- Aerating a pond is important for aquatic life. Tractor Time with Tim & Christy are adding bottom aeration units from @NaturalWaterscapes that will use compressed air to release a column of bubbles that will rise to the surface exposing the water to oxygen rich air! The pond is slowly filling with water!

~500k gallons 5/8" hose ~60 psi, 300 feet long at ~6 gpm (w/ head loss). It will take about 57-60 days if you run it with constant flow, assuming leakage and absorption is minimal and the public education system hasn't failed me. Congratulations Tim!
along with leakage and absorption don't forget evaporation especially once you turn on the aerator. I have a liner based water feature and it is amazing the water that has to be added to maintain level.
I’m almost sad to see this project wrapping up, it’s been a great series!
I suggest putting a timer valve between the faucet and the hose. You probably don't want your pump and pressure switch continuously cycling over long periods of time. Give the components time to cool down. Like your videos and learn something on most of them! Keep up the good work!
Nope, best would be to override the pressure switch or turn it so high, that the pump doesnt stop.
It's amazing what you can accomplish
Just keep chipping away!
Wow. I’ve been busy and haven’t watched for a few weeks, it’s come so far. It looks really good, hopefully it’ll hold water great. :)
Welcome back, Shane. There is one more (later) video which has some good drone shots of the pond…check it out.
You could tie something like a duck decoy to each aerator with enough rope to reach the surface. It will mark the location and give you a method to raise it if needed
Viny just rolled down into the pond without any dramatics! One would not have known how amazing that was without seeing the tractors going in and out!
We truly appreciate and enjoy all your videos. The pond saga is legendary; what a wonderful job you've done. And you quote the Lord's Word which is the most important part. May God continue to bless you.
I love it when you two banter! You make a great team!
Rewatched! Fascinating channel and content! Thanks for sharing!
Absolutely fantastic video great camera shots it really captures the scale of this project. Great work Tim and Christy
You guys are going all out on the pond. Aerating the pond is a great idea. You are thinking it out. Enjoy your videos.
Congratulations getting to the fill stage. You both have persevered through a long and memorable project. I expect you all have content scheduled out for weeks, but would love to see a video on your new Ventrac loader and maybe a review of any snow removal attachments you have for it. We’ll look for a fill level update before church on Sunday.
Always love seeing Vinny ! Let’s get started .
The pallets are sure to capture fishing hooks and lures... 😉
Tim and Christy Im excited to see it full. Its been a great series of videos. I would say a couple of weeks. Have a happy Thanksgiving.
The pond is looking great guys! I'm sure it's a welcomed stress relief to get to the point of filling it. I've seen some ponds get sealed up by just spreading bentonite on the water of a full pond and letting it sink to the bottom. So I don't think what you did in the ruts is a waste of time at all Tim. Hope it fills up quickly for you. Now to go set up a multi-month time lapse!
Thanks Neil. Yea, you would setup a time-lapse. I don't have the foresight :-)
Thanks for watching!
@TractorTimewithTim You could use a Wyze or other inexpensive WiFi security cam and easily capture the photos, once an hour would be a good amount.
A big salute out to you and Christy, wishing for success with all the efforts y'all put into this project.
Interesting, informative and a fun watch.
Much appreciated!
Hi Tim, just catching your videos on the pond maker. For projects that I do such as installing deep foundations, etc we install recovery wells using 6 to 8 inch pipe, perforated holes with gravel surrounding the area we want to dry up. Inside the pipe you install a pump. It leaves you time to dry out the bottom and work in the bentonite. A tip for the future.
Great to be at the water filling stage of the pond project! It'll probably take a few weeks to reach the 6ft level.
In my area when people want to fill their pools for the summer the local fire departments ask you to call them. They fill their trucks from hydrants with a lot more volume than your standard household hydrant. This way it doesn't run up your water bill or put extra strain on your well components. Might be an option for filling the pond.
Water is Life, Tim. Our well produces 60 gallons a minute and I wouldn’t dare try and pump that much water into a man made pond from it. Can you imagine loosing your well and only having the pond as a water source? Best of luck to you!
Great video!
Thanks for the tractor and pond videos.
My dad is doing what you are as well and he has two tractors sitting in it. Too funny you made that statement.
Hi Tim. Im no well expert but have lived on a well for most of my life. I understand that you do not want to have the pump cycle on and off so many times in a short time. You can burn your pump out. Listen for cavitation from time to time. Thats a lot of water to be pumped constantly on a domestic well.
