My husband and I really enjoyed this. Thanks to Jo Jean for mentioning 'RED." My mother-in-law is from the area and for 43 years I've been hearing about "red up" the dishes.
This song is on Ron's album "Pittsburgh to Paris" - available at the usual download shops or get the hard copy (CD) at the Romanovsky & Phillips website (can't post link).
You nailed it, Ron! I've been gone 30 years now (and live in CA too), but whenever I go back, it's like I never left. Love love love Pittsburgh and its people! Thanks for posting!
He forgot that we put things in a POKE, PICK the wash and RED up the house! Good to hear polka music again. What wedding in the TriState wouldn't have some polka music to dance to?
Was in the 'burgh' the other day....went to the casino, then took the river walk to market square and stopped at the Oyster House for a monster fish sandwich and iron city beer and walked the bridge back to the casino...great place !!
Living outside the 'Burgh right now--I told some kids to grab some gumbands at work the other day. It took me awhile to realize why they were looking at me weird. :)
Been in DC for 25 years but I catch myself, and simply say, yeah I'm from da Burg, yinz wanna make sompthin' awt of dat! Who's my team? Ya gotta be kidding, the Stiller's, it ain't the Skins, ya jag off. Fun video, good job, thanks Ron.
Norside, Souside, Dahntahn, jumbo or chipped ham sammiches, gumbans stored on doorknobs. Roller coasters at Kennywood. My town, sometimes slippy in winter but I wouldn't trade it for any place else.
OH my gosh, I also miss my home! Been gone almost 50 years and seems like yesterday. As he said in the song......"you can take the "girl" out of Pittsburgh but can never take Pittsburgh out of the "girl". and yes ...he forgot.......gumbands!!
Ron did a good job. He hit it right with the language part. East Pittsburgh was also known as "The Burg". Braddock used to be the Fifth Avenue of New York in its hey day. Keep up the good work.
Many of us who don't say "yinz" have replaced it with "you guys," the plural of which is "you guyses", as in, "We're com in over you guyses haas fer a bit."
Y'unz did a great job on 'is Ronnie, John 'n mum look great, the "jagger bush" lady is a hoot. Should be paid by the Pittsburgh Convention Bureau for such gorgeous scenes in so short a time. I always figure the accent has a whiskey-rebellion-German-Appalachian influence and J'unz started out "you ones." Though long in the god forsaken confederacy my "gonna take a shour" is still noticed. Thanks, Trick BTW classy of you not to mention Shaler in the Post-Gazette article.
what a great show...of course i dont speak that way;;;;;as i was taught to speak correctly by going to speech school. carnegie tech.... in fact i dont recognize a pitturght acent ....thought many people do...
Im from suburb of philly and we say "crick", Meer, R-out (for route) and Keller for color... Nowadayy my hometown has become overrun by "outsiders" so the langauage has diluted and is not as distinct as it used to be. Kinda sad really.
The one that always got me in trouble with my "you will NOT adopt this accent" midwestern Mom was "aht" (or as it's spelled in English, "out") - as in "You goin aht tonight?"
Corny, but it makes its point. We do speak a little differently...even if your accent isn't quite this pronounced, you will get comments from folks from other areas of the country. It's all good. Wear it with a badge of honor!
Take a ride thru "The Tubes", then go "Red up" your room ...LOL PIZZABURGH !~ ( I have the original "Kennywood Park" (song) redo on my channel now... chek it owt ! Bridge to NOwhere !!! Bet you don't member that ! I swam that river...6X ! Good job...I send you for dinner at Eat'n Park now ( Pgh is STILL most photogenic in Country..) ! Go Steelers! Rock on, Ron !
made a comment about this article several days ago and checked to see what replies I might have received. My email was not included. Used no profane language, no sexual or racial comments or any other comment that would be unprintable. But I did say that I had been gone from Brushton/Homewood some 50 years and have never missed Pgh. Guess you cannot say that. Well, it gives me a chance to say something I forgot to say in my initial post. GO RAIDERS!
I've said before, this is what really pisses me off about movies set in Pittsburgh. None of the actors ever speak the dialect. Come on. Nobody here speaks American Standard English.
Lived in Texas for over 30 years and still drink pop! People look at me like I'm crazy!
What a wonderful video & yinz look great. Great job Ron!
Ronnie, what a wonderful tribute! I had to watch it over and over again !!!!!!!
who knew our family had so much talent!!!
My husband and I really enjoyed this. Thanks to Jo Jean for mentioning 'RED." My mother-in-law is from the area and for 43 years I've been hearing about "red up" the dishes.
Super awesome video. Pittsburgh looks AMAZING!!!!!!!! Captured the heart of the city!!!

You nailed it, Ron! I've been gone 30 years now (and live in CA too), but whenever I go back, it's like I never left. Love love love Pittsburgh and its people! Thanks for posting!
Note the over cast sky. That's a Pittsburgh thing too. Not much sun. But hey, Joe said it would.
A great place to have grown up.
This is my Pittsburgh , and I love it thru and thru ..."just the way you are." Patty Bright
Loved this! It brought back many memories. No matter how far away we are from the Pgh. area, it will always be home.
Hope there's more to come! Now I must gather up all the gumbans and red up my room! Let me know if you have a DVD to purchase. Love it Yinz guys!
