Just wanted to give you a giant Thanks Eric!!!! My car has been having issues loosing coolant and overheating at idle. Shop told me the waterpump and possibly more but they wouldnt do anything till the waterpump was replaced. 500 just for that. brought it home and tested myself. noticed a bad fan and a cracked radiator. Using knowledge gained from your channel I was able to get it all torn apart and just waiting on the radiator to arrive here in about 45 minutes. Keep up the great work!!!
Just have the dealer show you the radiator leak. Should be pretty obvious with a hand pump. The ripoff happens with the dealer parts markup, not on dishonest work ;-)
Was a small hometown mechanic he refused to touch it unless the water pump was done. I'm almost finished with it thankfully and will be glad when it runs without overheating.

Old Relic look like a Oldsmobile 98. Was showing my cousin this morning how much rust you get next to us in nw.indiana. Was telling him when working for indiana department of transportation from 1984 to 1990 on salt trucks rust stories. We put calcium chloride on top of the salt. Taking a look at that daily driver rust makes me not miss my home state and happy to be a transplant to the south. Makes me want to go out to the garage now to wax my ball joints and tie rods.🤪☮️

Eric, that "relic" is a 1963 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight Holiday (Olds' term for hardtop) Sedan. My uncle Ernest--a lifelong Olds man--had a baby blue coupe with bucket seats.
Eric I follow your leed on this because I have 2011 Kia Rio same issue while replacing the wheel bearings w/o abs and speedometer worked but engine light on. No way to remove the hub without removing the speed sensor, I cut the wire at the hub but did not remove the sensor wire so I know placement for install. While removing the sensor it broke due to the rusties than drilled some holes and used a large wood screws to remove the copper windings. Still stuck than chipped away the bottom plastic away with small chichel than pryed bits till removed. Used a small grind stone on drill to remove rust and dry fitted a few times. Eric great job thank for posting.
On non-abs models the single wheel speed sensor is compared with the gearbox speed sensor for rough road detection which similar to low fuel level pids suppress any misfire codes that are flagged up. Rover used the same system in the 1990's

Yep,I had to get my" inner Eric O "on the other day, I had to replace the original shocks the other day on an 07 jeep wrangler that was from Connecticut the worst part was that the rusted out bolts were next the the fuel tank and I wasn't about to put a torch on it I broke the bolts off and drilled as far as I could with a rotabroach drill bit and cut the rest off with a wore down cutting disc on the top side of the frame, 3 hours later I was done, wow I have so much respect for Mr O dealing with the rust day in and day out!
I had to replace both front hubs on my 2003 Chevy Trailblazer for speed sensor problems and also bearing problems. Both of the sensors were bad and the left hub the bearings were creating a real loud roar. The right hub, the bearings were creating noise, but not very loud. Was a surprisingly easy job, took me about 1 1/2 hours to do it sitting in my gravel driveway with just a floor jack and jack stands using hand tools. Don't have an air compressor here.

As you were drilling the sensor out I screamed at the screen "The drill bit gonna snap" and then it did, lol. Also that tierod looked properly shagged.
Real life removal of a speed sensor. In my experience Its rare to have one come out easily. I was impressed how quickly you got it out. The last one I did on my car (BMW) went into a blind hole so I was scared to drill it to far. Ended up removing the hub and punching it out from the back...bearing seems ok for now..
Great way to spend a Sunday. My Saturn Vue 2 wheel peeler has on one speed sensor right front. They called it a rough road sensor. I don't need a sensor to tell me the road is rough. Especially here in Pittsburgh. We don't have smooth roads. LOL
Bobby Brady you proved my point. Beyond 10 years these cars are worthless hence the reason you sold yours. The metal is inferior. They make a decently engineered car but they are so susceptible to rust (worse than other brands) they are dangerous after 10 years in the north. Good luck keeping your 2nd 15 years
Bobby Brady good for you. The average person doesn’t. I have 90s Buick’s and a 30 year old ford that I abuse with less rust than that thing. Good luck with your car and all the preventative steps you take that Hyundai forgot to do at the factory. I’m not going to change your opinion. I'm not surprised there is a 2017 Chevy in your lot that needs a transmission. We had our 2016 Chevy Z71 transmission replaced about a year ago. I replaced the A/C condenser earlier this summer and the (Rule Goldberg) power brake vacuum pump last fall. All three issues are known problems, but GM refuses to do anything about them. I've been driving Chevy pickups since my first one in 1966, but I'm afraid that the 2016 is my last GM product.