Enjoyed the pond series as well! Plus great to see Vinny as well!
Keep up the great work Tim
From top to bottom, that looks like a pretty deep pond once it fills up!
Excellent project.
Can’t wait to see it full Tim.
Let the water filling begin. Although it has been quite a project, I’m guessing you must be ready to “go with the flow” ;-) Blessings.
This is definitely an adventure. Thanks for all the hard work and information. I am continually amazed at what these small tractors can do. I am coming up on the 50 hour service for my Branson/TYM 2515 and even in the short amount of time I have had working with it the information on this channel has proven to be a great asset. Fixing the grade on our front yard is rapidly approaching and will give me a chance to try out our tiller and learn the box blade! Even a side job has yielded benefits. I mowed a front and back field (aka yard) for a lady and on the side of here garage was an old tractor tire. That is being hooked to a chain to make a drag to help smooth the front yard when I get that project going.
Thank you for all you show us and for giving us first time tractor owners at least a modicum of knowledge as we wade into our own adventures!
LMAO 😂😂😂 Christy and her dumping stuff in the pond! Love it!
Burying stuff in the bottom of the pond - like those pavers.... Love it, I've got a pile of them under some of the grading around our new barn/shop. Happy Thanksgiving Tim and Christy, Congratulations on your Daughters Engagement!!!
This video in the series shows the scale of the pond better than any previous. You've done some great work round the top of the pond and it's really starting to come together! Ponds take ages to fill - my guess for nose height is 4-6 weeks (if you don't have any monster storms!) It'll be great to hear your plans for planting (if you're adding any plants?) and fish stocking while we wait for it to fill. 👍
It’s been years and things change but in Nebraska the Fisheries Division of the Game and Parks Commission would assist landowners with stocking recommendations and sometimes have excess fingerlings for free from hatchery overstock. Looks like they built in some good structure for natural reproduction. Lots of additional structure ideas out on the net. Christmas trees only last a couple years. Big enough to hunt ducks over too if your into that kind of thing. If Canadians start to settle in get rid of them as quickly as you possibly can they are VERY destructive.
Good morning. Tim this has been a great series on this development of your pond. I’m gifted with a much smaller pond on my property. My sump pump from the house and our
Eaves trough are both connected to our pond. Don’t know if you have that option but it’s a great way to divert the water. Our well is what they call artesian we can uncap it during the summer months and it too is piped to drain into the pond. I cap it over the winter as we like in Michigan and I don’t want the well head exposed. Just throwing some options out for other ways of getting water to the pond. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe
The loader on the Ventrac looks coool!:D
Best of luck on the pond
Cannot wait for the update!
Great work
GREAT Video! It will be nice to see what it looks like in the spring!!! 😮😅
I hope all that work does the trick and the pond fills up.
I sure do hope this works and gives you a nice pond!
Will be nice to see a Timelapse of the pond filling, if you chose to film one. Definitely need the clock or calendar in the corner depending on the actual fill rate. 😂 water can come up very quickly if your not watching. I used to dispatch a pumped hydro plant and on my day off I visited it with family. Was at the boat ramp looking at the water. Did a few quick calculations in my head and made a bet with my sister. Wow you can hardly see the water coming up. To which she said the waters not coming up are you crazy. I set a piece of driftwood at the water line and said how long till it’s drifting in the water. Her response was we will be home before that happens. My guess was 10min. Still regret not making it a actual bet. Can always need someone else’s money. 😂 She’s like, That’s crazy where’s it all coming from. The power house across the pond here. They are generating. She still couldn’t believe that the elevation changes that much. I said come over here and. Pointed out some daises that were under about 3’ of water by the edge of the ramp. Asked her, you really think those are aquatic daisies that grew there under the water. 😂
I say you will keep filling until your well lets you know it’s time to stop. Hopefully your sealer works and water doesn’t keep absorbing into the ground taking longer to fill. This has been fun to watch. Thanks again for sharing guys.
You guys did a great job Tim. Far better pond engineering than most folks would have done. I sense it is going to work out great. May want to give your well pump a break every once in a while. May take a few weeks to fill that pond and that is a lot of work on your main pump. My first guess is you probably wouldn't mind if a good 2-3" rain event took place or a good blizzard hit.
