Nothing but love for Simaudio products. The 860 A V2 is a beast ! The 888 mono-blocks now sell each for 80,000 Canadian currency or 60,000 American.

Hi Jay, thanks for the video. I would like to explain why some amplifiers doesn't sound good in mono....
There are two way to do it internally, one is the bridged mono and the other one is "bi-ampplification" mode. When the project is done in bi-amp mode you literally have two amplifiers that use the same source signal and you have the left output you can use for your mid-hi speaker input and the right out for the Low frequency. This is why the second is the best solution.
In bridged mode you can't use the two separate outputs and in this configuration the damping factor is reduced usually at half of the value of the normal configuration.

@@jaysaudiolab you are welcome. I use two stereo amp to bi-amplify my Tannoy, it is the best solution for all the speakers that allow you to do that, you have to try, but before make sure that the amp is designed in that way.

Hi Jay, if you don’t mind I have a setup tip. Try the tweeters inboard. You won’t have to angle the speakers so much. By not angling them as much you remove the side wall reflections. The radiation pattern of these is - so very different than the Wilsons - in the shape of an infinity sign. Out the front and back but little if nothing to the sides - which means you can place them wide and with the tweeters inboard you will fill that center image more. Just a thought. Hope this helps.

C Ab In my system each tweeter is aimed at the corresponding ear and this seems to work very well for me. I assume our rooms, setup, and distance are quite different. But as long as we’re both getting great sound that’s what this is all about.

Jay's Audio Lab: You’re welcome. By-the-bye, Wendell Diller at Magnepan is very willing to help. I too am looking forward to the Merrill amps with the 3.7i’s. Although Maggies love current, class D is becoming more popular with owners. Should be interesting and fun. Thanks for all you’re doing Jay. Makes passing time under the pandemic much easier.

I'm quite honored to have 2 of your top 5 amps. I find your desciptions of both the Plinius and Sim860 V2 very accurate. Very well descibed. The Sim allows me to hear things that I didn't realize were in the music. For instance, "Pretty little thing" by Fink there is a guitar pluck (mistake by artist) at 1:04 that my Plinius barely produces, whereas the Sim makes it quite apparent. But the Plinius is a touch more musical, which I think I may prefer more, sweeter I guess you would say. I'm going to keep testing, but I have a feeling the Plinius will end up being my favorite. If thats the case, could you give me a few speaker options that would pair well with the Plinius? Say $15,000 to $40,000 for speakers. Thanks, Scott

Are you running all balanced from source to amp? That will greatly increase channel separation and give you that directional bass you like. When I upgraded from SE to balanced on my IEM system, it made a big difference. I'm never going back to SE again. Not mention you get common mode rejection which should mitigate the necessity for higher end cables. Regardless, im using litz OCC silver for my IEM cabling, because for current that small even the best doesn't break the bank. I'd imagine even a litz OCC copper XLR between DAC and preamp, and preamp and amp, will sound more or less perfect. If I'm not mistaken, running a stereo amp as a monoblock should also be using a push-pull amp configuration, which is what balanced is, and therefore desirable.

Once you get panels you always get the itch to hear them again and again. With good subs you can get really good dynamics, not necessarily loud but real dynamics. Although they can play loud. I had Acoustats 2+2 , martin logan request(what i have now) Apogee stage with base and Apogee Duetta. Apogée was the best i heard so far, to bad they are getting old. And new well you pay a lot for shipping, ooh and lots of current and watts to drive any panel ...

3M audioquest dragon costs almost the same as Luxman m900u , I always wondered why high end cables cost so much , Is it completely hand made and takes 1 month to finish ? Hmmm get 2M cable or get used c900u preamp for the same price ? I think I’ll go with Preamp 😂. Jay nothing agains you using them , it’s just I wish they made it more affordable , have been building my own using Oyaide and Fururech cables , I don’t even know how they would compare to something like audioquest but at least I’m not using regular stock cords

Revisiting this video because I’m considering the new Luxman M-10X as well as the SimAudio Moon 860A V2. Impossible to find anything but marketing info about the M-10X. I wonder if the M-10X will better the M-900U and if it does what attributes will it improve? We shall see…

What happens when you pair it with Luxman C900 U will it get back the musicality and sweetness you talked about M900 U BUT without losing the Base controll,Imaging,Sound stage,Slam and Dynamics inherent to it.
    Appreciate if you can reply.

I am from HONG KONG and like your video introducing me some very high quality and expensive hifi. Really appreciate!
I am thinking to upgrade my system. Interested in Kharma db7, Wilson audio Sabrina or Sabrina X and magico s1. My listening room is around 110 sq ft. and I listen all kind of music. Which speaker you will suggest and which amplifier(pre & power/integrated) would be best to the speaker. Budget for amplifier is below US20K.

    • @pannonianbrute
      @pannonianbrute 3 роки тому

Hey Matthew, if I may chip in: you should audition a PassLabs x150.8, should u get the chance; paired with a PassLabs or Audio Research preamp, it will almost guarantee musical bliss. I would be hard pressed to recommend anything more expensive until you give it a try, as power-wise this is plenty for the speakers you have in mind, and there is a certain magic to this particular amp. Also, very well rounded for a wide range of music.
Alternatively, any Audio Note system leaves few wanting, unless you need more “slam” than tubes can offer, as there is firm evidence (empirical and quantitative) supporting coherent system design, which most other companies do not offer. Well-matched impedances, for example trump expensive random components every time. Please note that I am not an impartial party, yet feel this advice would have benefited me greatly in the past.
