God Jesse McCartney's voice acting in this game is so full of emotion, especially at the part where he confronts Axel about who he is. "I have a right to know!" is so genuinely heartbreaking because Jesse kinda makes his voice break while shouting and it hurts so bad😅
Early in the story theres a scene where roxas eats his ice cream and the stick says "winner". He asks axel what it is and he suggests if it says winner it must be really special (as in he doesnt know either). Roxas as it turns out holds onto this. Later after they all fell out and xion dies. Axel finds a letter in his room where roxas had put the winner stick in for him... It makes that whole section much sadder
There's a cool part in the 358/2 Days manga, around the part where Roxas is chasing the hooded Xion, where it's actually Riku and Xigbar, Xaldin, Demyx, and Luxord all show up to capture him. The panel is cool. Side note, I hope they remake 358 as there are so many good parts lost in the cutscenes. The battle with Saïx, the time Roxas ACTUALLY met Hayner, Pence, and Olette, the full final boss fight against Xion. One of my favorite parts was sometimes during gameplay on the DS, you'd have the game on the top screen but on the bottom screen, you would sometimes get static images of Sora in certain circumstances. I.e. meeting Genie, battling a Gaurd Armor, etc. And when you moved, Sora would move on the bottom screen. For that and giving me one of the better stories in the series, 358 is a too grade KH game to me.
The “aw” every time something depressing is revealed is exactly how this game changed the course of my whole childhood. I was a pretty empathetic little squirt, but holy crap did playing this game at 13 slam home for me what it meant to understand someone else’s circumstances and have care for even “villains”. 358/2 is still my favorite game bc of this
About Xion been No:14 in a group called organization 13: She is not a real numer, Here name without the X is literaly "No: i" as in "number: i" (the imaginary number)
Experiencing the story of Kingdom Hearts through Lore Dump - previously my only experience was watching a let's play of KH2 - the ending of this is the first time it's actually touched me emotionally. Fuck me, it's so sad! WHO ELSE IS HE GOING TO HAVE ICE CREAM WITH!?
In the manga When they get the vacation day both roxas and xion dont know what to do. It kind of stresses xion out and she ends up calling an emergency meeting with roxas and axel (who was trying to sleep on his day off) to decide what to do. It also shows what the other members do and demyx plays hus sitar all day (which also seems to be what he does instead of missions too). Luxord plays card games, saix bosses dusks about to clean the castle and xemnas literally spends all day basically praying to the kingdom hearts theyre building lol
If there's any game in the series that i think deserves and would be best suited for a true remake on modern hardware, it's Days. I know nomura wouldn't be able to help himself from slipping in extra bits of lore, potentially compilcating this already insane story, but I don't really care. This game actually accomplished quite a bit, supporting a fully functioning local multiplayer mode with nearby DSes. I'm not sure exactly how it would work, but it's something I've always hoped for. I was honestly super disappointed to find out that it was just going to be a cutscene movie in the remixes.
I'm going to relive a memory I had, when this game was coming out, I went to GameStop to get the event Celebi for Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver. While I was waiting, I distinctly remember hearing over the TV that was playing ads, "Get ready for Kingdom Hearts 358 Days over 2". I feel like that is the best way to describe Kingdom hearts with just a title, incongruous and very confusing
As an Ian, it's kind of a shame that Xion isn't my name with an o and an x, and instead its cannon that her name is "No. i" with an x because Vexen was a giant nerd.
I just rewatched the cutscene you were talking about at 29:30 for confirmation and yeah, the password for the ANOTHER account (aka Xehanort/Xemnas’s) is the somebody names of the first 6 Org XIII members. Glad everyone seemed to like this game since it’s my personal favorite in terms of story and character development. I also really like the monotony of the original DS version, as it adds narrative weight of the clock tower cutscenes, something that the HD movie failed to deliver. I’m planning to emulate it and play it myself at some point! I’m still on 1FM currently (gotta go back and do all the pre-Hollow Bastion revisits) so it’ll take a while since I still have to go through CoM and 2 since I’m playing them in release order. Didn’t really have any ideas of what to comment on the CoM or 2 episodes but I might go back and do so once I do have something to comment lol. Revisiting this series is a blast so far since I’m now in Chase’s shoes and not Neil’s, knowing as much as I do and giggling to myself when Monty or Neil make an educated and correct guess that Chase can’t confirm yet because it’d be spoilers.
I posted this before on Monty Zander and I feel this needs to be addressed for anyone who hasn't played and CAN'T play the game But chase totally missed the mark in villainizing Xions actions at the end, its confirmed that her attempt to "absorb" him was nothing but a facade so that Roxas would strike her down in self defense, she even says as much it was her choice to lose when Roxas feels responsible for her "death". And its again confirmed in the reports. Also You won't see this in the cutscene compilation, but through out the multiple phase boss battle Xion aggressively taunts Roxas saying things like "Stop Holding Back" and verbally warning him of her stronger attacks. She threw the fight super hard. Also Chase really played up Axel being a Jerk, when he lets Xion "get away" she actually pulls her hood down revealing her Sora face to him and basically shocks him into letting her go, axel was not NEARLY as cut throat towards Xion as he made it out.
Algorithm comment: This is my favorite KH game by far, remember playing it on the bus from school. Mission structure really worked for me, and the story hit hard
I call COMPLETE bullshit on the "Nobodies don't have feelings" shit. Always have, ever since it came up in 2, and then we see one of them sacrifice themselves to save someone they care about. Mickey is all "Oh, they just fake emotions to manipulate people" and yet they totally show emotion when alone, or when there's only other Nobodies, and they clearly have desires and wants which emotions are Kind of important for. I think they're just all bein' gaslit and they've been convinced that "Oh, that's not REAL anger you feel when someone fucks up your day, REAL anger is totally different and special and you don't have it." Or whatever.
It is more like Nobodies start without Hearts, but that is anathema to Reality (Kingdom Hearts) and therefore, they begin to built one by interacting with people.
This actually IS explained later on. Nobodies are born without hearts and cannot feel emotion. They are instructed to “go through the motions” in order to blend with other people and try to act like people with hearts. However, it is later revealed that over time (as memories are created) the Nobodies create their own hearts becoming complete beings. As their hearts develop they begin to experience emotion, but they’ve been told so many times by the higher-ups of Org 13 that they can’t have emotions; leading them to believe the gaslighting. If they knew they could develop hearts all on their own they wouldn’t need to do all that awful stuff or work for Org 13. They are all being lied to.
so in short this is the story of Sora but not Sora losing his best friend who is made from half of real sora and half of nothing from a girl real sora knows
1:17:40. That's pretty much a summary of the entire series. Sets up all this solid clear emotional stuff then buries it under convoluted nonsense. No set of videogames knows how to punch itself in the dick as hard as Kingdom Hearts.
I love this comment because while I want to argue, I cant because it's 100% true. And I kinda love them for it. I feel like Nomura clearly could have left it "simple and clean" and ended the game/s with no questions to be asked, but I've spent countless hours on the internet looking for the answers to questions that simply have no answers yet, and when they do get answered it usually raises more questions (that's what Nomura wants). But I'm gonna buy the next game to find out those answers (that's what Nomura needs). Because I believe in Nomura's writing, plus from a marketing stance I find it funny at this point. KH3 summed up a lot of stuff that had us waiting over a decade to be answered and that's why people cry at the end. And then the very next scene has you going "Wait, what?". Kingdom hearts punches itself in the dick, but it's also a masochist with a kink, and I don't wanna kink-shame.
The best part of this entire saga is how quickly we get introduced to characters, decide we don't like them, and by the end of 1 title those characters will probably make us cry at least once- except sora and plot device, I mean kairi. And its even better when we get big reveals which give us huge feels for characters we didn't like. Who is this Riku guy? He's a jerk. RIKU NOOOOOO T_T Who the crap is Namine and why is she screwing with the timeline? NAMINE NOOOOOOO T_T Who is this blond haired twit and why am I not playing as Sora? ROXAS NOOOOOOOOOO T_T Oh awesome, we get to explore more of the Organization and play Roxas again! XION NOOOOOOOOOOOOO T_T Oh we're in the plot with grown up replacements for the Destiny Trio? At least they look cool and will explain "not Roxas" from last time WTF ALL THREE OF THEM? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO T_T But nothing. Not a single moment. Not one tragedy that befalls either of them has ever made me care about Sora or Plot Device
*DISCLAIMER*
Thanks for being here! This episode is a reupload, transferring our backlog of Lore Dumps from the Monty Zander youtube channel.

