I wish that I could walk into Kirk Hammets house, smash every wah that he owns, of which I'm sure there are HUNDREDS, and scream, " PLEASE PLAY SOMETHING WITHOUT A DAMN WAH WAH PEDAL!!!!!!! It doesn't make you sound better, and it doesn't cover up subpar playing.✌️
Just wanted to say thanks Robert. Im 32 and just started playing guitar about 6 months ago. Your videos always give me ideas to practice on and inspiration to keep learning and getting better. I love it. Anyway rambling done. Thanks man
I'm sure someone else beat me to this, but to get the perfect sound of Money For Nothing-use a wah pedal about 1/3 open. The real sound was kind of an accident. If I recall correctly it had something to do with accidental phase cancellation between the channels on the mixer used for the lead guitar, and was left in. Anyway, yes Mr. Baker- wah can be easily overused. I stand guilty of having fallen into that trap! Carry on the great videos!
On Philip McKnight's channel he was selling a bunch of gear a few weeks back. I bought a mini cry baby wah from him and use it on my Marshall DSL40C. Never used one before. Love the wah for that little extra touch!
I use the Mark tremonti, morley ! No on or off switch ! A slight adjustment after the factory and it's there when you need it. With a booster knob for soloing ! Enough to cut through the mix !
I have a Dunlop Custom Audio Electronics wah I got about a month ago. Great sound, it has two modes and a boost switch. Since I'm a big Soundgarden fan I had to get the same wah Kim Thayil uses. Turning on the boost with the wah down makes a really good lead tone.
I use a George Dennis optical wah/volume unit, no crackle etc. They sound best with flange/delay imo, unless you're doing Hawkwind. Not keen on the saturated distortion sound
I thought the Immigrant Song, Layla, & Pour Some Sugar on Me sounded fantastic with the Wah!!! Gave it a nice new flavor. I use the Slash Cry Baby Wah, I love the overdrive switch on it. It’s super nice when you’re playing something heavy & you want just a little more bite from your Wah tone
I have a 25 y/o Dunlop Cry Baby. BUT! I just bought an Ibanez WH10 v2 to get the Froosh ( that's what I call Frusciante) tone and I ❤️ it. It's got more range, fits on my board better (KEY) and I really just like it a lot. I've had to do some soldering on the Dunlop and although it doesn't really effect it, I feel like it makes it more scratchy. Anyhow, ❤️ the channel, bruh!! Please, keep up the good work and I hope you have an amazing weekend!! ✌️✌️🎶🎶🎵
First song I heard with wah in it was Cream's Tales of brave Ulysses. It's still the only song that benefits from wah. Mainly it doesn't work with melody lines or riffs as it kills tone and attack, but is OK with chords when you're trying to cover up mistakes.
Using a Dunlop Mini-Crybaby. Like how it fits on a board. It has three different eq settings which I like as the wah interacts differently from guitar to guitar and amp to amp. I've done the wah trick to add some spice to playing in a band when there are no overdubs or other guitars in the mix. I like to use the wah for main riffs and solos. But for vocal accompaniment, I prefer to keep it simple.
Have a basic GCB95 from dunlop, but i modded it and now it has no buffer anymore and a LED-Indication when turned on. I also decreased the range in the upper register in order to make it as you said less naisely.
Having even the tiniest bit of cry to my Tone just works for so much of what I play. You've got to have some output to get the strummy stuff to not get muddy but palm mutes sound sick. Great vid, really dig the Custom.
The Friedman is my most favoritest wah ever. I usually just use the middle toggle setting. Mild, but love it. Especially love how it has an always-on output buffer, which meant I could take my Analogman buffer (which is a fantastic buffer) off my board and save room.
1. Slash has his own immigrant song «standing in the sun» same key and almost riff. With a q zone(wah that is standing still) 🤘🏻😎 love em both 2. Wah for some funk and solos(not all of em) is cool 😍😍😍 Rocking 2 wahs( one on the home Board and band Board) Slash 18v wah (home) Slash 9 v wah (band) + qzone pedal so Guess 2,5 wah
Steve Vai’s bad horsie is on my board. I threw done the $$$ for a limited edition (special Vai Art) ad horsie. I also have a Hendrix Dunlop wah. Mississippi Queen sounds good with some slight wah accents
back in the day , jammed out by the airport, Morley wah would pick up air traffic control. Always had My wah handy for ez tonal adjust for those dead sounding venues, cut above the din.
Hi Robert, the wah wah pedal sounded pretty good. I liked Layla and the Immigrant song the best. I associate the wah wah pedal with White Room by Cream. I have used the Crybaby brand wah wah pedal. I like it the best! 🎸
The best wah pedal ever ! Original crybaby. Battery only . The vintage model doesn't have a 9 volt plug in . Battery powered only. Its not a printed board. Has actual resistors etc like an old radio. It has a totally different sound, tone etc. Mine was stolen 25+ year's ago. Looks like a basic crybaby but no 9volt side jack. Just 2 jack inputs in & out for guitar cable. If you can find one i promise you will love it !!! ✌
Wah in moderation is cool. It’s usually overused, but I think can add a little something. But outside of overdrive/distortion, reverb and delay...all other modulation can be cool in moderation. Flange can be great, look how EVH used it, but it wasn’t on ALL the time.
I have 3 wahs that I use. Dunlop Crybaby, Moer Mod Factory ( auto wah ) and an ART SGX rack unit ( auto wah and pedal ). Wah is like Franks Hot Sauce, " I put that . . . "
Maybe I shouldn't post because I have never used a wah pedal before. But I do believe that when an artist records a song, they do what they do for a reason. Now every band has their out takes and they pick which is the best recording.Sometime a wah pedal is good. Sometimes it's bad. But we all learn by just playing.
Robert, I'll admit that I'm not as much of a wah fan as I used to be, but I'll also admit to being fortunate enough to own a 70s Cry Baby. I bought it new and then gigged with it -- back in the days before anyone (or at least I) ever thought of mounting pedals on a board for simplicity, portability, reliability and security. Naturally, it got SERIOUSLY beat up over the years. Always sounded good, though. For the day-to-day Basement Boogie, though, I've gone digital. Now, I have models of both the Cry Baby and Clyde McCoy wahs -- and I rarely use either of them. Still like the sound, though!😎❤️️🎸‼️
I know this is a few days ago so you might not reply but my first Marshall, the DSL20CR, is gonna be here in 2 days. What riffs and licks are absolutely necessary to play through an all tube Marshall?
Wah is one of my favorites effects. it's just a beyond fun and dynamic tool to have. My mom bought me my first Wah pedal. She was super mad while hunting for the right Wah. No Funk artists had a signature. Super Determined she had to get a Cry Baby but not the standard one. Man I love the Slash signature Cry Baby it does Everything. I will never not have a Wah from now on. that was a Christmas gift about 2 years ago. So awesome .
Oh at the hammster jokes!! I have a Dunlap Jerry Cantrell that I love and a bad horsie. The Cantrell blows away the Morley but I do like the switchless action
I have an old Vox and it was like an ice pick until it got older. I have no idea why? I don’t know what causes it but at and I would put it away and bring it out every once in awhile but after 15 years it seems to have mellowed out now.
Carried away on wah, Jimi Rainy Day Dream Away on Electric Lady Land combined with some serious stereo separation, listen to that on headphones, it's so mind bending you'll be literally blown away, kind of messes with your equilibrium. I have a Dunlop original cry baby from the 80's, has that weird non standard power supply jack, one day I'd like to find one with more range, a broader tone sweep like Jimi seemed to have. The wah has a lot of use like Mark Knopfler and his cocked wah on Money for Nothing.
Uh oh...Don Henley’s goatee is on Fire now, you played something close to an Eagles tune. Anyway, wah is a great taste that tastes great with everything. So, I use my Wylde CryBaby a ton. Mainly because I suck, but it sounds pretty decent.
Imigrant song: If you listen closely to the recorded version, there is a second guitar doing scratch rhythm and stab chords that does have a wah on it. Life in the Fast Lane: A wah on that makes it sound even more like Willy The Pimp Layla: would be cool if the wah were turned on for the chords but left off for the melodic fill.
Post your best Wah jokes below :)
What did Kirk Hammett say when he was a baby
I hear that Kirk Hammett's real name is Kirk Whammett.
Wha t for?
@@archerevan823 he said,' give me back that tittie, Wahhhhhh.🤣
One of the dislikes was definitely Adele!
This vid making Kirk ‘tingly’ in all right places.

