You, on the other hand are the ultimate critique, always looking to get a jab in at the current champion, with a negative and skeptical over tone, unless of course the grip fits your hand well! But I thank you for your unbiased and clear-eyed disclosure of the true difference between old and new. I had just viewed the TacticalBassin pre-order video and yours was so much better in terms of information! The improvements in this new + line shouldn't be discounted (even in appearance) because they didn't create new technology, but integrated existing but missing technology from Shimano. That's how great companies are built! You took it easy on ole Loomis on this review! I'd love to see a review on the new 6'10" 821S NRR (ned rig rod) and try to determine if the differences between so many of their similar rods (drop shot, shakey head) really make a difference for the ned rig specific application.

Just wanted to say thanks for review. A local shop has an old model nxt 872 for $440.00 dollars and wasn’t sure if I would be better off getting the new model or not. Now I’ll save $185.00. Thanks
Great video, and thanks for the honesty. I have the old 872S and love it, but I have been thinking of getting another....so this one's on my radar. Even just the handle upgrade is worth it i think.
Thanks once again for a great video. I agree with you on my experience using both the old NRX and the new + model. I’m a spinning rod only angler, and it would not be necessary to upgrade from the NRX to the NRX+ to have a fantastic fishing experience. If, however, you are getting your first NRX, it certainly makes sense to opt for the + because of the added extras Loomis has made. Love the reel seat a lot. I have an inshore NRX that uses this reel seat with the old blank and just think it is a really comfortable fishing tool. Because most of the older versions are no longer available, just get the new +…!
Do you think that the 902 is the best rod in the lineup to keep fish pinned on small hooks? I want to improve my landing ratio for finesse applications like net Riggs, small, paddle tail, swim, baits, drop shots, small top waters
@@rich5916 there’s no doubt the 902 is really a great finesse rod and I have used it a lot when drop shot fishing with small hooks. It keeps fish pinned extremely well especially using light (6 lb) Fluoro/mono lines. I really like the ability to cast a drop shot with this rod instead of just dropping straight down. Working the rig back to me has been a very effective method for skittish fish and it allows for flawless hook sets I believe because of the way the rod is designed. I really like this rod.
@@tedlarrabee9278 awesome! I like the action of medium lights but mine are 7 ft and 6’11 so I think the medium won’t be too powerful on the 7’6 especially if it has an nice parabolic bend. Any other rods on the market that come close?
@@rich5916 for the US market, the NRX is special. If you want to try something completely different, you might consider researching some of the Japanese Domestic Market rods designed for a truly “finesse” experience. I went down this rabbit hole a while ago and haven’t turned back. Currently, I am collecting several “ShoreGame” rods that are literally amazing. There are an infinite number of rods and applications, but no one designs better finesse rods than the Japanese. The US market differs a lot because we tend to want a versatile rod than can do many different jobs. The Japanese design a rod for very specific applications. As with the US market, great rods are produced all over the place including China, and the Japanese are no different. It’s their design and engineering specs that are made under close supervision regardless of where the factory might be located. I would note, however, that rods actually made in Japan are works of art with an attention to detail not matched anywhere else.
@@tedlarrabee9278 thank you Ted. I do want to stick to the more versatile side of things. I’d like to be able to throw Ned rigs, 2.8 paddletails, okashira screwheads, dropshot, and even small top waters and most importantly have a very high landing percentage after hooking up with a fish. I seem to be losing a lot of fish with the medium or medium light rods that are 7ft or under. I want parabolic and sensitive so it seems like nrx 902 will be the best bet. Any experiences with the 901?
Was interested to see what these things looked like. Guess Loomis took the ol if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. I bought a nrx about two years ago love the rod but kinda questioned the purchase a little. This year had some out no where health issues arrive. Haven’t hardly been able to fish but when I have that rod is go to just from pure weight and of course they sensitivity is amazing. I must say if you got joint neck back problems these rods can really make fishing a little easier on ya. Great review 👍🏻 🎣
I broke my nrx 852 rod by my on fault . customer service said the would get me a new rod .it was the plus. I could fill the difference in sensitivity and power the plus is slightly better .I don't like the hookset at bottom of rod ( takes time to get used to) and I do miss all the blue wrapping ,but I understand what you said also. Just my preference. Thanks for your review
Hey Bro, just a heads up, I broke 3(three) guides from my conquest 844 this season. Sent the rod in(to loomis warranty) and heard back from Loomis in a week. They said they will be replace the rod instead of repairing the guides. Was kind of surprised to hear that, but I’m totally cool with a brand new conquest. Lol
@@PunchFishing Mostly thrown spinnerbaits and underspins with it. That's something I've always done with the G Loomis 3 power MBRs, most recently the GLX 843 was my go to for single hook moving baits. I'll probably toss lighter t rigs and jigs with it as well, it's hard to argue the versatility of the MBRs. Obviously it's incredibly light, but the power was something I didn't expect. Maybe I should have since I am experienced with the Conquest. I myself am a fan of the Shimano tech on the Loomis side, I know some guys aren't. At the end of the day, it's gonna be hard to not like this rod.
