Brave reaction, dude. Never apologise for crying. The music alone was tear-inducingly beautiful, but when you bring in the mastery of the lyrics it elevates it to a new level. Just a richly emotive and cathartic song.

I lost my mum 16 years ago when I was 12. This song came on the radio the other day while I was driving. I'd never heard it before and I had to pull over because I was crying so hard. I've never heard a song that so perfectly describes that hole that remains no matter how much time passes. I don't think of my mum every day, I don't miss her every day. I lead a great life and I'm truly happy, but there are always these moments I want to share with her, people I'd love to introduce to her, moments I want her advice and things I miss. That will never go away and this song and Ed's voice delivering it is the musical embodiment of that ache I feel, whenever I miss her.

I agree 100%. I lost my mom 7 yrs ago, dad 6 ys ago, brother 1 tr ago to Covid, and cousin 8 months ago to Cancer & Covid 8 months. We lift each other up, by sharing and supporting our Journeys through grief. It's lifelong, I believe, as grief is a form of love. We never stop loving those who have gone before us. "Visiting Hours" is a song tribute to Ed Sheeran's relationship with Michael Gudinski, a Aussie music icon - Mushroom records.
Being a huge fan of Ed, and knowing he had flown over to your country to perform at Michael's Memorial, I watched the stream live. Ed's performance of this song was so very emotional. Anyone who watched must've felt so much for Ed that evening (morning, here in the UK,).
Ed could hardly get through it without breaking down, he wrote it as a tribute to the late Michael Gudinski. Bless ya mate you're certainly not the only one who cried hearing this

I know exactly how you feel man, I’m only 19 and I don’t normally talk about this but here goes. I don’t have any parents and it’s an uphill battle every day because one minute your okay dealing with it and the next you feel like you have hit rock bottom. I can relate so much to this song and supermarket flowers because it just describes what I wanna say to them if that makes sense. But we’ll done for getting through the video man, first time actually watching but I will subscribe and like, I just hope everyone doesn’t act like they know how it feels when they lose something if it hasn’t happened before, like honestly it sucks but you gotta love with it and show them that you can do it I guess, thanks man

Don't apologize for crying. I was in tears before you hit pause the first time. The song immediately brought my grandmother's smile to mind and I missed her so much, even though she's been gone almost 20 years.
I was seriously so damn happy when this song dropped, because "Bad Habits" was such a typical generic pop song, and it was nice to hear that he's got some emotional bangers on this new album as well. Ed can write amazing pop songs, but where he really shines is songs like this or "Supermarket Flowers"

This song is heartbreaking as I've lost so many people close to my heart, my brother took his own life January 2018, my nephew took his own life march 2018 and my my had terminal cancer and passed December 2018, I am truly broken and listening to this song has just blew me away, the other song I have heard is monsters by James blunt worth a listen

Beautiful song !! "Bill Byerly" my grandpa passed June 27th of 2021. In the last couple months of his life, he was sick and in a lot of pain. He was in and out of the hospital. Therefore, I wasn't around very much because it was too hard for me emotionally. And with me living in Minnesota, him in Colorado, that didn't help. But I would give ANYTHING to have those "visiting hours" 😢💔 That one last chance to sit and talk with him. To tell him how much I love him. Going forward, I will spend the rest of my life, making sure that when he looks down he is proud of me. Proud of the man that he helped make me. I was closer to him than I ever have been my own Dad.

I feel you man. This song ripped me to shreds when I first heard it. I lost my Ma to cancer almost 2 years ago now and it felt pretty fresh for the length of this song. Ed manages to pull these emotions out of all of us. It does get easier though. Stay safe and take care!

Can't help but cry to this beautiful tribute. He wrote it for his friend Michael Gudinski, who in many ways was a father figure to him as well as a massive help in his musical career. He died this year and Ed travelled to Australia to sing this song at his tribute concert. It's on youtube. It's the most heart wrenching performance I've ever watched. You should look it up. The references to "her" at the start are about his new born daughter as well.

1. Sorry for your loss of your dad. Not easy at all. I lost my grandpa last year very unexpectedly, around the same time of getting out of a toxic relationship and losing my beloved pet, and my job due to covid. All within 2 months. It seems like the universe won’t let us catch a break.

Addie Starnes my grandmother passed away on memorial day this year she was 99 years old and the matriarch of our family. We also just recently lost my brother in law Bobby Peacock in September of this year...so many people have lost there loved ones...this song hits the heartstrings hard . My dad died of brain cancer in Feb 2008 and I still wish he was here so I could get his advice. A few weeks ago I was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer and will start chemo, myself, on Thursday and I'm doing my best to stay positive for myself and my kids but man, I could really use his advice and support.
