Thunderbird 9 Uses Signal Mirror at Huntington Beach Air Show

The flash marks the place ("show center") where the maneuvers are to be centered. Traditionally, Thunderbird 9 (the flight surgeon) operates the signal mirror at air shows. Here, that is Major (Dr.) Glen Goncharow, Thunderbird 9 from fall 2017 to mid-2019. The red disk in the center of the signal mirror is a retroreflective aimer, which acts like a "red-dot" gunsight, creating a glowing red dot visible only when looking through the aimer in the direction of the main column of reflected light.
