    The Desert Kingdoms Culture Pack introduces four new playable factions to Total War: ROME II. The Kingdoms of Kush, Saba and Nabatea fall under the African/Arabian subculture, while the Masaesyli are of Numidian origin.
    Total War Rome 2 makes a great way to visualize this imaginary match up of dangerous factions of ancient times. Total War Rome 2 offers players the chance to pit ancient empires in combat against each other in epic battles. Enjoy!

    I have seen tons of people mad at this DLC and a lot who are excited. Feel free to state opinions but please don't belittle those you don't agree with.
    Would I buy this DLC? Yes. I buy all TW DLC because I always just want to try it out. So I show this in order for you to make a decision. You don't have to be like me :)
    I think CA is making these DLC for two reasons:
    1) Rome 2 is still very popular
    2) People did some major whining that Warhammer fantasy took over and there was not enough historical content. So CA started churning it out.
    Just my thoughts. Units were cool and fun to play. Still wish they would fix AI and some bugs.

    • @ReginaldPugginton
      @ReginaldPugginton 6 років тому +7

      I will buy it but only because I love these factions. Otherwise I think it's a pretty stupid move by CA.. they could have at least made it cheaper since rome 2 has been out for so long..

      Reginald Pugginton yea that makes sense. Match the fact that the game probably isn't full price these days. I hope at least.

      I've bought it already because:
      1. I want to keep up to date with the game for the stuff I'm currently creating for it.
      2. While having its flaws (don't all Total War games have them?), I love the game and will support any endeavor to help encourage its continued support.
      3. One of the more unique culture packs for Rome II thus far, and I'm curious to see what they've done with them.
      4. It looks and feels a lot like the "Empires of Sand" DLC for Attila, and I thought that was a great DLC.
      I do kind of sympathise a bit with people who say that this isn't - on its own - much value for what its currently worth though (i.e. these factions were overhauled already through mods etc). It'd be great if CA focused a culture pack around a mini-campaign (including a few historical characters and narrative events) or something extra like that in the future to lend more value to the culture pack they're buying. They did it with previous DLC and I remember them being more well-received upon announcement (e.g. Caesar in Gaul with Celts, Hannibal at the Gates with Iberians).

      If you study Roman history or African history, it most certainly does. I wish people would stop thinking that African empires are some forgotten thing in our modern era. If you study the subject they’re very much talked about.
      Their as talked about in general curriculum as much as, for example, the Bosporan Kingdom or Epirus. That is to say VERY LITTLE. It’s not the job of the general population to learn of every outlier kingdom in ancient history unless they want to do so.

    This DLC was actually really fun. I hope they add more interesting factions like Kush. The archers are extremely powerful, i would argue possibly better than most of the eastern faction archers. He infantry is definitely not the best and loses to units such as high later Roman infantry and oathsworn, but they are not weak either and the archers and unique calcary make up for it. The infantry really are designed to hold the line while archers unleash hell.

    As someone who has watched your channel since the Rome II days, I'm excited for you to cover this new DLC. I've seen a lot of negativity, but honestly, I think this DLC is a great thing. It gives Historical fans something to play, fleshes out the factions which were lacking, and comes with a huge (free) quality of life update with stuff like Guard Mode.

    Armoured Shotel are OP. They bite like falx units and last in melee like a legionary. Add to this their archers which are among the best in the game, some decent pikes, chariots, and elephants, and they're a powerhouse.

    Personally played Kush in Legendary I could say with a lot of experience backing this (considering you're all familiar with how the game is played) Kush faction is somewhat a new dynamic to the field.
    Bonuses are not limited to the dessert attrition immunity. Their units are really great, like really great. Had a much interesting time using archers that literally darkened the skies lol, generals come with pretty awesome stats too at a later rate. All in all good DLC faction ignore all those who tell you they're not lol they are superbly awesome.

    Hey Heir,
    the Shotel Warriors are even better than you think! You forgot to use their shieldwall-abbility, so I think they would have beaten the veteran legionaries. Exactly the combination of a massive charge bonus plus the shieldwall was the thing that made mid-tier barbarian swords overpowered. And by the way the stats of the Armoured Shotel Warriors are on Oathsworn-Level! With the mix of this super strong melee infantry, good archers, good spear support, decent cav and chariots/elephants Nubia (kingdom of kush is what is called Nubia later) will be a veeeery potent faction on my impression.

    I’m looking for a faction to potentially overthrow Egypt and take its place as a dominant empire in Africa. Which faction would be best for that play through? I’d like to role play that you know I’m trying to overthrow the Hellenic rule that took over Egypt and restore that regions roots. I was originally wanting to do an Egyptian play through but it was just to Hellenic for my liking. Even with a ton of mods trying to address that. I’m not mad it, it’s historically accurate but I just was surprised to see a huge lack of African native units. Not only am I fascinated by Ancient Rome but I’m fascinated by ancient Egypt, and it’s rival empires to the east. I really read about David and Goliath recently and it got me interested in that geographic area and time period. So I thought screw it I have every dlc 4 of them, I was waiting till next month to get the rest but screw it I’m getting the desert kingdoms culture pack tomorrow. Simply because I want to try out new factions other than Rome.

