Wow! As a friend of Brett I didn’t realize how good he is in his craft. 👍
Oh yeah! And not only incredibly talented, but one of the nicest guys in the industry.
Incredible. I hope one day i get to work in a movie trailer. It is one of the best ways to thrive emotions on people. It seems awesome.
You can absolutely do it - all these guys started where you are. Make trailers out of your favorite movies. Just do that over and over again; you'll get better and better, and that'll become the portfolio that gets you into the industry.
thank you nick lange and Brett Winn for sharing the important roles of an editor. one of the best interviews I have watched and sharing your success stories.
Thanks for the nice words, happy you enjoyed it. More to come soon.
I work for some of thier competitors. I am a broadcast engineer, build and design their edit suite and sound bays. I learn a lot just from talking to their editors, ae sound guys and even owners. Love talking with them how they do it. These guys love their art and are really dedicated to what they do. Love working with them sometime even better than working with a live production or a film production. Thanks for this video, I learned a lot again LOL I felt like I just left work after watching this hahaha thanks LOL
Your job sounds great, too - broadcast engineers are right there on the front lines. Thanks for commenting.
This was such a great time, I'm definitely gonna keep coming back to this and Robert's episode. There's a lot of gold in here that's just inspiring!

What a cool conversation...thank you...I m officially jealous of movie guys...there I said it...need to make a vlog and say it there also...lol...
If you make a vlog, I'll subscribe. Thanks for the nice words.
One thing that becomes obvious is after watching a trailer and then watching the movie, you can tell that the trailer was made from either dailies or an early cut because some scenes in the trailer were not in the final movie. Unfortunately if that scene was what caught someone’s interest, they can feel let down with the movie.
Yes - you're right.
Wow. This was great! Brett Winn's career is so interesting. Looks like it took a lot of talent and hard work. Great story of success.
He's one of the hardest working people I've met. And super modest. Thanks for watching.

This is an outstanding presentation with more insight and guidance than its runtime would suggest. I'll be giving this at least another pass. Probably two.

@@Trainrobber 😊👍🏻👍🏻 Pleasure was mine
Is there an explanation why studios spoil movie endings? Or basically every single important scene of the film?
This usually happens at the hands of less experienced studio execs with mandates from above - but part of a trailer team's job is presenting compelling reasons why plot points should be kept secret (i.e. edits so strong that they don't need to give away too much).
Trailer editing seems like such a painful industry to get into. Didn't know in Hollywood studios go to multiple trailerhouses at the same time. You get paid sure, but if you get eliminated it doesn't really move your business forward because you can't really put that on your company resume.
The individual editors often do still include these cuts in their reels/portfolios (and, I'm sure, have fun working on them -- even when they're not selected) -- so it's not a waste of effort!
what the hell?! I thought I was going to learn something about trailers? I love the hot chick!!!
😂 me too. A classic.
