Thanks, Dave! You really know your stuff!! I didn't even know how to open my thermostat cover until watching this video. After doing several resets, I was able to determine that it just wasn't working properly and needed to be repaired or replaced.

Thanks so much! It wasn't locked, but it had stopped turning on the A/C and in South Georgia in the summer, that's BAD! I used the reset on the back and it worked. Just. Like. That.

Is your thermostat reading the same tempurature as the room? If it's close to or the same temp on the thermostat and in the room you might have and issue with your air conditioner.

I need help! I live in a rental unit and they have the heat locked at 70. It’s an older Braeburn. There is no reset button internally only externally but that one doesn’t seem to fix the problem. The only controls on the front are cool off heat, fan auto off, and up/down.

I'm sorry I didn't' respond months ago, but I'm not 100 percent that I know how to fix your issue. If you're paying for the utilities, then the landlord/rental agency should allow you full access to the thermostat.

So, would this work if the ac is locked at 75? Trying to at least get it to 73

    • @mechanicdave80

This should unlock the temperature hold no matter the setting. Letting you choose what temperature you want. (I don't recommend doing this if you're in a corporate building, they tend to hate change)

Hi there! Does this work with a heated tile thermostat? It’s a PROTHERM and I can’t find anything helpful online, nor with the manual.

    • @mechanicdave80
      @mechanicdave80  2 роки тому

If it has some sort of reset button, it will work. I'll see what I can find on the Protherm thermostats.

      Lock Deactivation
      1. To deactivate the lock option, cut off the power supply of the thermostat at the electrical panel and wait at least 30 seconds.
      2. Restore the power supply to the thermostat. The Lock icon will blink during a maximum of 5 minutes, indicating that you can deactivate the Lock option.
      3. Simultaneously press down the + and - buttons for more than 10 seconds. The Lock icon will then be hidden indicating that the lock option is deactivated.

@Chonny559 ok, have you tried removing the thermostat from the wall base, resetting it, then taking (2) "AA" batteries out?

It sounds like you might have a level 2 lockout in effect. Here's a link to the manufacturer site for your thermostat. There are some areas you might not want to adjust, since they can potentially change how the thermostat functions.

PLEASE HELP ! My landlord has an old heating only thermostat Lux ELV4e and nobody can figure out how to lower the heat ... It’s June here in New York and the heat is blasting only upstairs ... Downstairs baseboards are off ... I’m trying to be very patient with this thermostat but losing my shit ... This particular model has no heat shut off function ... So overwhelmed, can someone please advise 🥵

@@mechanicdave80 Hey Dave, what a damn nightmare ... This older hse is set up real strange, no baseboards upstairs like downstairs, 3 different radiators up here have a super old Fedders imprint on the heavy duty metal covers ... Geez, I thought that company only manufactured ac’s back in the day ... After viewing a pic / specs online of model LUX turns out this company decided to place an actual blk switch heat on / off ... Sorry for rambling but flipping that switch off didn’t stop either turns out the radiator’s were blasting bc the boiler switch was on ... Slomin’s mechanic specifically told us a couple of mths while he was here addressing issues with the boiler to leave it in it’s on position ... He said flipping the boilers switch would cause condensation under it’s cover ... So all this time it was the boiler ... Now whenever someone wants to shower or wash dishes we’re making sure to flip on then off ... UNLIKE what the fuel companies mechanic said, what a shame ...Thank you so much for replying, the 129 degree heat coming out of my bedrooms radiator was starting to mess with my brain 👍

@@mechanicdave80 Yep, so far so good ... Within about an hour of flipping the boiler switch the heat upstairs stopped cranking ... Still can’t believe the fuel oil mechanic ( who by the way my landlord has a contract with ) told us not to switch it off ... Thank you again .
