Just arrived today from Berlin. I know this music for a long time and i always thought how it would be if i listen to it this amazing city. So yesterday ( saturday night ) i took the u-bahn in east berlin to the east side gallery. I can´t describe how i felt, but it was such a warm and exploding feeling. One of the most amazing moments of my life. Love from Portugal
I know exactly how you felt, sometimes when you go to a certain place, espcially when the music was created or inspired in, you can really feel it at another level. ok first reply 10 years later, you didn't see that coming , did you? haha. Cheers!
This song means something to me... This song played right after I got my first kiss. I was eighteen years old when I first kissed a boy. Everything is so vivid about that memory when I sit here and listen to this song. It's like I can remember everything! I stayed there with him until six in the morning. The light broke through the window and he walked me out to the car. I got into my jeep and as I drove off, this song started to play. That ride home was so surreal. Love Bloc Party forever!
Bro most songs from the 2000s were iconic, including this Bloc Party album and song. Just a replied to make you feel old once you get the notification for your 10 years old comment ':D
I actually met a girl when I was in Berlin last year. Hit it off, we were seriously falling for eachother - but we both lived in other parts of Europe. Me in Ireland, her in Barcelona. And where both in different stages of our life. I had a year to go before I finished uni, she was hoping to move to Munich. It took us 6 months before we realised we were not right for eachother. ....or more accurately, we were perfect for eachother as people, but our lives were not at the same stage. If we met a year later (today) then we would probably have did everything we wanted to. Life got in the way, and we had to move on from eachother. The one that got away.
I feel your same pain too. I met a girl from Australia but I live in America. I would do anything. However just like you said, different stages in life. The distance especially and barrier really kills...
I feel like many of us associate this song with someone "who got away." Myself included. I met a great guy named Tyson. We had a ton in common. He introduced me to Bloc Party. He even sang me this song. We had so much in common, we cared for each other deeply. But we just couldn't be... We both accepted that... But I am grateful to have met Bloc Party through him, and without that integral person, I would never have had that one puzzle piece that unlocked the whole puzzle that made my life completely as it is.
@@dingenshier I was there too! and they played this very song. the concert was fantastic and the energy among the crowd was great too! I'm so happy that I went there and didn't listen to the haters who undermine the band because of the lineup change
For years and years I've returned to this video whenever I remember the song. As far as I'm concerned, this is the official video for it. Absolutely beautiful.
So...many.. bloc party fans.. where have you guys been my whole life? I'm 22 now, and I've been listening to them religiously since I first heard banquet in 2006 when I was 7.
I'm so glad I was a fan of the original lineup. I was even lucky enough to have opened their debut album Silent Alarm on Christmas morning back in 2005. It was the first gift I decided to fiddle with as I played my new video games on my ps2 one of those games was Tony Hawk's American Wasteland the one with "Like Eating Glass". Yeah, that was the reason I started listening to them, but the entire album itself was even better. Each year after that Christmas, I've always asked for the next new album of Bloc Party.
Tony Hawk Pro Skater launched my life into indie hip hop and eventually indie rock music. I first heard "Non Compos Mentis" by Haiku Detat on the soundtrack and i figured there had to be dope as rock I never heard of as well. Before then I was enslaved go whatever the radio or mtv had to offer.
it is amazing sometimes that while doing random things with your computer and letting youtube roll and play on its own, you will hear an amazing song like this one! ahhhh. good times.
First time I heard this song back in 2008 I feel like I was missing someting/someone. But not really sure what/who. Now after 2 years leaving Germany, I know exactly what I am missing of.
This song literally breaks my heart. Kills me in the best way. One of my favourite albums ever. Similar to Jimmy Eat Worlds Futures album in the respect of the hard hitters and beautiful slow burners. Tugs at the same heart strings. Check out Bloc Partys Another Night In the City b-sides and outtakes album. Songs from these sessions compiled and all killers too
here's a personal perspective for this specific song, I took it out from a lyrics site, I really liked it so here I share it to you all... "This song is amazing. It perfectly captures the image of a young man walking alone in the city at night, looking for a soulmate. He may get lucky with a few women, but he knows inside that they both have no real attraction, or love toward each other. His search for true love continues in the metropolis.." Copy Rights to | Derrick on 8/26/10 |
The lead singer is gay. He's looking for love with other males and for him, the sex means something that for his partner means something else. Nothing to do with women here--if anything, the woman can identify with the lyricist trying to find love with males who are only in it for the sex and nothing else - "After sex, the bitter taste, been fooled again, the search continues..."
@@agtv_media To further add from your point, the "teach your sons how to truly love!" lyric in the song's outro is a clear indication of the song's queer subtext.
I had listened like 12 years ago, then I forgot the name but I memorize the melody. Then in the 4 season of The O.C I finally could know the name of the song, I never though it was sang by bloc party.
Since then I play it to my baby when I was pregnant and I had to take to buses for going to my university. I guess she is gonna love good music just like her mom
Idk y but when the o.c. used it on that sadly unknown-to-be LAST episode when the earthquake shattered their worlds, the scenes they used while playing this song was extremely fitting, and humbling. It always replays in my head. That show was my all-time favorite, still to this day, and even though the show ended unexpected, that last episode was good enough to be the finale. So Good!
i know exactly what you mean! mine is with two more years......good times......i will always love bloc party for those wonderful memories!!! seeing them on the 7th of december, first time! gonna be magical :)
Disappointed at the little amount of comments on the video itself. Beautifully done, I envisioned that if a video for this song was made it would be something like this. Job well done. (:

so weird to see that i dont even remember that i was here 1 year ago, now i just revisiting out of sheer instinct and for the vibes, forgot that i was commenting to it or listening to it, weird.
only inconsistency is that the stop where the guy leaves the train is actually the last stop on that line, so she would have no reason to stay in that train anyway (nor all the other folks who do it in the video). that does not change the point of the vid, but it somehow strikes to someone who actually knows berlin.
Kreuzberg is the city where witnessed street fights, pains, xenophobia, racism, violence but also riot, solidarity and uprise in the near history. So it is surprising to hear this kinda soft&nice song about this city. Long live 36 BOYS ! still in kreuzberg, still as strong as the first day
It's so beautiful reading all the comments on this video, both new and old, in 2024. An underrated album from an underrated band 😌💚

Steht in der Beschreibung "The scenes in the U-Bahn are from the short movie "U-Bahn", directed by Hendrik Hölzemann"
I did exactly the same thing while I was there last month. Really makes this song mean so much more. East Side Gallery, wow.
[Verse 1]
There is a wall that runs right through me
Just like this city, I will never be joined
What is this love? Why can I never hold it?
Did it really run out in those strangers' bedrooms?
[Chorus]
I
I have decided
At 25
That something must change
[Verse 2]
Saturday night, in East Berlin
We took the U-Bahn to the East Side Gallery
I was sure I'd found love with this one lying with me
Crying again in the Hauptbahnhof
[Chorus]
I
I have decided
At 25
That something must change
[Outro]
After sex, the bitter taste
Been fooled again, the search continues
After sex, the bitter taste
Been fooled again, the search continues
After sex, the bitter taste
Been fooled again, the search continues
