    My buck 119 came in very handy when my hatchet broke as soon I started using it! It got me through a weekend of fire making all by itself!

    That Buck is horrible for skinning. Once your hands get bloody that smooth handle slips around like a wet fish.

      The clip point also isnt the best blade shape for it. Everybody says a clip point is the hunting blade, but i like a blunt tip with a big belly for skinning.

      Honestly even a case xx 223 5 is better for gutting you need a shorter knife for skinning and gutting like a 2 to 3 and a half in knife

    I'd use a Benchmade Grizzly Creek. It gots a gut hook so you don't have to worry about puncturing the stomach cavity when your field dressing a deer.

    • @GerstBladeworks
      @GerstBladeworks Рік тому +1

      If you're puncturing the stomach or organs during field dressing then you need to re-train on how to have it done properly. You do not need to puncture the skin that deep, the skinner blade is exactly that, no pointy tip with a lot of belly

    • @j_4150-
      @j_4150- Рік тому

      @@GerstBladeworks sometimes you cut a little to deep. Just how it goes. When field dressing different animals they all have different skin thickness. Still a gut hook is way easier than using a knife. Less work and precision.

    • @GerstBladeworks
      @GerstBladeworks Рік тому

      @@j_4150- I reckon you're right about certain animals being thicker than others but still, the internal organs are a good way in there . I've never gouged their organs but I suppose it's possible

    • @j_4150-
      @j_4150- Рік тому

      @@GerstBladeworks on deer its easy to accidentally puncture it when cutting around the lower abdomen area. Some areas you need to cut deep to cut the skin but some areas you gotta be careful no to go to deep. Slow and steady. I don't accidentally puncture the stomach now that i've done it on a few deer but still it sometimes happens.

    We need a review of different blade steels for camping as a comparison. Expensive to cheap and Chinese crap

    • @MrLoobu
      @MrLoobu Рік тому +7

      The exact kind of steel means much less than the heat treatment, which also means less than the fit and finish/how that blade meets and stays connected to the handle. Even cheap shitty steels have their upsides, primarily very fast sharpening.

    Not an RVer but I am an OTR truck driver, a Leatherman Surge is part of my EDC. I feel naked without it. Secondly, as a part of my "get home" bag. I have a Tops Steel Eagle 111A, however mine is the hunter point instead of the tanto you showed here. I've modified mine by removing the finger grove on the handle. Also, I removed the black traction coating and blued it with Birchwood Casey super blue. Still need to make or have someone make a Kydex sheath for it, as I am not a big fan of the floppy nylon sheath these steel eagle 111a knives come with.