DC continuity to the speed sensor is OL. But across the break in the wire, an AC voltage can be conducted. It’s known as “capacitive coupling. Same thing if the metal or magnetic in the center of the sensor is broken; the magnetism can bridge a break.

Ah, the Accent. I've got an '07 MC (2-Door) with just 49k miles on the clock. Solid little grocery getter. Lifetime free oil changes from the dealership. Every four months like clockwork. Free danish & bottle of water. Least miles between changes was 385 miles. Probably every time the oil going out looks like the oil going in.
I don't know how many drill bits I have broken!!! LOL I also don't know how many times I have used a screwdriver as a chisel!! LOL Up here in Canada we usually break the bolts on those puppies!! Take care and stay safe!!!
I think stability control was mandated in 2007??? They might be using the sensor as part of that system.. The speedo may be run off a speed sensor in the transmission.
That relic appeared to be a 1964 Oldsmobile 88 four door sedan. It would most likely have come with a 394 cu in v8 and may have had a 3 speed roto matic transmission, in fact it most likely did and they were junk, I think all the 98s had the four speed hydramatic although they had the same base engine.. Yes that was back in the day when you could just look at a car and know what year, make and model it was. Now I can't tell which manufacturer the car is most of the time and as far as the year that is almost impossible for me. Of course back then if you got 100,000 miles on a car you would have changed the plugs and points about 5 or 6 times, had to have had it aligned 2 or 3 times, changed the belts about 3 or 4 times and the tires would last maybe 20,000 miles. The car would be totally worn out. Yeah they don't make them like they used to.
It’s just amazing to me that the HYUNDAI only has close to 62,000 miles on it from what the odometer said and you’re expecting it to be in the junkyard in a year or two. It’s also amazing how the rust factor is different from state to state and how bad it is in upstate New York.

I have a Kia Spectra with no ABS. Same setup you have there. I found out that if that sensor is bad you will never be able to set those three things to "Ready" because the wheel speed sensor feeds the PCM the speed signal. So you won't pass the state emissions inspection tests. If you had done a bit more 55mph driving they probably would have set (at least the Catalyst and O2 sensor)

I have tried some of that Avoca dirt. It has a good salty iron flavor with a gritty texture, goes great on mashed potatoes or fries.
🤣 Just don't try the Massachusetts dirt. You'll start to see things ... and hear voices ... 🥴

DC continuity to the speed sensor is OL. But across the break in the wire, an AC voltage can be conducted. It’s known as “capacitive coupling.
Same thing if the metal or magnetic in the center of the sensor is broken; the magnetism can bridge a break.

I was at 97,366 miles on my '07 Silverado when I replaced the rear differential carrier. Spider gears were missing the tips of all their teeth! 🤢

Ah, the Accent. I've got an '07 MC (2-Door) with just 49k miles on the clock. Solid little grocery getter. Lifetime free oil changes from the dealership. Every four months like clockwork. Free danish & bottle of water. Least miles between changes was 385 miles. Probably every time the oil going out looks like the oil going in.

They might be using the sensor as part of that system..
The speedo may be run off a speed sensor in the transmission.
The rule came in in 2007 but wasn't effective until 2011, so cars before 2011 may not have it.

That relic appeared to be a 1964 Oldsmobile 88 four door sedan. It would most likely have come with a 394 cu in v8 and may have had a 3 speed roto matic transmission, in fact it most likely did and they were junk, I think all the 98s had the four speed hydramatic although they had the same base engine.. Yes that was back in the day when you could just look at a car and know what year, make and model it was. Now I can't tell which manufacturer the car is most of the time and as far as the year that is almost impossible for me. Of course back then if you got 100,000 miles on a car you would have changed the plugs and points about 5 or 6 times, had to have had it aligned 2 or 3 times, changed the belts about 3 or 4 times and the tires would last maybe 20,000 miles. The car would be totally worn out. Yeah they don't make them like they used to.
It’s just amazing to me that the HYUNDAI only has close to 62,000 miles on it from what the odometer said and you’re expecting it to be in the junkyard in a year or two. It’s also amazing how the rust factor is different from state to state and how bad it is in upstate New York.

I have a Kia Spectra with no ABS. Same setup you have there. I found out that if that sensor is bad you will never be able to set those three things to "Ready" because the wheel speed sensor feeds the PCM the speed signal. So you won't pass the state emissions inspection tests. If you had done a bit more 55mph driving they probably would have set (at least the Catalyst and O2 sensor)