Sunshine of Your Love is GLORIOUS with wah!! Absolutely loved that.
Sunshine of your love sounded the best with wah in my opinion 😁
Definitely ,I agree
I agree !
100% agree used right wah sounds amazing with blues rock just look at Hendrix
Now you need to do a "Better Without Wah" video. 🤷♂️😁
No such thing! 🎸🤘🏽
I can just imagine joe Walsh’s facial expressions with wah life in the fast lane 🤪
I was already thinking a "step" further with the talk box🙄
Robert: "I want to avoid copyright" (starts examples with 2 biggest blockers) 😂😂😂
Follow this up with a video..."Why all riffs need wah!" LOL. Good stuff like always man. Inspired. Watching now.

I only felt the Cream tune really. Everything else seems to drowned in the saturated tone.
I agree completely.😉
That’s why wah pedals are also called fixingyourfuckupspedals
Doesn't Clapton already use wah in the Sunshine riff?
@@timchristianson252 no there's no wah

One of those I thinks its a Dunlop mini wahs that has 3 voicings , like it cause it saves space ,sounds good too, have a great weekend all.

"I don't need no Wah Wah." - "Wah Wah" George Harrison
I have an RMC perfect ten wah! Love your Friedman too!

I've been rockin a Snarling Dogs Whine-O since buying it used in back in 2000. The eyes still light up and all 3 modes still work great!

