  • This video is about market gardening in Southeast Alaska, including crane flies emerging from the larvae stage under row cover; harvesting orach, spinach, and lettuce from the greenhouses followed by clearing plants & weeds to make room for basil transplants in one greenhouse and to give light to lettuce in the other greenhouse; managing a third succession of salanova lettuce transplants that are growing slowly; seeding soil blocks with a fourth succession of salanova lettuce and a second succession of green onions; Jang-seeding three rows of spinach in place of failed mizuna in the garden; managing row cover in the garden, removing it from the clover/pea and onion family beds after the fox sparrows and golden- & white-crowned sparrows are gone, and putting hoops over two beds of baby greens to keep out the spotted cutworm moth; hoeing carrot beds that are very weedy; shoveling off clover from one bed and transplanting herbs into it because under-sowing the herbs with the garlic as previously planned looks too shady; installing a pea trellis using deer fencing; and harvesting mustard greens from the garden for the first time.