@@PunchFishing thanks for your answer, I think I need one of those rods. I am already on the list since 2 months but they didn't arrived in Germany yet 😔
Hello Brian. I noticed in a couple of your videos that you said it is crazy to pay asking price for G Loomis and RX and that if you have a local shop nearby to contact them well I live in the middle of nowhere I was wanting to know if I could get a name of a shop you recommend up there I could call and have one shipped to
I noticed that North Fork Composites is supposed to be dropping what are supposedly NEW cutting edge Blanks that they claim are unlike anything available elsewhere period. If this is the case, I'll be building my own rods instead. Then I won't have to wait on Customer Service if I mess it up, and I'll just argue with myself... LOL.
Very good review but I believe you missed a vital change. The new NRX+ has a new exclusive GL8 nano resin developed by Steve Rajeff himself. Compared to the old GL7 resin, the GL8 has the ability to bond itself to the graphite whereas the GL7 like other nano resins, needs an additional product to make that bond. This reduces the amount of the resin layer thus reducing the weight and adds even more strength vs the older GL7. Less weight, more strength= better...
Brian do you hair jig for SMB in your home state of MN? I've been reading all sorts of threads about gear, mostly rods, like the NRX 901/902, SC Legend Elite. the Daiwa 7'6 Feider rod, all longer ML, or M/ML spinning rods. I have the NRX872S, and although it's 7'3 and not 7'6 like most of the other rods listed, I was hoping you'd share your opinion, because I know you are fond of this (pre-NRX+) model . I also have the GLX 892S. I'm thinking with 10 or 8# braid to a 6# leader with my new Exsence 3000, either rod but preferably the 872S might be a good setup for hair jigs in the 3/32, 1/8 and 3/16 oz. weight range. I will go ahead and try that setup next spring, but as always do value your experience, esp. with these higher end rods. So if possible please weigh in. Thanks much!
Thanks for the overview and first impressions. As much as i'd love to grab some more NRX's it just isn't in the budget for me right now. My current 873CRR has been putting in work for me this year along with the Megabass Levante's I have. I have the 873 in my hands way more than I thought I would as i've traditionally been a moving bait kinda guy but slow fishing a texas rig has been money this year.
Honestly I wouldn't consider the Conquest to be THAT much more sensitive than the NRX series (if at all), but it does have that killer ultra-durable finish, torzite guides, and more versatile rods in the lineup with the MBR's in the casting series. Look at a NRX after 3-4 years of hard use and look at Conquest after 3-4 years of hard use, the NRX will look really beat up but the Conquest will look like new.
Hi do you guy's still get a lifetime warranty as the nrx + is about to be released in Australia with only a 12 month warranty? Starting from $769.00 .....
So I do not own an nrx, I run mostly exprides, but I am interested in buying one because of the legendary sensitivity I have seen in comments and reviews. I am curious did you drag, or drop shot deep with this new model surely you could have compared the two for sensitivity just like you did when you did a dobyns review against exprides. Thanks for the videos they are by far the most informative gear reviews.
You mentioned the blank seems a bit faster on the + than the old NRX, will it change what you throw with it? Or still close enough to the old to not change techniques?
Well, I guess I got a bit impatient and just received my new NRX+ 821S NRR. Now I'm considering a suitable spinning reel - considering a Daiwa Certate LT maybe the 2500-XH or 3000-CXH? But having enjoyed so many of your reviews I'm concerned about what weight reel might balance best with the rod. Also, the Certates are kind of heavy, but maybe this rod needs a 7+ oz. reel? Or maybe should I sit tight and wait on availability of Shimano Exsence 3000 (6.3 oz.). I have one already and it's been really special, but none around for at least another month. Any ideas?
I bought one because I found it at 40% off the price. I like the nrx+ because of the handle. The rest is whatever. I hate the hook keeper location. Overall nice rod but would I spend 625 on it….no
The balance point probably moved the 1/4" because of the relocation of the hook keeper. I have a 9 wt. NRX+ fly rod and think it gained more performance than the spinning.
