched my China bombs ( kept them as spares ) and put Goodyear endurance on.
Been there - I95 in Connecticut - left front blew, hour later left rear blew. Only had 1 spare. Stranded for hours on the side of the road. Had to unhook and go to motel (had dogs so more complex). Next day had to replace 2 tires when tire shop opened, and later repaired damage to camper sheet metal and fender that were ripped off). TPMS went of both times about the same tire I heard the loud bang of the tire popping.
Just add a 12 ton bottle jack and impact driver to your inventory. Along with a 12V air compressor. We had two tires blow on a return trip one time. That was a fun trip home. The next week, I put Goodyear Endurance tires on and loved them.
Always check your date codes on your tires . Replace when over 5 years old. The rubber compounds start to break down in time. And always cover tires when not in use.
You need to keep you a Milwaukee impact with socket set
For sure. A cordless impact wrench is a must have
Same thing happened to us. Took off the 10 ply and went with the Goodyear G614 commercial trailer tires. Bought a good cordless 1/2 impact . Built a ramp out of 2x10 . Hope I never have to use . Also put a TPM on the trailer . Safe travels folks
Unless you ran over something that specifically popped that tire I would order all new tires if that happened to me! Thanks for sharing this and glad you guys are safe!🇺🇸💪
Buy Sailun tires they are the best
No need to use your truck jack to get the axle higher off the ground. Next time use the jacks already on the trailer. The hydraulic jacks on my rv will easily lift the tires off the ground and it much faster.
His cougar has electric jacks and they are not made to lift that heavy RV. He would end up having another problem.
Good video for all RVers to see and think about. I bought a 1/2 in impact wrench to make changing the tire quicker. Also have the impact socket for the lug nuts on the wrench. Keep the jack and impact wrench with a pair of gloves handy.
Keep on trucking buddy 👍🙏
I'm surprised you don't have AAA Plus RV. They would have sent out someone equipped to replace the blown tire with your spare.
who has that kind of time when you can do it yourself.
Invest in a impact and torque wrench.
AWESOME Family M Brother..... I wish I could do some TRUCK stuff with you????!!! I'm 68 and a wonderful VALET.....Let me know..
Met a guy at the last campground that screwed stainless sheet metal above the tires in case of a blow out. Glad you and the fam are safe.
If those Trailer King tires (CHINA BOMBS) are anything like my Trailer King tires? I bet if you jack up each tire and inspect the tires very carefully you will find all the tires will have bubbles and are out of round and will need to replace all of the tires.
I keep a impact gun. sockets and a floorjack in all my vehicles. In the event of a blow out I’m not on the side of the road for small amount of time
Changing tires are better during the daytime than at night
As a small rv/trailer rental business owner. I would recommend traveling with a full size jack. Especially traveling full time. I have one in the back of the bed every time I do a delivery.
This is why i got the nice goodyears on mine
I think the reason the rim was so hot was cuz you continued to roll down the highway trying to get to a safe place to change the tire. Replace all four tires with F or G rated tires. We had a blowout on our Goodyear Endurance, was three years old and 19k on them, going 55 mph and tire temp was 73 degrees. I replaced all four with Carlisle F rated tires. Love them. Same price as Goodyear Endurance. I also had the same problem with the Trailer Aid. I felt it was worthless after that. Get a cordless 1/2" impact. Makes tire changing a piece of cake. Glad you guys are safe!!!!!!
Glad you guys are ok, way to have a great attitude and be an example to your daughter on how to handle adversity!
I had the Westlake “China bombs” on my travel trailer and ran 2 years with no issues but I was always nervous based on the opinions online. When I got my 5th wheel I was excited to see it came with Goodyear Endurance tires which is what everyone said to buy to replace the China bombs. Just noticed a bulge in the sidewall of the Goodyears with maybe 1k miles on them. Needless to say, I’m disappointed, but at the end of the day nothing is perfect. Reinforces the importance of checking your tires before hitting the road every time. Safe travels and thanks for the great content!
The TRAILER AID ramp for me was a complete waste of money. Doesn’t pick up my 5th wheel near enough.
Glad you got it changed out!
WOW!! That thing really shredded bad!
You Should have Orange Cones an Blinkers for Emergency!!!
You all are true campers. 99 degrees, and you kept smiling!
make sure you drop the Psi 15 psi
It’s only a matter of time before this happens to everyone. My buddy had to do this on the side of I80 but he didn’t have the room you had on the side of the highway. He said it was scary as hell as the big rigs that couldn’t get over we’re really close to him driving by. I have some Goodyear endurance H rated tires but I’m sure this will happen at some point in my future. I hope everything works out well in the end.
I have a 2020 Cougar same model as you. Same Trailer king tires. Had a blow out this season. I figure I had about 8500 miles on them. I have Tireminder TPS. had no warning. Just blew and then the alarm went off. However I was prepared. I have an 8 ton bottle jack I keep in the trailer. Breaker bar for the lugs, plus a star. I now have 5 brand new tires. Went with Goodyear Endurance. Glad everyone is safe. Working on the side of the road really gets your blood pumping.
Never ever place your jack under the axle! Put it under the u-bolts. Tire changing 101.
1st thing I did b4 we left Florida was replace my tires...
Glad you all were ok. Not much worse than changing a tire on the side of an interstate with vehicles blasting by at 80mph.
Great video, thanks for sharing!