    I honestly think it is crazy with how much CA has going on with Total War (TW Arena, Thrones of Britannia, Three Kingdoms, and Warhammer) that they have a team putting out Rome II DLC. I just hope they don't over saturate the series going forward, because the release slate is insane right now.

    • @zonda2220
      @zonda2220 6 років тому

      well from memory ToB and the Rome II DLC were being made as a separate smaller team and therefore probably aren't as fleshed out, hence the reused animations and models.
      Looking forward to Three Kingdoms. Hopefully they're able to make the unit roster more interesting than the ones in Shogun II where every faction has the exact same units with just slight buffs based off "specialty"

    I purposely avoided using female generals simply because the female character models are kinda fucky looking. Also I noticed the notes on these civilizations seemed to be pandering with particular references to the "amazing Progressive Gender Equality" type shit. This is Total WAR, I don't give two flying fucks OR shits about their Gender equality. I care about whether their troop trees are interesting and that they aren't a weak ass faction. That is ALL.
    That said I 'am also really liking the random events like the Nile stuff, and the lost caravans. I hope that is a new thing for all the factions. So far I've only played The Kush, I honestly can't wait to use those guys in the lion skins they look badass!

      Problem i'd see with that would be finding things to add, I hear there's not that many actual races left that aren't added so i'm a bit worried the 3rd game won't actually be that good. Some people have been theorizing that they may even end up splitting Chaos into 4 factions based off their gods, which could be cool, but result in more bland factions.
      The things i hope they'd do for TW:W3 would be mostly better maps, modes and mechanics. The most exciting thing I could imagine being announced would be an Avatar Conquest mode, since it'd just fit Warhammer even better than it would fit Shogun II as it's filled with actual legendary and magical items that they can probably have you make choices for.

    They forgot to give Kush the Kushite Shieldwomen unit that were already included in the Egyptian roster after the Daughters of Mars DLC.
    On a side note, I am interested if any of these factions are available to play as in the Empire Divided Campaign. Kush and Saba were still alive during this period although it would make more sense to have Aksum and Himyar playable in this timeline (as they were emerging and soon to become powerful factions in this time frame) while Kush should be playable in the Imperator Augustus campaign since this is the period when they were the most active and strong (they raided Egypt and they battled with Rome). Additionally, the Masaesyli and/or Massylii are a must have faction in the Hannibal at the Gates campaign because they played an important role in the Punic Wars.

    My problem is the quality of this DLC, and the pricing when it's for an almost 5 year old game. You'd think that they learned their lesson, but here we are another "culture" pack and its main feature is what, woman can be generals?
    And yeah, it will break a mod that already gives me those factions and are probably way more fleshed out in the mod. The DEI team will fix it withing the week, because they're cool like that, but still.

    Okay now CA needs to fix some older factions. Getae need a armored falx unit, Cimmeria need an armored lancer unit, Iceni and Massilia need an archer unit each, Carthage needs SOMETHING (damn for real man), Colchis and Massilia need Pikemen, Sparta needs swordsmen, Pergamum needs Thorax Swords, Ardeia need some skirmishers and skirmisher cav and a medium melee cav unit, all Steppe factions need a half decent spear unit and axe unit, and then the game should balance out. This way mods arent needed to keep everything balanced. And these extra units should all be FLC.

    love rome 2, still play it, over 1000 hours, will not be buying it just feels scummy to grab for more money here and break all of the mods for the people who genuinely wanted to stick to the game this long. we were still playing whilst you moved on and now our game is being broken to bring you back for a couple of weeks. its not going to ruin my life or anything i just would prefer this to not exist, or be free at this late stage of the games lifespan.

      but the DLC goes to help fund new productions. It's a money grab, but that's what business is in general. With inflation and the devaluing of money and many set prices in this particular industry they have to compensate somehow. I'll be supporting it and I look forward to it. That said I understand where you as a consumer are coming from. But look everywhere now. When you get food out it's the same prices or more and the portions are smaller and smaller. People working at McDonalds are demanding $15 an hour now. McDonalds is is talking about either replacing them with machines or getting rid of the dollar menu for the $3 menu. I mean that's the way it is now.
      The problem finds it's roots in the greedy CO's. I doubt the developers will see much profit in the DLC. Sega is the one getting most of the money from these things. We gotta be understanding of these teams that make our games. They spend more time in the studios making our game than with their families. Some game developers have documented missing out on the birth of their children and missing 3-4 Christmas' in a row (Ubisoft to be exact). It's a high demand job and I don't mind supporting the employees that bend over backwards to try to please both their bosses and their fans while trying to have some semblance of a family life.