My first year with an aerator was not good. The air line froze up in the coldest part of winter, mid January. I believe it froze where the air line was near the water line. Yes, I buried the air line in the mud as far out as I could in the water when it was installed. In the spring I had a large number of fish frozen in the ice that had died. Going forward, I only run the aerator from May through October. Along with chemicals, now my pond stays mostly clear and the fish seem to be doing well. My pond is about 3/4 acre and 18 feet deep at the deepest part. It is very much bowl shaped.
On your well, I would run enough flow to keep the pump running continuously so it does not cycle constantly. Good luck with your pond! It looks great!
Only install the aerators when you are ready to use them! If left without working debris and algae can clog them. Also you may have to weigh the aerators heads to keep them in one spot and from floating to the surface. Best Regards, Jay
I agree with a few others here that you will need a new well pump and perhaps a few other things that will go out running the pump all the time. If you see a discoloration in the water in house you better stop and check things out. My guess is 2 1/2 months to fill to where your nose would have been as you will not be standing in the water in January I hope! I really do hope the aerators stay in place as your going to get wet trying to put them back without weight on them holding them down. Great project Tim and Christy and I sure hope it works!
Ive been subscribed for years and i just checked and had to resubscribe
Thanks for checking!
Rural King carries a good quality 3/4 inch industrial garden hose. It’s not cheap, but it didn’t kink. It would also roll up in a stack without too much problem. The pond project is looking good.
Nice Vid!
Enjoy your videos.
What Stoney Ridge Farm housed Pond Seal that he throw accross the water. He claims by the water leaking out that the seal blocks any leakage in your pond.
My grandson is ready to fish from the pallets since he says the top is too far from the water. Vinny looks good with his new loader on.
He’s right!!!
I own a half acre pond at 13 ft deep with a solar powered aerator that I built. For what it's worth I get about 2 years on a diffuser before it develops algae build up and doesn't allow air to pass through. I now tie 2 duck decoys to it so I can kayak out and pull it up vs pulling all of your hose back from the shore side. I'm just trying to prevent you from placing your aerator so it snags on a pallet.
Ugh. That is not good. Thx for advice. I just didn’t want something floating out there.
I’m with Christy 2 weeks. The cat likes hanging around with yas 👍🏻
My guess is a week and a half to get it to your nose. To fill it completely, it’ll take a month and a new well pump! 😮
Tim if you're worried about your well I would do a 2500 gallon poly tank with a booster pump that would be easier on your well then use your straight out of your well just to fill
I live in Texas I know y'all have different whales up there then what we do down here but usually when somebody fills up a pond like that we usually install on their well a 2500 gallon poly tank or bigger than that $3,000 or $5,000 gallon we put two float switches in the tank one for lock out for the booster pump and one for the well to activate to fill up the tank and then use the booster pump to push water and it would fill up that pond way faster than you're doing now I'm just saying it would help your well sir if you need any advice
The only time it's a problem having a spring running into your pond at lower levels is if / when the spring runs dry. We've dug many ponds over the years in an area of the country where underground springs are fairly common. We've hit them at depths anywhere from 5 ft to 10 ft and none of the ponds have ever gone dry or ever even come close to going dry. Good luck with yours. What type of soil do you have?
A little trick for assembling the hose. To lubricate the hose, use a little spray of "Brake Cleaner" inside the hose and on the nipple. Assemble immediately before the brake cleaner evaporates. The best part is once the brake cleaner finishes evaporating the lubricating factor is gone allowing the hose to grip tighter.
That's certainly need to see on a pond. I'd be curious to see what it does with algae which could show up.
Use them edge tammers this winter and push snow into the pond so it melts and fills it in the spring.
The pond looks great. At that rate I say 3 month's. With of course a few breaks. You do not want to run your Well Dry.
Truevalue
@CountryViewAcres Evan, I think Tim just called you out at the 11:35 mark. ;)
Great to see the new Ventrac Loader on Vinnie. Can we expect a weight test to compare to other subcompact and small compact tractors? Inquiring minds want to know. 😆 LOL
We could do that I suppose!
That's alot of water, I'm thinking 60 days and hopefully not a well pump. Electric bill is going to be interesting. You definitely took on a major project, hopefully it makes you a beautiful pond.
Have a nice Thanksgiving and its going to take quite a while the (utahUPman) has It in the ballpark,Can't wait to see what it looks like in a couple of weeks, Love seeing vinny at work
Fingers crossed
yep stay there
"I make big ruts and I cannot lie!". Sorry, I couldn't resist. Some fruit is just too low hanging to pass up. 🤣
Three weeks!
got to love 9 wheels
9?