I have a vox 847 wah and absolutely love it. I love any vox wah’s. I’m a huge hendrix fan so I tend to lean towards that kind of wah tone.
I have a JHS modded mini crybaby. Its got a gain knob, and a tone knob that goes from wah to woh.
Just love your general playing style Robert, rock on brother!
Love that wah sound. Definitely will have to buy it down the road
Bad Horsie Wah is what I have. I like it. Your classic riffs with a Wah...very Hendrix sounding to me.
Got a joyo multimode wah. :) I like Life in the Fast Lane. And I like that it adds to the build up
Wahs up??
I got a Morley Michael Ammott Wah that screams and no pots to fail.
It's an awesome tool to use sparingly to bring out more personality!
1. Slash has his own immigrant song «standing in the sun» same key and almost riff. With a q zone(wah that is standing still) 🤘🏻😎 love em both

Literally had same with my Morley wah, was thinking about it this week as well

Sunshine Of Your Love and Just Got Paid are awesome with wah!
I have Dunlop cry baby original wah it it so good
It’s the standard for a reason!
Same here, don't think you can beat eat personally....
I have Dimebag's original Dunlop Wah and it too kicks maximum ass

I remember a guy asking for wah when Rob was live
Here you go Rob gave you a whole video
You can also take em apart & jump 1 tooth up or down on the pot to change the tone
I have 3 wahs that I use. Dunlop Crybaby, Moer Mod Factory ( auto wah ) and an ART SGX rack unit ( auto wah and pedal ). Wah is like Franks Hot Sauce, " I put that . . . "
Hey robert!
I got the same wah padel as you, wich of the switches on the wah is your favorit? :)
Can you put the tubs of the start solo of every video on the screen please?
Sunshine for the win!! All the ideas were great and I would love to see some of these ripped up live.

Man Robert I’m really liking that Friedman wah this was a great show on wah stay safe you and your family.
im using a slash crybaby classic wah, it's cool right balance true bypass, looks sick , i love it
How do you avoid the copywrite? Do you change the tuning or pitch or something?
Still love the original riffage. I can say though they sound pretty sic with Wah. Cool video. Thank you for sharing. 🤠🎸🤘
I love that LP.
Wah is like gravy. It makes everything more TASTY.
But i don’t like gravy
@@theccarbiter ohh bummer. Then maybe salsa? Or a nice aolie? But i can see where wah is not for everyone.
@@Addicted2Guitar I like wah on clean to get funky tones but it never really jived with me for distorted tones the way phaser did.

Pretty sure the Pour Some Sugar On Me hriff as a phaser on it anyway at some point in the song. Dope wah pedal!
I have an old school cry baby and I love it...bought it at a pawn shop like 30 years ago!
Cool you mentioned Immigrant Song from Zeppelin. The Zeppelin songs I immediately thought of was either The Ocean or Kashmir.
I use the Vox V 847a wah. I love it!
I have a Vox 861, great pedal!

Omg I need to learn that song deliver us never heard it before but damn Robert!! That wah just completely transformed that riff added that punch
We need WAH WEDNESDAY'S!
I'm currently rocking the Snarling Dogs whine o wah and the Digitech Jimi Hendrix experience pedal
You should do a video on how wah and volume pedals really are expression pedals
Picked up a Dunlop Jimi Hendrix wah on CL for $30. Love that pedal!
Imigrant song: If you listen closely to the recorded version, there is a second guitar doing scratch rhythm and stab chords that does have a wah on it.
Life in the Fast Lane: A wah on that makes it sound even more like Willy The Pimp
Layla: would be cool if the wah were turned on for the chords but left off for the melodic fill.
The life in the fast lane riff with wah sounds immaculate
My mind: Okay, no jokes about Kirk Hammett, no jokes about Kirk...
Me: Video should called : “If this riffs were written by Kirk Hammett”
Oh boy... You gone did it! Don Henleys 60 employees are drooling for your money!
I’m currently using the George lynch dragon by Morley. It’s cool, and has lots of features, but I was curious about that Friedman wah
Just rocking the old faithful vox wah
I am using a Dimebag Wah. It is good its my first wah.
Kirk Hammett wah and Joe Bonamassa Wah is the best. See them both playing!!
SRV live Voodoo Child is just awesome!
Sunshine of your love was awesome but none of the other ones with the wah were for me
The Friedman wah makes everything sound a little alice in chains-ish...and i like it
Robert- try a Buddy Guy wah. It has a similarly thick voiced sound in "Deep" mode as the Friedman. I think you'll like it.
Man I wish u could have a guitar like that! All I got is a redwood Strat copy which has broken tone knobs
Really dug Life in the Fast Lane and Layla!
As for what wah.. T-wah in the Katana lol
Just a vox silvertop wah for me. Maybe ill get the wh10 v3 from ibanez when they land here
Great vid he did use a wah wah on sunshine of your love
You needed an Ultimate Warrior shirt for this one.
Y have a dunlop 535q wah, it is so versatile and incredible
Bro, Layla. Sounds amazing with wah. You should do a "wah"demtion videos.
Really liked sunshine of your love.
I don’t have one now but I’m looking to get a Wilson effects ten spot II
I love the wah . I have the EVH one