    I like the fact that this DLC, in addition to the factions added, adds female leaders aside from Zenobia and allows you to recruit female generals. For some cultures this makes some sense. It also seems that they are adding some of the unique buildings and special ability type things to more factions, just like they did with empires of sand for Attila. My only complaint is that Rome 2 is getting more support than Attila. I know the reason is because Attila isn't as popular on the multiplayer front, but I feel like it's stupid to stop supporting a game because you never fixed the multiplayer balance (Germanic Cav spam, I'm looking at you), but then support an older game. And especially because the main changes from these last two Rome 2 DLCs, the politics revamp and female leaders, would be really good additions to Attila. I'd rather lead the Tanukhids as Mavia instead of that random guy they have in charge.

    Armoured shotel warrior is too OP. 50weapon damage(20 of it is armour-piercing) makes other single hand weapon, even elite Celt sword, like a joke. 95 armour makes armoured shotel warrior perfect in both attack and defend. What’s more, they are cheaper(and stronger) than Praetorian guard and othasworn.

      I think these factions are more than just eastern factions. From what i have seen, it adds in totally new buildings, at least for the Kushites and Saba. These factions are diverse unlike Ceaser in Gual or Black sea colonies, this DLC actually adds in exotic factions that are not a mirrors of any other faction like Boii and Averni or Pergamon and Athens.

  • @ZergleJerk
    @ZergleJerk 6 років тому

    I bought Desert Kingdoms in Attila and I was sort of let down. They were fun-ish for a few campaigns. But they got boring, quick.
    Attila was a better game than Rome 2. I just don't care to buy a worse version of a DLC I already own. They will have less unique mechanics. The game gives you less fulfillment when you pick a faction in the first place.
    So...eh...if they totally rework Rome 2. Maybe. But playing Desert Kingdoms would still be at the bottom of my list. Reworked Egypt vs. Obscure Middle Easterners is an easy choice to make.

      Ricardo Soto Rome sent expeditions to try to conquer Nubia (what is being called Kush here) in actual history. None of them succeeded and eventually the Romans decided to trade instead of fight. The Numidians also gave Rome a run for their money for a good two centuries of on and off warfare before being conquered. So, it's more plausible than most people tend to think.

    I beg to differ, things like this DLC release are the kind of BS that you cant simply overlook or "play it cool, if you disagree let other people enjoy it". When a greedy ass game publisher/developer does this and profit from the sales it means they are gonna keep doing. You are a total war youtuber, of course you would check it and play it. But i think you should've being more responsible and bash the shit out of CA for this (just be politically correct and at least say something like "this wasmt CA brightest idea"). Its a SUPER outdated game, it is merely a FACTION CULTURAL PACK, they are charging as much as the DLC from the new games. I think this is the same as totalbiscuit policy of "guys, dont preorder". When a bunch of people do it CA gets away with this kind of abuse, and it makes it worse for ALL the player that buy their games.

    I think it’s a bit odd how after black panther this comes out, also, why can’t it be a freeLC? WH is doing quite well, there’s also the fact that one of the features was women in politics, I don’t care for the politics in Rome 2, it’s completely shit as is, it’s just...to me there seemed to be an overhanging, I dunno how to describe it...kinda like the whole “muh diversity” people, to me personally these factions are nothing more than a stepping stone for conquering other kingdoms, empires and all that.
    I really don’t see the need for it when they can focus more on more interesting stuff, oh and let me clarify, I don’t mind diversity, in case someone was gonna cause me of being a racist or sexist and if you do anyways? Shove those words where the sun don’t shine please, and if your ordering why the fuck I put this here, with how things are nowadays you gotta do it, as much of a pain in the arse as it is.

      That black panther/diversity correlation argument is pretty ridiculous. The desert kingdoms are the one culture group that weren't playable and now CA made it to where they are. This isn't politically motivated at all.

    • @quimble2177
      @quimble2177 6 років тому +1

      Spooky for ya I very much disagree, well maybe the whole black panther thing is a coincidence but you can’t blame me for being Skeptical about it, but there’s also the key feature of “women appear more in politics” whys that important? Now this is a guess but I’d say most Total War players couldn’t give a single fuck about Rome twos politics, i mean if that’s how the tribe was then fairs, but why is it a key feature? Will it affect politics in a big way? Or will she be like all the other politicians and be there and useful as generals? WHY ARE THEY A KEY FEATURE is my point.

    • @nodosa994
      @nodosa994 6 років тому +17

      I agree with Spooky, the black panther argument is just silly. There is literally only one black faction, and it seems like everyone is focused on that despite the fact that 2/4 factions are Arabian. As for women playing a role in total war is just extra content. I mean, lets be honest here, women have played a role in politics of the world, some at the back seat while others at the front fighting (Mainly referring to Kushites and Scythia for this.).
      The thing i love about this DLC is the fact that it is not another shity copy culture fact such as Pergamon and Athens, and/or Averni and Boii.

    • @trinityassassinz9195
      @trinityassassinz9195 6 років тому +9

      The fact that you brought this up at all is strange and makes you come off like one of those salty alt right people. Seriously though who tf cares? Its more content for a 5 year old game (even though I feel like these factions should have been in the game a long time ago) so why does it matter that some of the character models have darker complexions?
