Kia ora. I just started listening to your podcast on Amazon music and it helps me stay focused on my homework while giving me my fix of New Zealand history
0:05 pulls out a roll of definitely not number 8 wire , (which is 4mm dia soft drawn) in fact fell out of use years ago, replaced with 12 gauge high tensile
I'm I the only one who thinks William looks a bit like the famous Pākehā-Māori, John Rutherford? I kept thinking that William looked sort of familiar to me and just as I was opening a cabinet a copy of the book Pakeha Maori fell out onto my writing desk and looking up at me was a painting of John Rutherford. All of the sudden I realized why William looked so familiar, because he looks like John.
Karaka berry flesh is actually edible, it's not half bad. The uncooked kernel, however, is toxic. If you're not already decently acquainted with wild/forage foods, it's probably best to avoid them though
Merino mutton is superior. The stock feed on diverse herbs and grasses at a higher and drier altitude- much less bland than the lowland grass fed mutton.
Say Guys (& Gal;s) I sure Wish your producer had taken a LOT more effort to check out a few more FACTS In the case of wire it was NOT STEEL . First wire was IRON & NOT galvanised (zinc coated) Iron rusts quite slowly so some of it still exists it was thicker than 8 gauge some was 1/4 inch thick! Any way STEEL became available in Quantity with the invention of the "BESSEMER" process so then wire got THINNER as steel is stronger than iron, also RUSTS fast so zinc coat it! ...No 8 gauge wire! Remember any iron before 1868 was IRON not steel so real old machinery was iron & easer to form than steel,, CAST iron is weak as it is poured like chock let into moulds. Steel was usually only available in small bits ...swords or"wrought" to get it stronger (gun barrels!)
