One of the saddest things is that there is so much unused land in Hong Kong, that could be used for housing for the poor. It’s so sad to see the HK government neglect these people. May God help them. The whole situation in Hong Kong in general is so sad and unfortunate.

    • @leongkailer1994

It's not technically the government's fault. There were multiple plans since the handover to build more homes. Tung Chee Hwa wanted to do it initially but was unlucky that Economic crisis happened the day after the handover. Then, Leung Chun Ying and Carrie Lam both have plans to so as well, but they were either faced with objections from the pan-democratic parties and private developers. But, as you have said, currently less than 30% of the land is used, which is bizarre. By opening up 3% of the land, you can already build tall buildings that can house thousands. And that's not what the property developers want.

Why not send them the Poor and all over to a place like Australia, which is 1000 times larger than Hong Kong where people live like sardines in a can. Speaking of Australia, may I ask why is this vast resourceful Continent in Asia-Pacific, only a few hundred miles away from South-East Asia had no Asian-Pacific Islanders in that vast land originally, historically inhabiting when Anglo pirates, some 10,000 miles away England, sailed half the world away, and looted in late 18th century? This doesn't make sense, since Asian-Pacific Islanders originally and historically inhabiting and residing in Pacific such as Guam, Tonga, New Zealand, Tahiti, Fiji and Hawaii? Speaking of New Zealand, why did these same Anglo pirates, sailed halfway around the world and looted in the late 18th century? Why didn't they occupy beautiful fertile Iceland, right above them just a short distance away, with hardly any people there, even today?

@@aliefr2984 What do you mean capitalism brought in the modern era? How do you know it was capitalism, and not Science, or the discovery of big oil, like I claim?
History shows that capitalism didnt do anything for us for maybe a hundred years or more, after which we discovered oil, and then Science made good use of that oil, and then capitalism was modified to siphon this wealth of the industrial era to the rich elites. Lets be clear here, the rich elites have done, and will do everything in their power to rig markets, purchase government officials, etc in order to secure their wealth (forever if possible). Panama Papers anyone?
Not to mention, if we were back in the late 1700s in Feudalism (before capitalism) can you imagine someone saying, "Feudalism brought in the modern era". This kind of thinking infers that there wont be anything after capitalism, which is just false, well unless the human race were to end because of it (capitalism exacerbates climate change too).
Furthermore, capitalism has become what some economists are starting to call NeoFeudalism. By the Science, inequality levels are greater than what they were during feudalistic times.

Hong Kong became famous for its low-tax government model, attracting businesses from all over the world. Now that it's feasible to directly set up shop in mainland China, HK is losing relevance and is arguably even more reluctant to raise business taxes.
It needs to transition from a city serving business to a city serving its residents. Otherwise, the unrest will come back again and again as the average resident suffers from poor quality of life for such an affluent city. Especially in downtown, Hong Kong has to be one of the worst values for money in terms of quality of life. Tiny boxes in towering buildings that block each others' sunlight, and that's if you can even afford a place of your own.

Shame that the (weak) Chief Executive was prevented from building houses for the poor. A few billionaires had bought a lot of land from the colonial government before the transfer of the British to the Chinese, so that they could gradually develop and continue to earn. It would also help in rebuilding trust between China and the mainland. China govt leach off Hong Kong’s wealth. Property and land are bought by wealthy Hong Kong and mainland businesses, which have links to the party

@@Blindswordsman1994It's hypocritical how you blame the CCP for HK's problems without acknowledging the indifferent attitude of the HK government and HK's real estate developers/monopolies/billionaires. The CCP may actually be more effective at dealing with the housing problem than the HK government. At least they don't have any qualms about using gangster tactics. Imagine the CCP giving HK's billionaires a Jack Ma style beating.
