      Awesome final part to the review. Now I see why the fight started on the shock therapy walk around comments....it definitely looks pretty good in some situations but ya, in others it could use a lot of improvement it seems. You gotta get ahold of a speed speedcat 77 and see how that does.

    • @SXSBlog

      I am not sure it was a "fight" (lol) but there are just too many people being closed minded about the machine without really riding anything else. It's awesome compared to the old cat and there's certainly good ideas embedded but we CURRENTLY just don't think it's as good as the hype.

    Thanks for taking the time to show us the positives and negatives. Coming from a racing background and being on my 6th SXS its refreshing that someone is finally telling everyone how the machines really are. I hate when the reviews are given by people that are sponsored by the manufacturer. Keep up the great work!!!!

    I'll take cushy ride and trail compliance over bottoming suspension on 20 foot jumps any day. I'm guessing that less than 1% of potential XX owners will jump their machines like that. I sure wish my Maverick Trail was even half as cushy as the XX because the rear suspension only moves more than a few inches when you hit big whoops or jump it. I think they specified super stiff springs to maintain ground clearance, which is especially important because of the long wheelbase. Needless to say I take the bumps pretty slow for that reason -- wish I could fly though them like the XX can!

  • @TurboDynamicscanada
    @TurboDynamicscanada 6 років тому +4

    You can tell the wildcat xx rear suspension is not stiff enough to handle that big jump. It does well at soaking the bumps and I believe it will be a good trail machine. For jumping I'm sure just a simple shock adjustment more spring preload and stiffening the shock adjustment is all that's needed. It bottomed out bad and any machine that bottoms out will feel harsh.
    I'm surprised to hear about that transaxle as they seem to be built strong big Input shaft big output shaft. We are building a turbo version of the wildcat xx and we will know soon how it holds up.
    One thing is for sure... Textron wanted it to be heavy duty everything is built strong on it. Doesn't meant it will translate into something durable but its beefy looking

    • @SXSBlog
      @SXSBlog  6 років тому +1

      Yeah, hopefully the transaxle and front driveshaft issue were just flukes, time will tell. For jumping we had the shocks on the stiffest settings. Unfortunately it's gonna take valving & a re-spring to really make it capable for that kinda stuff. Looking forward to seeing how your turbo build turns out!

    Nice work guys. Doing real world reviews has a way of pouring sand in the eyes of people who take the word / stats of the vendors as gospel. I have no interest in the XX - so I was only introduced to it via the "sales pitch" and "walk around" style reviews. Seeing one run next to the competition under the same conditions was eye opening. For a machine touted to be robust and durable, having 2 breakdowns during testing is unfortunate. Those shocks look like they were tuned poorly, feel bad for Sous's back and knees.

    The honest review is appreciated. That is where you guys hang your hat's. Every chance I get I Rx Textron give you a long term XX. Axles have been an issue on a few. The plunge has to be set right at level and Full droop. The car is 300 lbs heavier than XP. Nick and Nick should have been in XP for jumps. I'm good with the mass for the chassis strength. Looks like a little more right height dialed in would help. Heavier springs, perhaps. I'd like to see Shock Therapy set one up and let you test it. I'd also like to see you test it crawling and duning. For the $ I believe I can still build to what I need, cheaper or same as N/A XP and have a stronger chassis. Keep up the honest reviews.

      SXSBlog.com Burn a bridge? Textron should appreciate the review. Us consumers do. Letting some Media people (A few with admittedly zero experience) do a test is one thing. Hammering it to a level some will and some won't take it, should help Textron assess their efforts. They don't want mad/disappointed customers. I'm still trying to get a test drive in Northern California, which I believe will help sales. They need to demo at Glamis too, with and without paddles. Hope they are listening.

    I've watched this 3 times now.. Initially had such high hopes for the xx. I was at the dealer ready to purchase. After looking closer I just wasn't confident in the build quality. Absolutely loved the can-am x3 but couldn't get over the low riding position and squeaky shocks. Razr turbo was a perfect fit but the local polaris dealer sucks, they act like a snooty Harley dealership. Polaris friends had nothing good to say about the service dept.
    I ended up purchasing a new 2017 yxz, the price was 4-5k less than the competitor machines. I figured I could put the extra savings into suspension and a few performance mods to somewhat compare to the X3 & turbo razr.
    Suspension still falls short, but fun factor & overall build quality outweighs.

