Outstanding. I've been nervous about removing the extra layer, but after my no-start-of-shame the other day, I'm ready to go for it. Thanks the for the hint about not using heat, I didn't even think about it warping the sensor layer. Got some 4mm Hex and Tiffany Blue wrap coming, I'll be ripping into it when it gets here.
Thx you Sean ! That 4mm Hex with the tiff blue is what I’m rocking right now on my Lightning’s . Love it ! Yeah go for it man! Be careful and take it slow 💪💪💪 thx for the comment buddy !
Hi, Jeff does removing the plastic film on front pad sensors applied to the lowboy foot pads . Will it be possible to reuse the same grip tape if not damaged thanks Jose
Jeff this video saved my entire love for the board, my board has been ghost shutting mid ride trying to dismount while I’m riding and I hear the axel rub, this has only been since the cold weather and yes I have the new recalled pad. I’m happy you made this!
I had the same problem but instead of getting into anything I just put two sticky furniture pad pieces on my front footpad where my foot goes and it fixed it like a charm! It’s a lot cheaper and easier and safer for anyone who doesn’t want to get into their board.
Great video Jeff. The sensor on my front pad is iffy and I’d been contemplating this but didn’t want to rip the sensor. Really really clearly shown and am sure I can do this. Thanks brother!
neat how its a probly future motion dosnt want you doing it. glad we might have their support on this. very annoying problem for pintx out the box, didnt know why i thought a smaller board would ever be better for a smaller rider, nope, i replaced the pintx quickly for my 5 y o with GT, then they screwed up the sensors and problem all over again. this is worth a try after i test the flat footpads on his size 1 feet
😭😭😭 love it ! 💪💪💪 I’ve stuck it in the sun and used heat very fast but we have seen it warp the sensor when used carelessly / little bit shouldn’t hurt but I did it just so you can see it be done without it . Thx for watching dude ! We appreciate it 🤘🤘🤘

omg I actually needed this because I have trouble activating my sensor. also, (kinda dumb question), is it harder to engage the footpad when it's cold outside, because I think that's what's happening with mine.
Looking forward to the Surestart video! And do you think that you could reuse the current 4mm ignite grip tape I have after removing that top layer of plastic? 🤔 13:57
@@jeffadairshreds seems like an easy enough install on the Surestart, just seems like it would for sure void your warranty, footpad isn't so much bothering me now that I have the ignite on there. But just at lower speeds it'll disengage
Thanks for watching dude! I didn't use the octagons because after this video I was just gonna put the original front footpad back on the board that has matching grip (octagons with grey under wrap) and under color wrap. I chose this grip in the video bc I can just smack it on real easy. Just to note tho this is a go to set up hex in back and 2mm or 4mm foam in the front is the first setups we had with the Hexagons 🤙🤙🤙 its a CLASSIC. Please consider subscribing and lets get it
We just got a new board and I’m 240 size 12 and the new sensor disengages non stop. This is crazy. I have another board from May 22 with a recalled footpad that is perfect. Something is way different.
Yessir that SureStart is the solution! Loving my Ignite 4MM grip as well. Dude the new Platysense V3.1 for GT does not favor lightweight riders. Engagement issues all day 😞 I made a video comparing the two. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on the SureStart! 🤘
I’ve never experienced engagement issues with my GT foot pads but I will be converting to vesc and will be throwing on some fresh grip tape in the process. Should I remove a layer of plastic just in case?
I think I def did this before the recall and remember it also being able to take off a layer of plastic. It could be different thickness maybe ? However I’m not 100% on the old pads so proceed with caution ⚠️ thx for watching dude ! 💪💪💪
@@jeffadairshreds cool, thanks for the info. Do u think 190(weight) would be ok to do this with? Im only have trouble starting my board in the cold.. and of course! Keep shredding! And be safe!!

How is this any different then the original front Footpad that was recalled? Is it just making the new one like the recalled one? Just curious. I still have my original. Thx Jeff!
My dude !!!! Thx you for the comment 💪💪💪 tbh I’m not sure if this just makes it the original footpad by just taking this layer off. It's not just the extra layer of plastic, there are some other minor differences in the sensors from pre-recall to post-recall. While the differences are minor, the results are significant. it's kind of wild seeing how even subtle changes can be significant.
@@jeffadairshreds lol. Can you make a video on repurposing the foam grip tape? like a how to remove and reapply without messing it up. is it as straight forward as just peeling it up and reapplying? any technique necessary?

If I’m installing the 4mm ignite hex grip tape on front footpad is it recommended I remove the plastic protective sensor layer? I weigh 195.
I tend to do this to all my boards 💪💪💪
Why no heat? Just enough to soften the glue a tad?
omg I actually needed this because I have trouble activating my sensor. also, (kinda dumb question), is it harder to engage the footpad when it's cold outside, because I think that's what's happening with mine.
No, there are two layers that need to touch to activate the sensor footpad. Any temp change will affect both layers equally.
Yes. The cold causes the grip tape to contract which impacts its softness. As a result, the footpad can be less sensitive.
Looking forward to the Surestart video! And do you think that you could reuse the current 4mm ignite grip tape I have after removing that top layer of plastic? 🤔 13:57