@@PunchFishing u didn't mention it, but I am in the camp that is open minded to location move of that hook keeper just about anywhere other than where they had it. Their location is the same on all Loomis rods and I am one of many who can not stand when the line grabs and hangs on that hook keeper in the midst of a forcefull cast. Just seems wrong that they did not forsee that in their initial placement design. And it happens more often than once a blue moon! We'll see the tradeoff over time.
Got 893+ in my opinion it would have more beneficial for them to have swapped the spiral x out for torzite guides…. Honestly the rod is a bit too stiff and tell me why a $650 rod comes with recoil guides? St croix legend series comes in at $200 cheaper and they have torzite. Kinda just seems like a money grab by g loomis
I can't imagine they don't replace rods with NRX+'s. I doubt they have any stock of the old ones laying around. I've heard the wait for replacement rods might run into fall/winter though.
The blank is "new" in that they designed it with Spiral X which is an additional process in the blanks creation. I guess it depends on what your definition of new is.
@@PunchFishing Thanks that what i wondering i thought i heard the blank was from another source their poprietry right to blank expired or something or another along those lines.
Thanks for the review. I didn’t see footage of the recoil Guides or did I miss that part? Anyway the Conquest lineup is still King if i listen closely? Bc of Torzite and SpiralX & HighpowerX combined technology?
as I'm finishing my transition from the older nrx models to the +, there's no doubt that the new ones are a little bit more stiffer, witch is something i do not like, disappointed....
New nrx+ are much more expensive than the old ones. I didn't even bother to buy the new nrx+. Conquest rod has gone up to 800 usd, i got a few from 2018 that were at $650. Found a new favorite rod, the st croix legend xtreme with the ags guides.
I don't think anyone could run ALL NRX+ rods because there isn't enough diversity in the lineup. Megabass has rods that cover virtually EVERY kind of presentation across multiple price points.
@@PunchFishing not true! G.Loomis covers many price points and all forms of fishing including fly fishing and ocean. G Loomis rods just cost more. They have top water all the down to bottom contact presentation. Megabass makes awesome rods as well in all the same actions at a lower price point. Some people drive Hondas and some drive Fords Or you can have both. Gotta pay to play and if that rod you want is in your budget. Awesome.e video and review and will continue to watch.
@@PunchFishing megabass isn't just one rod either it's a brand. NRX is one rod in the G loomis brand. I own megabass rods as well.. dobyns. Wasn't bashing any of the thoughts or ideas. I Would say just in NRX alone you can cover every category in fishing.. you have 16 casting rods. 12 spinning rods to choose from. Use a fair comparison. You wouldn't say megabass Orochii line covers every category either. And read the original question. He asked about the brand.

@@PunchFishing hey puch fishing one thing I didn't tell you I use to use 300 dollar rods from 4 or 5 different companies and I was not happy with any of them they put cheap reel seats on not enough guides but I will admit they sensitive and balanced. But Brian I will admit the rods you use from megabass they put quality components but there's not enough guides on these rods see Brian I'm not a braid guy anymore I like micro guides and Alot of guys don't like them because they can't get there leader through and now when you use a leader and that's two places where your line can break and the main reason I don't use braid is your going to get less bits I don't care what these pro fisherman say I'm almost 60 yrs old and it's a fact they can see that line it arc's in the water and it's floating right in front of them and the only place they can't see it is in the grass because it blends in.

I just got another NRX plus 853c and it’s amazing. This thing feels more sensitive to me. Am I crazy and the blank feels stronger
After this much time, how do you like that rod? Would you get it for a kayak 3/8 oz jig rod?
Is there much difference between the 852s and the 872s I fish a lot of rivers and creeks for smallmouth and a lot of bottom bouncing. Thanks
Yes, believe it or not there is. The 872s has a softer more whippy tip. I did a review on it if you look in my video history.
@@PunchFishing other than the tip section would you say the 872s & 852s feature the same power blank or is one "stronger " than the other?
So answer this if you had a old NRX conquest snd new NRX which do you keep? can only have one assuming all else’s is equal length snd power
Ummm give me a specific model. 😁
@@PunchFishing med power NRX+ MBR vs zConauest MBR
Any ideas?
I wouldn't worry too much about a ounce here and there! If you love the Exsence then i'd wait until you can snag another one.
Great theory!
Are you on the tackletour forums?
I am not! I should be, but I have a feeling I'd get roasted on there lol.
@@PunchFishing Lol why for putting 200-250 dollar reels on super high end rods?
@@russhaight3225 🤷♂️
Has Loomis said what they’ll do with their expeditor program if someone breaks their current NRX’s?
I can't imagine they don't replace rods with NRX+'s. I doubt they have any stock of the old ones laying around. I've heard the wait for replacement rods might run into fall/winter though.
