    EDDIE HAMILTON INTERVIEW
A movie isn’t complete until it’s edited, and few people know this better than editor Eddie Hamilton. Hamilton has worked on critically and commercially successful films like Top Gun: Maverick, Kingsman: The Secret Service, Mission: Impossible - Fallout and Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning. In this video, he sits down to talk with us about a wide variety of topics of interest to any editor.
    FILM EDITING EXPLAINED
Hamilton begins by giving us the rundown of how he became an editor. In his story, we learn about useful strategies that one can take when trying to enter the film industry. Then, we zoom out and discuss what exactly an editor does. As Hamilton explains, the answer isn’t as simple as you’d think. Hamilton emphasizes that editing is a collaborative process, not just with a director, but also with assistant editors, music editors, sound designers, and more.
EDDIE HAMILTON MISSION IMPOSSIBLE DEEP DIVE
As Hamilton details his storied career, he delves into his editing process for the action behemoth Mission: Impossible. He tells us how he landed the coveted gig, and how he and director Christopher McQuarrie worked together to create two of the best action movies of the century. As Hamilton describes, it’s not all about the action. It’s about finding the perfect moments in a sea of footage and telling an emotionally grounded story.
    LEARN ABOUT EDITING
Our conversation with Eddie Hamilton had many takeaways, but perhaps most of all it emphasizes just how important an editor is to a project. Hamilton puts it best: it doesn’t matter what was or wasn’t captured on set and how good or bad people felt about it. All that matters is what the editor can do with the footage they’re given. The quality of a movie is in an editor’s hands. Don’t take them for granted.

Eddie is the best!!!! Such a great guy and one of the best editors (if not the best) working today. Should have won the oscar for TOP GUN. And also his editing in Dead Reckoning is next level.❤

This guy is living my dream job… He seems like a great guy and incredibly knowledgeable. He was very lucky to follow his path.
Unfortunately, just my humble opinion, all the movies he gets to work on are pretty much crap. He doesn’t mention any of the great movies in the world… He talks about Star Wars And top gun as if they were great movies. They’re complete fluff entertainment mindless masturbation. I really wonder what he thinks of the truly great movies… The Godfather, there will be blood, the assassination of Jesse James. Truly wonder what he thinks of those.
But hey, I would trade places with him in a heartbeat.