When Monty said the keyblades are how Mickey sees all, I imagine Chase almost burst trying not to grin amd mention no name/the gazing eye

The mention of King K is so funny to me because you and him are smaller and some of my favorite youtubers
I saw the king K video too and I really appreciate the reference

We're hoping to get some sea-salt ice cream to enjoy while we record KH4- Neil
That "ok." at the very end killed me.
Binging this makes me so happy, consuming this many hours of Kh in one week is bliss
Have fun.
I'm binging the playlist for the 5th or 6th time now, it's just that good
In the manga

I can't believe there is no I cry you cry we all cry merch given how often it comes up
Man this really should've been remastered over Chain of Memories. That game would've made the better movie anyway.

I forget, what was the secret that had Saix send Axel back to Castle Oblivion ?
He wanted to find a certain chamber with a certain person in it
Hits you right in the feels
They are sad now. But just wait till BBS. I love this series guys

the fact that axel only actually dropped the number back to 13 like monty said
30:55 I think it's refered to as an ampalang

Or, as I call it, 179 Days.
1:20:37 "who I would like to note.......is not Roxas" 👀👀👀👀👀
Why was agrabah used so much? Surely people were feeling bored by now

There aren’t Ansem Reports, but don’t the journal entries kind of act like them?
Siax’s somebody is totally shipped with Lea, when they work with ansem. You can’t tell me any different he’s totally in love with Lea.