@@PunchFishing yikes!! Although cool of them to replace with NRX+’s, would be brutal to wait that long.
I heard something about the blank changing from old to new nrx series Is this true?
The blank is "new" in that they designed it with Spiral X which is an additional process in the blanks creation. I guess it depends on what your definition of new is.
@@PunchFishing Thanks that what i wondering i thought i heard the blank was from another source their poprietry right to blank expired or something or another along those lines.
That's ridiculous lol. Loomis makes everything from start to finish in house, by hand. That's why they are so expensive!
Is there a big difference on sensitivity?
There's literally no way to tell.
GREAT REVIEW
Thank you!
Great video...Thank You!
Thanks for the review. I didn’t see footage of the recoil Guides or did I miss that part?
Anyway the Conquest lineup is still King if i listen closely? Bc of Torzite and SpiralX & HighpowerX combined technology?
It's got recoil guides, I kept saying "Rec" because that's the name of the company that makes recoil. Not sure why I kept doing that.
So I should just get the conquest over the new nrx
Hell the demand for the conquest is a lot lower. You could probably find one on a discount cheaper than an NRX
Conquest has a better guide train and is a more durable rod. If those matter to you then I would say go Conquest.
Also depends on which model you want. NRX + has quite a few more to choose from that are not in the Conquest line up.
as I'm finishing my transition from the older nrx models to the +, there's no doubt that the new ones are a little bit more stiffer, witch is something i do not like, disappointed....
New nrx+ are much more expensive than the old ones. I didn't even bother to buy the new nrx+. Conquest rod has gone up to 800 usd, i got a few from 2018 that were at $650.
Found a new favorite rod, the st croix legend xtreme with the ags guides.
Man I love those Exsence reels...wish I could find one.
I've been blessed to find some used ones over the last few months off Facebook groups.
Corey, Tracy Glascock of Bypass Bait & Tackle said he had them In Stock a few days back.
@@ThomasMichaelSeaboldt Bypass is awesome!
@@PunchFishing I agree, I won't hesitate to purchase from them again. I don't think too many places can touch their everyday prices.
@@ThomasMichaelSeaboldt Tracy is a standup dude.
If you could only run ONE brand of rod, which would it be? GLoomis NRX+ or Megabass?
@@OneHittr-24-7 He said NRX+ vs Megabass, not IMX and GLX and whatever else.
@@OneHittr-24-7 Yeah Travis quit running your gums
@@PunchFishing megabass isn't just one rod either it's a brand. NRX is one rod in the G loomis brand. I own megabass rods as well.. dobyns. Wasn't bashing any of the thoughts or ideas. I Would say just in NRX alone you can cover every category in fishing.. you have 16 casting rods. 12 spinning rods to choose from. Use a fair comparison. You wouldn't say megabass Orochii line covers every category either. And read the original question. He asked about the brand.
Question which model of the Nrx plus would you recommend ?
For what techniques? There's a lot of NRX models nowadays.
@@PunchFishing I what one that’s 30lb
Do you think the spiral x would effect the sensitivity at all?
I don't know how you would even know if it did.
@@PunchFishing yea idk i was just curious ur opinion on that. You would think having the tape in there would do something to it? Thanks for the great reviews, rob snobs unite!
Does your code work for these rods?
Unfortunately Loomis and Shimano are code protected.
Them recoil guides on a $700 + no way not for me
$700?
Don’t buy an NRX for 700…or any rod for that matter. You can get a conquest for $5-600 if you play your cards right…
I bought it poison glorious 268M+ !!I have a lot of regret !! a great stick extremely sensitive rod, very light ! unfortunately, there's no room in the Kind of water I fish!
You're not the first person I've heard say they don't like how soft the Glorious rods are.
This rod is spinning m+ the tip is medium regular and the rest off the rod is MH fast
@@PunchFishing He didn't even say that? They're not soft at all specific models possibly but most are extremely crisp.
Tequila Baccarac next please (:
With my boat being down right now that review's going to be very delayed.
watch them drop the "NRXII" by end of the year...lmfaoo.
Basically paying for the “+” LOL.
Blank............most impt is the blank.................sensitivity !!!!!!
Hey man there is no fishing rod on this planet that is worth that kind of money. Ridiculous waste of money especially with the technology these days your insane spending that kind of money I don't care if you're a millionaire it's still a waste of money. All your paying for is a name.
😂😂
Hello, I'm French and escuse for my American language.
I search a rod in 3/4 OZ to fish with jearkbait and soft lures.
I search a all around model spinning.
I seat this one g loomis 853C JWR (7'1" Medium Heavy) but she is in 3/8.
I see nrx + 843 SJR spin jig.
Can you help me to to the good choise.?