The 14 1k had belt over heating the first turbos had some flaws and they did a good job figuring out what works so if they do exactly what you said and listen to the feed back they could make a hell of a machine with what they have started with.

  • @toddgrant6103

    Appreciate your candid opinion! Almost kept me from buying one till I watched what shock Therapy had to say about its durability and real world qualities! Then I went to my dealer and asked to try one, I bought it shortly there after. It does lack rebound dampening and the springs in the rear along with compression are a bit soft but on trails where the RZR beats U to death the XX floats like a hovercraft. My suspension will be tuned by Shock Therapy and not for free, but In my opinion the quality of the build seems far superior to any other SXS. They all have issues especially in the first release no matter what brand u buy. My best friend is service manager at a Polaris dealer and he constantly tells me horror stories of steering racks, front ends, differentials, clutches, ball joints, tie rods and so many other issues that I would be afraid to buy Polaris. Not to mention fires! In the end, we all have different needs, sadly every other review of this product is marred by your comments to justify your own opinion of your experiences with XX. I think your review was legit based on what u experienced, but professionalism sometimes dictates standing by what U have experienced and not commenting on what others have experienced as U have with Shock Therapy's review and more recently Dirt Trax review. In order to be professional it is necessary to act professional. I love watching the Blog but recently your defensive comments have caused controversy that is unnecessary!

    • @SXSBlog
      @SXSBlog  5 років тому

      lol. An opposing comment on a video review lecturing about leaving opposing comments on video reviews... See it's fun calling out things you don't agree with right!? Opinions vary and everybody wants to justify their own, of course, but when watching these reviews sometimes you have to consider who has something to lose and who doesn't... We were gonna buy an XX until we spent time with one and found that it didn't stack up with machines like the X3 & Turbo S when you're riding hard, which is what we do. When they (hopefully) release a competitor with more power / travel / width we'll be first in line.

    • @toddgrant6103
      @toddgrant6103 5 років тому +1

      @@SXSBlog Nick, the difference here is that I am not the one who did a review on a SXS and nobody looks at me like I'm a media figure. I readily admit that the XX is not perfect, nor is any other SXS. I merely stated that as an internet entity with a following, certain actions are scrutinized more readily than those of the people who choose to reply to videos and reviews. We all have opinions and we are all entitled to voice them, you however have made it a point to bash the XX at every opportunity when someone else has something positive to say. I watch the Blog regularly and for the most part enjoy the antics, but as reviewers and testers with a following you are on a different level of accountability. Yes U can say what U like or dislike about any machine during the Blog and that is why we watch, but I feel the your comments in other reviews is more of a means to justify your own opinion of a product. You can do as U want as we all can, but the Blog is what it is because people see a certain degree of professionalism

    • @SXSBlog
      @SXSBlog  5 років тому

      This is Doug, just for the record. The idea that we go around bashing the XX at every opportunity is an absolute fallacy. You can watch the review series over again and see that we said a lot more positive than negative. For whatever reason the community surrounding this machine is just super sensitive.

      @toddgrant6103 5 років тому

      SXSBlog.com Wow I figured U were way to busy tweaking to post comments! U may be right about the sensitivity level of XX owners, simply because it is the underdog and has been so long awaited as the Rig that Robby built. My point though may be lost in translation, your review was pretty accurate in each of 3 segments but that was the Blogs interpretation of how it performed. At least 2 other media outlets had differing opinions and never posted on your review. Opinions are like asses, we all have one and we will usually voice our own as u did. But I think commenting on other reviews is not the route the Blog should be taking as U have already voiced your oppinion in your

