Yes and nobody expanded Jimi’s language. SRV was incredible but didn’t add anything new, Trower was like a high quality knock off sonically. Tommy listened to all kinds of music and drew from all of it. You can draw a direct line from Tommy’s use of effects to The Edge…
For those who are curious: Tommy takes the first solo (3:51), John Gatto is the second (7:18), and Mickey Marchello takes the last (9:28-ish). Three distinctive, smoldering players
WOW! This version blows away any other I have heard. Tommy Bolin was always a great player, sadly, gone too soon, and the Good Rats were always a force! Saw them many times in upstate New York Still around , they were here in 2013. Great pics, well put together. Thanks for this rare piece of history..
Excellent video! It took a long time to gather all of those photos and blend them all together! Great job.. Glad ya got Barbara, Rich, Rick and Johnny in there too! Rick traded me one of Tommy's microphones (the first one he ever bought) for one of my wah wah pedals.. I still have it today!
Yeah Man Thanks For This! It is Awesome...I Saw Tommy Bolin with Deep Purple at the War Memorial In Rochester Maybe 75 or 76....I forgot the other band or bands that were there that day.... I also Dig Moxy 1
Tommy must have been clean and sober this night. He played like he was on top of his game. Man, what a loss. He died way too young. I guess we can only speculate as to what more he would have accomplished had he not died.
Ever wonder.where insane double.and.triple tracked studio lead guitars came from????!!?HERE THE FUCK IT IS, LIKE AN INSANELY OLD STEAM LOCOMOTIVE FLYING DOWN A SERIOUS ROCKY MOUNTAIN TRACK WITH NO FUCKING BRAKES
To this day, nobody has crossed genres like Tommy Bolin did. He had a monumental talent for phrasing and melody.
Jan Akkerman ..close runner-up 🙂