Two words, bottle jacks.
A battery impact drill will be faster, Bottle jack and 6×6×2 board
Yeah don't try driving at all, with a flat, this will end badly. Always carry a spare and make sure it's in good condition.
Probably all of the remaining tires are defective as well and this will continue happening.
It seems you were well equiped to handle the event, sorry those tires seem to be junk, this happens way too often.
Thanks for the info. I enjoy learning about trailers. My wife and I are thinking of adding a 2500 ram and trailer to take the kids across country over the next couple of years.
Always a scary issue to deal with. Had this happen on our 3 axle toy hauler 5th wheel between Moab and Grand Junction on I-70 years ago. Not fun changing a tire next to 80 MPH traffic! Be safe. I always cary a good hydraulic bottle jack with me just in case.
I just put a set of 14 ply tires on my rockwood. They have steal belting n shit. Recommend
They tough as shit
JB, glad you did not have a lot of damage. JB, you need to have a little more tools, but I'm glad you handle like a boss. Stay safe and happy travels.
Damn man. I’m glad you guys are ok and it was just a tire blowout. Be safe bro!
They sell a different trailer ramp that is metal and a little taller. I had those Chinese tires and nothing but blowouts. A taller ramp will definitely help you. Just curious the star is the old reliable and a definite must have item. But a cordless impact may save a little more time to get you back on the road. Hope all is well and safe travels!
Glad y'all were all ok and safe.
not a good idea to lift from axle tube...stack more blocks and lift from frame next time
Who work!?!?!
Man THAT SUCKS!! Those Dagon Trailer King tires. We just recently got some new Hercules steel belted 12-ply tires installed before we head from Georgia down to the Florida Keys. What you have shown me in this video is to do as much preventative preparation as possible from avoiding blowouts to having all the equipment to change out a tire if it should blow. Glad to know you all are safe and hopefully can continue your travels and have a great time. Just think, memories are being built with the family.
Good Morning. Just be safe. Jack
Lucky, my aunt and uncle had a blowout on thi0
Where are your triangles?
I'm glad you and your family are okay
Always have an impact wrench. I have like 4-5 ryobi tools that go everywhere with me, the impact included.
I keep a heavy ratchet strap onboard. My plan would be to remove the flat tire and strap the axle up then move to a location off the highway. Too dangerous these days with distracted drivers to change on the side of the interstate
I just got new tires (5) just last month. They were 7-8 years old and the spare was 14 years old. My camper is an '07. I also got the BAL about 4 years ago. Fortunately I've never had to use it in an emergency. I definitely keep it greased up, but I hate that keeper pin. I need something different. I'm sorry to see that your trailer jack didn't work, but on the plus side, I was looking at getting one. I chose a bottle jack instead and it looks like that was the right decision. Glad to see you're OK and not too much damage. BTW, I put Hercules tires on the rig based on reviews and a recommendation from a friend.
I had a blow out and low and behold there was a exit 1/16th of a mile down the road. I took that exit a low and behold there was a Red Roof Inn. We could not make it to our camp site so we just stayed in the Red Roof Inn for the night. I had no trailer damage and did lift the tire off the ground using my 6 point hydraulic leveling system.
Nice n stressful working on side of hwy like that with all that traffic blasting by you. Glad nothing catastrophic and RV OK. Impact wrench, broheem. Impact wrench. Quick work. And I keep a floor jack with me. And 35k lb straps and shackles. And and and and and and..... Gotta fig they'll be needed at some point. And you're doing a lot of miles out there so odds arent in your favor.
Being prepared for such events is a nice single-finger salute to those events. And OF COURSE it had to happen an hour from destination. Damn you Universe!!!!
Blow outs on the intestate are the worst. Cars and semis zipping by at 70 mph very dangerous and nerve racking. Had this happen to me this past summer on a 99 degree day. I always carry a car floor jack, blocks and an impact gun with sockets. Makes the changeover so much easier and quicker. Unfortunately my blow out caused a lot of damage to my trailer floor.
You need G or H rated tires
been there , done that ! ☝️
Man that sucks big time. What’s the date code on your tires?? Mine say mid 2017 meanwhile the trailer is a 2019, which I purchased new. I’m contemplating changing them. Came back from a 6000km
And saw a lot of blow outs. Keep positive buddy!
Blow outs suck. You got lucky, the plumbing and the fender flares stayed intact. I was not that lucky. Now I put load range G tires on mine. We shall see if they were worth the extra money.
This always sucks... with the hydraulic leveling you can use it to lift the rv to change the tire.
Stop using those cheap china bomb tires. How fast were you driving? Greater than 65? For safety, you need to set up some cones or flags up the highway from where you’re pulled over.
You put two front to back yellow pads under the one you run the back tire up on. Plenty of height to raise the change out tire in front. The way you did will damage the axle jacking it up and potentially bending it permanently.
6:20 it's at this point your wife should have been on other side of you facing traffic instead of having her back turned.
I feel like you had to of picked something up off the road I wouldn’t blame the cheap tire as long as the tread is good and it’s been made within a few years the tire is fine.
You have an air compressor but don’t have a an impact gun come on .
I carry a half inch drive electric impact. No need for compressor.
@@daviddouglass7662 so used it
For next time less use spell 20 pounds lower psi
No way xD :)
You definitely need more training on this matter period. You put yourself and your family in great danger
Ok. What would your suggest be?
