That very last turn against the trapper was such a rollercoaster of emotions. You figured out that you could win the round by pulling a tooth (amazing play by the way) but then Mapo's own caution caused him to lose . Not because the pronghorn moved but instead because he attacked it with his cautionary bullfrog activating the tail split special and causing the pronghorn to step in front of the great white before he attacked. Mapo I'm in literal tears you were so close! You'll get em' next time! I believe in you!
That Trapper fight though, "misclicking" into the best possible play, feeling defeated, figuring out the lethal angle, then getting too cautious and blocking it with the Wriggling Tail triggering from the Bullfrog... More twists than a Shyamalan movie. Loving this series
That was a roller-coaster at the end. Oh no! Uses all but one pelt. Oh Yes, At least he has the great white. Oh no! misclicked a card. Oh Yes, it was the best possible card to choose. Oh no! still need a point of damage to win. Oh Yes, still has the pliers for the one point. EZ win Oh no! being too cautious made you attack the pronghorn with the skink ability which blocks the great white. Dies. LMAO
I understand his frustration about the game not asking "are you sure?" more often, but learning from your mistakes is a cornerstone of the roguelike genre, which this game undoubtedly is, so imo it's appropriate.
Exactly. And Mapo is a full-grown adult. Games shouldn't baby everyone just because some people make the same exact careless mistake over and over again. Like learn to have the utmost basic level of self-control.
1:10:25 When you put down that bullfrog and I realized what would happen I for real yelped "NO!" in despair, and startled the person next to me on the couch. This game really allows you to snag defeat from the jaws of victory lol Don't worry, we all made that kind of mistake playing this.
I’m starting to think maybe Mapo hasn’t noticed the point counter on the scale. Just watching the hand where the moose buck got the win and seemed that Mapo wasn’t sure what the outcome would be.
Mapo not having a bigger reaction to the Trapper/Trader mask switch was a bit disappointing. I was so shocked and impressed when I saw it for the first time!
You can never truly experience a game the way you did the first time, but the next best thing is joining someone else on their first playthrough. I’m thoroughly enjoying watching you discover this great game!
Ohh boy, you defeated yourself against the Trapper. What a rollercoaster match. Very exciting and stressful at the same time! You had him until you wavered at the very last move
"Remind yourself that overconfidence is a slow, and insidious, killer..." That last turn against the trapper is typically what makes this game so punishing. You had the correct move figured out, but messed it up by trying to secure the win. Don't worry though, there will be more occasions for silly combos with all the different behaviors some cards (and totems) have. You will feel overwhelmed and make mistakes till the end, just like anyone. As you might have noticed as well, your opponent doesn't quite play by the rules... Don't play fair, break the guy! Go silly! You've made insane progress so far, in roughly 3 hours I wasn't able to go nearly as far as you did...
If you want to make sure you're not clicking on anything accidentally: The mouse cursor changes into a hand when you click on something that isn't just to advance the dialogue. But yeah, picking the adder there with the trapper was actually the best possible play.
Says that things aren't explained to his face, misses that the DM explains to his face that the fire will improve a card's health... twice. You're doing fine, just wish you'd pay more attention at times like that lol
I know a lot of the comments can be quite frustrating in these playthroughs, but having watched a lot of people play Inscryption...you're doing great. Everyone is going to miss things or make mistakes when they're still getting the hang of the game. Also, even when you seem frustrated, it's obvious that you're enjoying yourself and not letting it get to you too much...which is really refreshing. And finally Spoilers (for viewers, not Mapo...as I'm a Patron): You honestly get through this first part quicker than a lot of the people I've watched.
Nice progress ! There's a lesson to learn at the end tho : you had a good plan of using the pincers to get 1 free damage, + 4 from the great white, that would have been a win. But by wanted to overdo it on a complex board, you triggered the tail card and made yourself lose. Lesson is, try and calculate what will happen by looking at all the sigils, and stick to the plan :)
I know how it works, just sometimes too many rules in a new game I get confused, and I slip up. Part of my brain is applying the flying rules from MTG at times.
@@Mapocolops ;) hehe yeah it gets a bit overwhelming specially if you played other games. It also doesnt help when cards can have extra abilities that you can easily miss (such as that deer at the end having the skink tail ability that killed you)
2:25 I actually winced when you passed on a 3-blood card. Since I'm watching the playlist after the fact, I did not forget the triple-blooded squirrels. EDIT: I personally would have chosen the card you "misclicked" at the end there. I may also have missed that that one card had the "tail", though. Pity you were overly cautious, but I'm sure you'll learn as you go along. I know I'd watched full LPs before finally purchasing this game (because of the official Mod and not because of the story).

hey Mapo, you're doing better and better, impressive stuff! That being said, I have some strategic advice, coming from hundreds hours of playing deckbuilders and thousands in ccgs. I put them below in case you'd consider these spoilers, but I'm not talking about any specific combos, just general ideas on how to approach such games - contrary to their name, in deckbuilders you are typically looking to REMOVE as many cards from your deck as possible. Any opportunity to thin out your deck is good, except from the very beginning. Conversly, if your deck is already looking pretty solid, you should be avoiding adding more cards to it that could ruin your combos - in card games that have board (like ccgs), making your cards NOT interact with a board is, generally, a bad idea. In some very specific cases such builds can work, but you will usually have much stronger options - to round up the genre blend of Inscryption, in rogulikes in general you typically want to look to create something very broken. Dont judge cards and upgrades based on their general quality, but rather a potential for absurdly broken combos. You were actually kinda close in your early run with immortal squirrels, just a bit short on the execution :)
In my opinion not paying attention and choosing wrong IS a part of this game I dont think reloading should be acceptable for something like 'oh guys I didnt really look at what I was doing so I can reload' the campers said Health and there was a heart symbol I dont think it was confusion more like just auto piloting which should be punished IMO.
Thanks to Mapo's experience with this game im now tempted to install it again and try to beat it after i droped it. And just in case... The reason why i dropped it it's not because i thought it was bad but becuase i just didn't want to strategize so hard in every single match just to not die.

The last trapper fight I watched was from these other UA-camrs who hadn't figured out that the pelts could be used defensively, and they had a bunch of low level cards thst kept getting killed. So they ended going into the second phase with five pelts. It's a fantastically executed twist, and it turns the game on its head (pun intended), always to fantastic results.