It would be easy to burn up a pump motor using it continuously. When we fill our pool to filter height in the spring we do so over two days; an hour on and an hour rest for 8 hours with a 3/4 hose. I’d say 4 weeks to fill the pond unless you have significant storms.
You know, if you dig out a properly shaped side channel, your pond could be the millennium falcon 😁
Looking great! 30 days to your nose level.
Was afraid Christy might leave Tim in the pond (something she wants to get rid of). Ha-Ha. As the elevation gets higher the volume flares faster and faster. It will take years to fill with the hose. A spring flood would do it but not help the neighbor's fields. You could show us how to drill a shallow well (away from the house well aquifer) for watering and washing equipment. Great looking pond. Interesting videos. Thanks and take care.
At you may want to talk to your local volunteer Fire Department for a location for a tanker shuttle drill. The amount of water they can moved could drastically increase the level of water in just a couple of hours.
Hopefully your well pump doesn’t burn up.
Try use damit dam saeler it is non toxic and very efficient.
Have you had dry weather that allowed you to do this excavation? Normally the ground water level appears to be naturally higher, based on past videos.
I think with just the yellow hose and no rain it will never fill it up hardly at all with evaporation and seepage it may go down.
long time....but agree with Christy that it is time to move on to the new projects....
not 3 days - 2 weeks is closer
rural king has hose
+
Que the music 🎶 😅 thinking 6 days to get it as deep as u want it for now
I'm wondering if running the aeration a few times off and on for a short time would help keep sediment out of the heads from building up until you run it in normal mode. Just a thought
Well 1/4 acre is 10890 square feet so 5 feet deep is 54900 cubic feet. There is 7.48 gallons in a cubic foot, that makes 410,652 gallons. Say you are getting 4 gallons a minute flow out of that hose that would mean it will take about 72 days. The area of the base of the pond is less then the 1/4 acre so I will say 60 days
You’ll fill it by spring 2024. Let God do it for ya.
Nice work! Is there any concern with the aerators filling with sediment or minerals with it sitting not in use?
Tim I'd be careful about just letting the water run all the time, a few stories...my dad built a house bak in the 70's and asked the neighbor to use their outside spigot to water the new lawn, he did so for about 5 hours until the well ran dry & sand was coming out the end of the hose!. Another story...my neighbor filled up his in ground pool, his & our wells ran dry, it took several days for the water to be normal again. I also want to mention that most homes with wells have a small holding tank (with a bladder) so there really isn't that many gallons in the tank, which means your well pump will be gong on & off a lot which could burn out the pump.
So you might want to call up your local volunteer fire dept. and see if they want to use your pond for fire hose practice LOL!
You might want to call a pool water truck in to get you started, when they finish their delivery mark the water level and see if the pond really can hold water.....good luck!
This will take a lot longer than you are thinking to fill. While your sides are nearly vertical, each foot of slope adds more volume. I would estimate that looking at your flow from the hose you were around 3 gallons a minute. I estimate you have close to 1 Million Gallons of water in that pond. It would take about 231 days at that flow not accou ting for seepage, inflow, and evaporation.
If u want it that deep in 3 days u better order a bunch of water trucks to help fill it. 4 or 5 weeks might get it there
I am a logger down in the Bristol Va area and ive learned this running skidders its usaly when you are in mid turn when they wana roll over ... i actualy just about cut my big toe off last wensday with a saw yhea i guess i wont be doing much for a few days
Uhoh!
I wish we had access to a feller buncher for some work on my mom’s farm in IL.
The feds allow us to take out the trees, but not the stumps. We would love to make this area mowable after tree removal.
To find your own answer to how long it will take to fill, find out your pumps GPM output, find out how many acre feet is your ponds capacity, take a long break to cry about the reality of the matter. Decide if it's worth calling a well service to put in a municipal sized well or just run your residential well far beyond it's intended use.
👍👍
Well, for some ballpark math, a 1/4 acre pond to Tim's nose, say about 5 feet deep would be just over 400,000 gallons. If you're getting say 5 gallons per minute flow, that would be 55 1/2 days. It looks like the deep section is roughly half of the total area of the pond, so I'll guess about a month.
What's the dimension of your pond now? Looks great!
Here's hoping that you set up a time lapse camera for the filling?
I seen a farmer use a roller on his after it was finished.!!!