  • @toddgrant6103
    @toddgrant6103 5 років тому +1

    Great review guys! But I am puzzled! Before the jump everyone in your crew was raving about its handling and ride quality to the point where I had it in my mind to buy one. Then after the jump it turned to shit. It did have mechanical issues but lets not forget the steering rack failure in the X3 when it came out and the RZR 1000 issues, well enough said, ride it, fix it, ride it, fix it again then it catches fire. I actually didn't buy one [XX] because of your review. Then I saw the Shock therapy break down of the XX and was left scratching my head. They are the premier suspension builders and actually pre ran Baja 2 times in XX. They raved about the quality of the car even though they had some teething issues, and went on to say that it was far superior to any other normally aspirated car and could be perfected for the least amount of money. They also stated that any other SXS that ran the Baja 500 2x would be in dire need of repair where XX was still as tight as new. My question is how U could be so excited before the jump and to unimpressed after a jump? I love your reviews but after watching both of Shock Therapy's unboxing and testing of XX I was forced to go see my dealer who lent me an XX for a few days. I am an XX owner now, they are all junk just different degrees but this thing is built as its weight indicates. Glad I watched both reviews from SXS blog and Shock Therapist, but in the end the best review is to drive it yourself and base your decision on how it feels in the environment U ride in!

    • @SXSBlog
      @SXSBlog  5 років тому

      Absolutely the best to ride it yourself and decide! Everyone has their issues but we never personally had major failures so soon with other models like we did the XX, and that's what we base our reviews on, our own experiences, not others. We liked the XX a lot until we started really pushing it hard.

    I thought this was a good honest review. It appears to me the XX needs some refinement and it could be a great machine. If it shed some weight (that would help the suspension and performance) and possibly some clutching and suspension fine tuning and it would have been tough to beat for the NA machines. My biggest concern is the reliability issues. I am a long time Arctic Cat fan (mostly snowmobiles) and like the fellows in the video had high hopes. The high expectations probably also played a roll in being somewhat disappointed. For the price on this machine I would expect more. Hopefully Textron will address some of the issues and refine it into what in my observation is a machine that has a different skill set/niche then the other SxS machines.

    I really appreciate this review, thank you for your hard work and money invested into this testing. I have dreamed of doing this type of testing, with my entourage, for 4x4 quads. Real world riding has a way of cutting through the marketing jargon, lol.
    I would love to see the RS1 tested in the future and maybe the ACE 900. Those would be interesting. Then go back to the beginning and take a Rzr 800 for a test, would be interesting to see how much has changed when demonstrated in the real world.
    Another idea, test the base model of each SxS and show the improvements shocks, more width, more power, etc can do to each test: drag racing, trail riding, cornering, jumping, etc.

I’ve noticed that myself. I like to jump stuff & haven’t had any trouble yet but I also haven’t had an open area to jump it 40-50ft to flat either lol. @jeffhartman7545 6 років тому +2

      They said in the video that they have adjusted the rear to max stiffness. I'm not sure if they went as far as to adjust the ride height any but regardless...that would not keep the chassis from contacting the ground....larger tires would help that...but then would take away from the power it's already lacking. So I'm assuming they simply turned in the compression adjustments to max stiffness. Re-valving the shocks would certainly help overall. I love a lot of the race inspired construction details...just needs a little tweaking and hopefully Textron will listen to the input! Great review guys....

    At 14:30 while you guys are doing the jumps and whoops in both the RZR and XX, you can clearly see the RZR soaks up the bumps better and you can see threw the whoops the RZR's tires keep really good contact with the ground and the XX tires are bounced off the ground and loose way to much ground contact.

    Great review guys! From everything I've seen I think your comments were spot on. I was honestly underwhelmed when I saw the XX for the first time just sitting; to me, it simply didn't even look like it would be a contender in today's market and that's obviously been proven by your testing and review. Like you guys said, if it came out 5 years ago it might have really been something but with the XPTurbo's, Turbo S's, and X3's that are running the market today the XX isn't even worth looking at; not at the price point at least. I think I'd go back to my Rzr XP900 before buying an XX.
    I cringed watching Sous land that jump in the XX it hit so hard.

    Its almost like it tries to look the part of sport utv, but with a utility utv handling. Rev's too high imo, and its not that stylish. Front end is ok, but the rear is long and ugly. It did ok in the categories, but not my cup of tea. Good reviews, thanks for taking the time to show it off, and hope Sous gets a back rub or something cause that jump looked rough haha.

