@@Xick This iteration of Nightmare had the best moveset out of all the SC games I've played, and by a wide margin. Siegfried was okay in 3, but the magic was lost.
We need to appreciate the time and effort it took Nightmare in full-clad armour, carrying a sword bigger than his body, to climb up that rock and pose like an absolute madman
Yeah. This intro still holds up. And now that video game intros are rarely a thing anymore, it’s safe to say this is probably one of the best video game intros of all time.
The music, introduction to the characters coming back, a story being told, fight scenes, new guest character scene. Still one of the best intros in gaming history imo.
To be fair they apparently had a small budget. 6 was basically their chance to prove to Namco that Soul Calibur was worth the trouble after the shit that was 5. Thankfully, they pulled off a pretty damn good game
Overall, I give praise to some of the roster (including their movesets, and how they look), the atmosphere, the spirit, the art direction, the music, and MAJOR props to the gameplay. It does a good job *feeling* like Soul Calibur, and does give out those Soul Calibur vibes. I’d rate it maybe a B+ But here’s what I think makes SC6 inferior to SC2 or SC3; SC2 and SC3 each had a massive array of things to do, there were lots of different modes to play, it was fun unlocking stuff, it was fun experimenting with the different weapons, and they just overall had more depth. That’s my main issue with the new one, there’s simply not enough modes or content if you will (which equates to having a lower replay value. If SC6 had more content, I’d be playing it a lot more often).
Actually 6 has an intro. But its story and its not the quality of this great introduction. Its not that they are lazy but Bamco has tried several times to kill off Soulcalibur in favor of Tekken so for SC5 and 6 both have received lower budgets. This is why I keep telling people to support Soulcalibur 6 otherwise Bamco gets what they want. They don't see the value of both fighting games earning them bucks.
@@haydenbennett3547 I disagree. Without an intro people aren't hooked with an awesome presentation. Sure SC6 has a lot of trailers and gameplay footage but it was the intros of the old that intrigued us into this world and its characters. It would help SC6 pick up a little more with a good intro like how Souledge, SC2, SC3, and SC4 had them.
I first played this game 16 years ago and I’ve only just realised that Necrid didn’t drop that Soul Edge shard into his hand. He dropped a DECAPITATED HEAD HOW DID I MISS THAT? Also, goddamn I love this intro so so much this game is a video game masterpiece.
I love the overall premise of this game. After the events of the first game (at the end of the first game, Nightmare and Soul Edge got defeated by Kilik and Xianghua. They were sucked into Astral Chaos, Inferno’s realm. The evil energy of Inferno and the realm caused the Krita-Yuga, Xianghua’s sword, to reveal itself as Soul Calibur. Inferno was defeated but Xianghua had to leave Soul Calibur behind to save Kilik), Soul Edge got severely damaged and it’s shards were spread across the world. For a little bit, Siegfried reclaimed his own mind, but despite his best efforts to escape the manipulation of Soul Edge, the evil sword took over his body in his sleep. Over time, Soul Edge rebuilt itself enough to the point of where Siegfried got fully possessed again. He ended up taking the helm of Nightmare once more. In this game, which takes place four years after Soul Calibur 1, Nightmare (as Siegfried) tries to get more shards to strengthen the weakened Soul Edge (as shown in the ending of the intro). Everyone else in the roster has their own goals that often tie into Soul Edge, Nightmare, and it’s shards. There’s the premise of Soul Calibur 2.
@@LanthusV I think he just means when people take a video and render it in 1080p and call it HD like when UA-cam first added HD. People did it just for the views
The chord progression and accelerando/crescendo which comes to a boil when Mitsurugi cut that geezer's gun in half, gave me chills, so f*ckin' sick! Mitsurugi; proving that the era of the Samurai, isn't over just yet. This intro is so frickin' good. Also, Nightmare from SCII has the best Nightmare character design in the entire series in my opinion, absolutely terrifying looking figure. Thank you for posting this.
Same. I also wanted to perform that move but I don't think it's in the command list lol. I have a theory that this move is a critical edge move or at least a precursor to it although it's impossible in regular gameplay in SC 2. The reason it wasn't included might be due to hardware limitations during that time and console generation. Namco has included a similar looking move in SC 6 for Taki (like in the video below). ua-cam.com/video/BxCg08p9_Aw/v-deo.html
In terms of cinematics and epicness, this and the intro cinematic from Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess are the best opening sequences I've ever seen (and probably ever will see, with the deteriorating state of modern game "intros").
