Pivot Switchblade Live Reaction Review - Overpriced or under appreciated?

- It hasn't changed much since 2020, it's got a press fit bottom bracket, a rare 'Super Boost' rear hub width, no internal storage and it's very expensive. So why on earth would you buy a Pivot Switchblade? Hit the steep, rocky and sketchy trails of Stainburn Forest with me to find out!

Good Review!! I’m a desert rat and come from motocross roots. Gotta say the Pivot reminds me of some of my motocross bikes years ago but without the engine obviously. Really appreciate the stiffness and quality. No creaking BS and easy to maintain. I’ve had trek Santa Cruz GT and other mountain bikes. This is the most enjoyable whether going fast or slow.
Duuude great review! Glad to see you on a Pivot for a change 🤘🏼😎 Absolutely friggen LOVING my Firebird and I would dare and almost swear that it climbs and pedals out of corners better than any trail bike I’ve ever ridden.. let alone handle the gnarliest of terrain with confidence and determination to be fast and fun as F*ck
It’s a beautiful bike to ride, you’re a lucky fella 🤘🏻
The only riders I personally know who have an issue with press fit BB's are coincidentally the ones with the mechanical skill and care of an untrained chimp, who may or may not be installing said bottom brackets with a run up and a usefully shaped rock.
I don’t do, press fit bb, super boost, short chain stays, especially when I can get an ibis for 2/3 the price.
I take no issue with PF BB or short chainstays and Ibis does nothing for me so I wouldn't be cross shopping anyway, but superboost is a hard no for me.
I can’t disagree
Superboost is the problem for me. Wouldn't go near a bike with that. I wonder if Dave Weagle pushed Pivot into it, as I notice Devinci and Evil also use his suspension designs and axle standards no one wants.
@@elliotg7482 ibis still 148 dw-link
@@elliotg7482 love Devinci but they’re not as popular with the high end crowd like Pivot. I’ve owned a couple but having Superboost on their bikes have hurt their sales I’m sure.
Proof that you can't judge a bike from the geometry chart
I bought one after much consideration… my thought process was as follows…
1. Super boost rear also pushes the cassette out a bit, yielding a better chain line.
2. PF BB can be negated by using a wheels Mfg thread fit Bb
3. The steep head angle can be tweaked by using a works components angle set.
Yep, all spot on. Like I say PF is nowhere near the curse it used to be
@GuyKesTV Yeah the biggest issue with press fit isn't the way it's fitted or the actual bb you fit , it's usually a combo of bad carbon moulding around the shell and piss poor qc from the factory
Hey there. I recently watched one of your MTB videos from a few years ago. You were riding the On One Hello Dave. I’m very interested in building up a frame.
How well did it hold up? How does it do on techie climbs? I love challenging climbs and bombing down chunk. Any info you can share is much appreciated. Thanks.
Nice 👍🏻 a test rode the E-bike shuttle am similar geo to this bike.. where are you riding?? Looks ace 👍🏻
The price tag is about on par with some of the other more well known big brands, it’s just that Pivot doesn’t offer a bargain version. I mean…$14k for the new Epic…that’s big money
@@brucehumphries6889 $9k for an XT/XTR bike with carbon wheels? Last two bikes I’ve gotten were frames (Stumpjumper and Stumpjumper EVO) with better specs for $6-7k. I think they’re too expensive for sure. Do they even sell frames anymore? Last one I owned was a 429 and there was nothing really great about it other than the rear suspension. I don’t know, just too pricey on top of the negatives listed above. $9k and they can’t even give you frame storage either.
There’s a lot more tech and spec in that new Epic, plus it’s actually new.
@@GuyKesTV I agree with that on the tech and spec. I also agree, the prices are out of hand really.
Hi Guy, how close is this Pivot to the Yeti SB140 which you recently rode the Enduro course on?
@@GreenTimYoung it’s pretty much identical in terms of spec, geometry, travel, weight and price to the SB140 Lunch Ride I tested. The Yeti pedalling is a bit more positive though but there’s more question marks on the Switch Infinity suspension longevity. Yeti gets threaded BB and std back end plus a lifetime warranty tho
Might be a decent bike, but just looks as exciting as a Ford Fiesta.
Compared to what?
@@titiand ?
Spectral CF LTD for less mullah and higher spec.....
Unexciting overpriced bike. Plenty nicer and better bikes out there with better specs.
Thanks for your detailed analysis. Obviously you never owned one.
Nope
