- Have you ever wondered how to escape the locksport doldrums when it feels like all progress has been lost? You've been picking for a while and making good progress, but suddenly you can't seem to open even your basic locks; it can be frustrating and some pickers even quit because they can't find a way out again.

You killed me. It's so amazingly amusing so many non-lock-related stock-videos/fragments pieced together yet made sense XD. I find that to know that there will always be locks that you can't pick open, while having the faith that you'll eventually open the locks that once resists your picking effort as long as you keep trying, is essential. Thanks for the encouragement. ;-)
Yeah this project was quite challenging in terms of visuals -you can only show so many images of failed attempts to open a lock! I guess as an English teacher by day, Intend to think in metaphor so I’m glad you found the footage made sense 🙌

OMG. I wrote a post on this on the Reddit channel. Regression. Yes, I feel I fall to a lower level, but I learn things better and in a new way on the second and third go round. I see things from a new perspective. I see where some basic skills had gotten sloppy and the importance of fundamentals. In fact, I'm watching this video because I quit picking. I couldn't open a 1 pin Master Lock 3 this morning.
Well, I hope you stick with it Keith. It is just a temporary set back - what you could do once, you'll be able to do again.
I write novels. When writer's block hits, i see it as a push to live more experiences for more writing material. #2 in this list is what brought me to locksport. I have acquired a number of odd hobbies and skills over the years.
ETA: I love your philosophical approach to lock picking. I just subscribed. Keep up the great work.

Sometimes I have failed attempts picking locks. I dont edit them out. I fast forward them so people know it wasn't a straight open nice and quick but don't have to sit through it all. Im not keen on makeing people think that lock picking takes a minut or so all the time👍

This is a really useful video - makes lots of sense beyond just lockpicking. I very much liked the reference to poetry. There must be so many references to locks and keys in poems, literature, art, and films - but that's a whole different subject.

Yea , i know how it feels because i'm in a lock picking slump at the moment , but because i've picked goodish locks in the past , i know i can get to that place again
Absolutely - with experience I think we can more easily reframe the difficult patch and have confidence that it is just temporary.

Thanks for the video, I've just had a bit of an episode of this. I was struggling to progress to some better locks, I just couldn't get an open. Then I got two opens on different locks I had really struggled with, both within 5 minutes. I continued to open them easily time after time. I definitely agree that I had a leap in ability as soon as I exited the doldrums .
I really like your approach with your videos there's something different than what everybody else does. That being said I've got a lock which is a Master Lock which the core is under tremendous spring tension I've managed to be able to rake it open but have not been able to spp it, which is strange considering ISP peed at three times the day I brought it home from the store about 2 weeks ago thanks again

Lock sport is a tough unforgiving game as I call it
I stress alot that we must respect each lock invidually not matter how many times we have breached it or others of the same make or model.
Tensions can rise quickly,your heart beat escalates,grip on the lock is overly tight,sweaty handy these are all signs that we are struggling.
The high of an open can be short lived,the first few minutes of any pick are extremely crucial,if you let these first few minutes dictate your ability to settle in and focus on the task at hand its game over.
Some go quick,some mock you!
Patience/Practice/Perseverance
I have many long videos on my channel,videos that I refused to throw in the proverbial towel,I choose to let camera blow up first!

Great video, I’ve just come back after a years break and I managed to pick round my Sparrow’s revolver which before I would get stuck on the 2nd bible.
Great advice, loved the shot of the dog and snail. I have many many picking slumps they are an opportunity for me to do other things on my channel such as show and tell, build something, do shoutouts and do comparisons, adds variety to my channel, cheers

This video has been up for about an hour and already there are several pickers who have identified that they are either in or coming out of a slump. I think once you have enough experience under your belt (as you clearly do) it is easier to be patient and anticipate more productive days ahead again 😉 Hope it passes soon for you.

In order of challenge - Masterlock No 3, Masterlock 140, Abus 64/40, Masterlock LOTO 410, Abus 65/50, and then two American 1100 😉
I remember when I studied Karate. At first you fumble around like an idiot. Soon you begin to learn the basics in an acceptable fashion. As you progress you will suddenly find you can no longer do the basics and fumble about again. All that means is that you are relearning the basics at a better, higher level and your karate is improving. But it does not feel like it at the time. It just feels like you will never learn and so you get frustrated.
That is why you meet so many people who 'used to do karate' and yes, I am one of them.

I, like many others have had this happen. That feeling of frustration and even anxiety at not being able to pick a lock you may have already conquered many times before. You wonder what's gone wrong, where you just lucky on those other picks? And you start to really question yourself. LUCKLY I have found a way around this. One that lets you move on and not feel upset. When I hit this "brick wall" I challenge myself! For every 5 min. that go by without the lock opening I take a shot of whisky. If the lock isn't open with in a 30 minutes I stop picking. The reason I stop is I couldn't pick if I wanted too and also at that point I don't CARE if I get the lock open or not! After my hangover is better the next day I try again.... (disclaimer- (because people are too serious sometimes) I do not condone excess drinking and this post is for entertainment only )

@@fishpicks4531 It happened to me last night. I could not open a couple of my favorite locks for anything. But this morning, I opened one of these in a couple of minutes. What a difference a day makes!
That must be a bad slump having a master lock beat you.
Haha oh man you have no idea how deep I’ve fallen into slumps in the last few months! You may as well have put a spatula in my hand and I would have achieved similar results! And before you say it, I know that most people could probably pick a Masterlock with said culinary tool! 😂
