I am so taken by this series , I look forward to new episodes every week ❤️ I am a proud māori, beautiful to hear about the history of our home, pre colonial period as well as after, I roto I Te ao maori as well as Te ao pākeha from both perspectives . ❤️ Ngā mihi nui ki a korua Marnie, William, for your awesome mahi delivering this awesome series ❤️
I love the show! I appreciate the research that goes behind each episode and the way you present it so succinctly and with such high production value. Also really enjoying noticing the slight differences between Māni’s Te Reo dialect and Leigh-Marama’s from the previous season!
It called my attention that, when reading some requirements to migrate to New Zealand, it is usually required X-ray evidence that you don't have tuberculosis. I wondered "why this obsession about tuberculosis in particular?", and now I have the answer, it had a terrible impact on Māori people. I'm from Latin America and some people in my family went through tuberculosis and recovered well, so I failed to understand why it was so worrying for newzealanders. Now it makes sense to me. Also... "Spanish flu"... But it actually came from the USA ._. Anyway haha thanks for this series, I love it and I learn a lot!
Early European visitors frequently remarked on how incredibly healthy the Màori people were, saying that they almost never saw anyone sick. People with various injuries were seen, but not with obvious signs of illness
Thailand never be colonized yet successful modernized. same with Hawaii, but US annexed it in 1893. If Maori never colonized, Maori will be the same as any others independent country like Japan, Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia and others Asia country with no settler colonizer people.
I'm sorry, but the idea that were no diseases before Europeans turned up is nonsense. In fact, Maori may have suffered from arthritis and some skin diseases
It’s not an idea it’s fact European diseases killed majority of the populations they came in contact with ! This is seen throughout the world’s history
Easy to make it on UA-cam when you make a channel about New Zealand History and get funded by the tax payer aye. Some of us, me included put in a huge amount of effort into our channels, including thousands of our own money as well. I do appreciate what your channel is about however.
So happy to see the return of this great UA-cam series.
Thanks Max!

Yeah in the video they say that the Spanish flu most likely started in a pig farm in America.
Love this series. More please...
More coming every week!
This channel is great! Thanks so much.

Surely there was a catch? 12:05 makes it hard to believe stuff when looked at from a biased POV video after video.

Maori were never colonized, we never ceded soverignty.
Indonesia was colonized by the Dutch, Korea was technically colonized by Japan and Cambodia is one the poorest countries in the world
Why are these comments so pissed?
I think it's a mix between racists not liking nz history and antivax people not liking all the talk about epidemics.