    • @ROTAXD
      @ROTAXD 6 років тому +1

      Jesse D I'm not sure I'd call it's handling quite like that of a utility machine. I cannot see a ranger or a gator handling nearly that well. Maybe more along the lines of a General 1000 that's billed as a crossover.

      @ROTAXD 6 років тому

      Jesse D the clunks are a staple of textron/cat ownership from what I've seen lol. If they can get the dhock valving dialed, the weight may actually serve to make the thing more comfortable/predictable for some riders. I'll give you this, with the current shock setup, it looks like there's a lot to be desired. It will be interesting to see what happens when some of the aftermarket guys start spending some time dialing shocks in for it. (If somebody comes up with an actermarket Dynamix type of kit for it...it could actually be a monster).

    I like your review, but imo the XX it’s a great unit, even better than Rzrxp1k, of course it’s not comparable with the big boys you ride now, but for the price tag it’s a nice unit. I ride in baja and open desert, of course the best machines for that kind of terrain are the X3 XRS and the TurboS, but for those who don’t want to spend a lot of money and have an excel te suspensión design the XX it’s a great considerable option.

    Nice to see an unbiased review.seems like textron had better seriously think about going to a true multi rate spring in the back along with some revalving. Either that or head back to the drawing board with the entire rear suspension geometry.

    Good job with the testing...Biggest thing I noticed was the lack of attention by CAT in the area of exhaust tuning, that 3cyl genesis should sound like a crotch rocket as it does in the SR viper and Nytro sleds. Other than the jump, all of you guys seemed very impressed with the machine. The drag races showed what was expected. The XX was right there with the NA machines & couldn't keep up with the turbo machines. Can't fault it for that. Ripping the trails & whoops, judging by your physical reactions & comments, you guys were all very impressed with the machine. Then at the end I was surprised at such a negative review. Wondering what happened there? Was it because Textron didn't get back with you about getting a machine from them? Either way, I've always been a fan, love the riding videos, love the wrenching videos & appreciate your attempts to make all testing as fair as possible. Keep up the good work.

      The fact that there were multiple major mechanical failures played a big part (axle, front diff, transaxle). We had to ask a friend to drive from Canada to finish our review because the first 2 demo units broke down. There's potential here no doubt. Maybe we just got unlucky? Would need more time in one to prove dependability though.

    Good review this is exactly why I watch, I want to know what it really is, not a fluffed up review with the occasional race car driver mentioned to make it out to be a monster. It looks odd and seems like it was rushed out to the market. After seeing the suspension at work, my back hurts watching that hit. I’m sure they will get it worked out but in the next few days I’m getting a new machine and I can say that one isn’t even in the running Really think it would have been a good idea to come out with a turbo model as well. If they want to compete with what’s out there now.
    That extra 15 hp is lost somewhere because it sure didn’t race like it had 10% more power then a 1k Thanks for the real truth about what it is and what it isn’t

      The chassis and stock cage appear very stout compared to others. Front and rear clips are interchangeable if crashed, so that's a plus. Just part of the good with the bad. Definitely not a light weight dune ripper but perhaps a good long term investment for some.

      Erik Jeffery Mike Desilets hopefully Textron does what arctic did not do in the past and listens to both it's customers as well as the haters and uses their feedback to guide them when it comes to improvements. If they do, they'll stand a chance, if not, maybe they'd better stick to building aircraft.

    • @erikjeffery1072
      @erikjeffery1072 6 років тому

      The cage looks decent the rear end is horrible looking imo the interchangeable parts are a good idea depending on the price of those parts I know they where not easy on it and Im not to mine, but to break 2 and have a fan come in to help them finish the review isn’t what I am looking for out of a $20k machine
      Not a total loss I just think it needs a couple years to sort out the flaws.

    I thought it was a good unbiased review and I own a Wildcat X. The thing that comes to mind is why would I buy a machine that breaks down not once but twice from two separate machines. I'm not going to buy a machine if I have to use the warranty within the first month. That is a waste of trail time. I can buy a 2018 turbo rzr for roughly $18,500 that has been proven now and still be more ahead than an XX. Pretty obvious what I'm going to get next..
